The work was fast but incredibly high quality -- they matched our wall texture and blended the paint so well you genuinely can't tell where the openings used to be, and the siding repairs look seamless. They even went above and beyond, tackling an extra spot we hadn't asked about. Great communication throughout, and genuinely friendly, kind people who take pride in their work. I'll keep this as brief as possible and stick to the facts. Macadam installed new carpet for us. It…read morewasn't a small job: we paid around $13k for it. We worked with Angel in the office, Sean in the field, and Jessica ran the carpet crew that performed the install. The morning of the install, Sean informed us they couldn't find the carpet. They lost the carpet! We had the house all boxed up, our dog and kids were away for the day, and we even had professional movers over to help disassemble and move a large entertainment center. Macadam eventually found our carpet, but two weeks had passed by the time it was able to get installed. This was not the only issue we had with Macadam. First, the crew took pictures of themselves pretending to play my son's guitar (and other similar pictures with our things). Jessica said they take pictures like that sometimes for their professional social media accounts. It made me very uncomfortable. Second, they damaged and repaired our bedroom door and never told us. The repair work is highly visible (at least it's low on the door). Third, there are visible seams in the carpet. Fourth, when they attempted to repair the seams, they asked if they could cut carpet from another part of the house to use in the repair. We said no. They ignored our wishes and cut carpet from several rooms when we weren't around. We know this because (a) they left carpet scraps from the cutting and (b) the area where the carpet meets the wall looks worse than before. Fifth, the carpet they cut from was in rooms with closed doors, including a bedroom and walk-in closet with laundry and pets. They entered closed off rooms without asking and performed work we said not to do. Sixth, even after the repair, there are still visible seams in the carpet. Seventh, we let Angel know about all these issues and Macadam offered what we consider to be an inappropriately small reduction to our bill (including a small cash discount and not charging us for moving furniture). FWIW, our interior designer, who has a lot of experience working on projects like this, thought a 50% reduction in the total bill was appropriate just based on the hassle caused by the lost carpet (ripple effect with other projects we had going on). She didn't know about any of the other issues when she made that statement. Given that the quality of the work was far below our expectations, the incompetence around losing the carpet, directly ignoring our wishes w/r/t cutting the carpet, and the invasion of privacy from entering closed rooms and taking pictures with our belongings, we will not use Macadam for a carpet project again. Moreover, I wouldn't let anyone from that crew back in my house for any reason. Two stars because even though this project fell far below our expectations, it's still nice carpet.

However, Union Floor Company completely revived our floors to their original 1920s glory. Union Floor Company is pretty much a two-man show, with one person doing all of the onsite work. It took about one week to complete the job, from sanding to staining to letting things dry out and it was totally worth the wait. some of the best money we've ever spent to have such an amazing transformation. We went with water-based stain/clear coat for that modern look (photo attached of before/after).

I will never use or recommend it again…read more Gordon, the current "manager", initially presented a friendly and compliant attitude which was shockingly different from the angry and inappropriate employee that was sent to do the work. Rude Charles arrived mad. He heaved continual sighs and was visceral and loud. He complained. He said that he and his partner were the only two in the "shop" and they couldn't find good help. He explained nothing about the process and his partner did not talk unless allowed. Any questions were met with a strange defiance and barking attitude. A moisture check of the light oak hardwoods and provision for several "custom" stain selections was the agreement in contracting with Union Floor Company. No moisture test of the water-damaged area was performed and Union Floor was hurried, angry and totally under-prepared with proper stain selections. An additional $1250 was charged for their simple mix which was far less satisfactory than it's more mellow-appearing predecessor. The Swedish finish coat contained drips, a 3x10 inch skipped area, overlaps, pooling and debris. These were repaired by Charles, 3 phone inquiries and 8 days later. He picked out debris with his fingernail, buffed overlaps, and said to wait 90 days for pooled areas to blend and cure. He said that Union Flooring used to have a 4-page sheet explaining their work process but they no longer provided it. The balance-due invoice arrived promptly, prior to any repair, and after Gordon had made final review of the finished floors. Posted for a client.

I has asked for a quote for the entire property, including all 4 private fenced-in areas. They replied with a quote of around $400, so I accepted and paid the fee. Then, they upsold me on the added weed-killer treatment, so I paid more for that. Then I was advised they had to come out a few days before the yard work to do the treatment, so I agreed. They came out and sprayed for weeds, but missed several spots and completely missed the private areas, however, I did not even realize they only did the common area until later. Additionally, they sprayed my neighbor's very beautiful ground cover in the parking strips in their driveway and killed the entire large patch of plants! Later that week, they came to finish the yardwork, and much to my dismay, when I returned home, they had missed the private areas. Also, I could not tell any difference in the common area from before they had allegedly done the work. Also, to my confusion, they had not touched the private areas! The yard people we paid much less money we had before did the entire property, and I mean they were out there for 5 straight hours, raking up all pine needles and hauling them away and really making the place sparkle. I looked at my RING Camera and watched them. These guys were out there for less than one hour. Didn't rake up anything and missed many weeds all over the ground! I'm not even sure what they actually did, since everything looked the same. I contacted the company and they were a little dismissive about it all. I advised them that my quote request was not just for the common area, but for the entire property, and I even showed them in the original email request. The only reply was basically, "oops, sorry", and a new quote for around $1200!!! I also informed them they killed all of my neighbor's ground cover plants, they didn't seem to care much about that, either. Additionally, we discussed the lack of actual effort put forth by the work crew, and again, just "sorry". I was going to remain silent and just chalk it up to having made a VERY BAD decision by hiring this company and apologize to my neighbors, profusely. However, just the other day, I received a bill from them after months of silence. So, I am here to warn anyone reading. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!

In 2024 Becker Custom Construction completed 2 projects for us: a major 10' by 10' addition for an accessible bathroom for our residence; and a smaller project to rebuild an elevated deck and staircase for a rental. The quality of the work was excellent, and for the few times when there was a misunderstanding, they addressed the problem quickly and thoroughly. We were particularly impressed with the subcontractors on their team. Tim and John were great communicators, which is especially important for a large project. They worked hard to help us think through design issues and to make the addition blend with the existing house. If another project comes up, we hope they are available to participate. read more

The owner Tim Becker was great. I called him and explained my problem, he said he could come over the next morning at 8 am and get started. He arrived on time and went to work. By the end of the day, he had removed the old vanity, moved an outlet, repaired the sheet rock and cleaned up hauling out all the old debris. The next day he arrived with a helper and by that afternoon the job was complete. He emailed me a bill, including showing two receipts for items he purchased. We found the price to be fair and reasonable. Anton connected us with a collaborative designer with whom he works closely (Bonnie Johnson, Spruce & Steel Design). Bonnie added a synergistic fit with Anton, providing him with critical detailed drawings and managed us (the clients) relative to design choices such as tile, lighting, hardware fixtures, etc. What stood out as exceptional was the quality of the crew and the work each of them did. We had two back to back very small bathrooms. We also had a hallway that went all the way through the interior of the house - from the front door to the master bathroom. Lots of wasted space. We asked Michael from Higgins Home Construction to close off the hallway where one of the bathroom doors was. This created space to open up the master bath, allowing a larger and upgraded shower to replace the outdated tiny shower. This also allowed us to put in a utility sink in the laundry room. My husband and I are very happy with the work that Higgins Home Construction did for us. Communication with Michael was easy with prompt replies to questions and requests. His team of plumbers, electrician, drywall, painters and others were all excellent. After each day's work, the work areas were left tidy and ready for the next work day. We ended up hiring this company again when because of water leakage from the outside, the carpet in a downstairs bedroom became water logged. During repair, it was discovered that the wall was just wood, no insulation or drywall. This was taken care of, the outdoor water leakage was repaired, and the carpet did not have to be replaced. We will definitely contract with Higgins Home Construction for future home improvement projects.
