Darrell, the owner, and his worker Nate were fantastic from start to finish. We originally noticed a bump in the bathroom floor that turned out to be a moisture issue. A mitigation company came in to remove the damaged flooring and toilet and dry everything out. After that, we started collecting quotes from contractors--and chose Darrell because he was by far the most straightforward and transparent. He took the time to explain everything clearly, gave us a fair quote, and didn't sugarcoat anything. Once we agreed to move forward, Darrell even handled communication with our insurance company and got the project covered. That alone was a huge help. The work itself turned out great. Darrell and Nate installed new subflooring, laminate that we picked out, and new baseboards. After the job was done, we did notice a couple of minor issues--one with the baseboard seal and another with the threshold transition that my wife wasn't happy with. Darrell came back out promptly and made sure both were addressed to our satisfaction. I've included some photos of the bathroom after mitigation and the finished result--the difference speaks for itself. Great company, easy to work with, and reliable. We're already considering another bathroom remodel, and we'll absolutely be going with Darrell again.

That and our comfort with Darrell made our choice easy. We made some big changes to our second story deck, so it took some time for a structural engineer to get plans in place but, the final product was well worth the wait. Darrell and Ed worked to make sure our deck was sturdy and well built. We now have an extended deck with awning that actually comes from above the roof line. The difference is night and day and we are thrilled with our new deck!

Literally could NOT be happier with our new home siding, porch design, exterior paint, and garage…read moreroof thanks to Joseph Ketner Construction! If you're a homeowner of a 1929 fixer upper with a plethora of problems, you know it's ridiculously hard to find contractors that 1) show up on time, 2) do the work they say they're gonna do, 3) actually finish the job, 4) do the job well... like, REALLY well, and 5) be nice and a total delight to work with. JKC does ALL that AND MORE. Every step of our project was handled with extreme care, thoroughness, and craftsmanship. Every eve, every overhang, every gutter, every bit of paint and caulk was handled with precision and a level of detail that I thought could never be a reality when working with a contractor. Even when ripping off our old siding, they discovered the company that installed our windows and doors did a shoddy job, and they fixed THEIR work! When unforeseen issues came up (because of course, our house is from 1929!) they were able to quickly address and repair those items with grace and ease. We felt like we were in such great hands with experts that we could trust, that they knew what they were doing, and total masters of their craft. Bonus? They didn't leave messes, and cleaned up after themselves to the point you didn't even know they were there. Every worker on site was SO nice, informative, professional, and people you'd want to grab a beer with. In fact, we have a mentally unstable neighbor who confronted the crew, and they handled him easily and respectfully without escalating his mental health challenges. In short, we've hired them twice now, and when our home's roof needs to be replaced, there's no one else I'll be calling, or will be gathering quotes from. There's no point. They're the best, hands down, and we get compliments ALL the time from neighbors and people walking by asking about who did our home's exterior. My only complaint is that they don't do home interior design/remodeling because now I'll have to locate and find another team that won't compare to the standard that JKC has set. We're now SO spoiled. Seriously, don't bother gathering anymore quotes or researching companies that never call you back or answer your emails. You're just wasting your time if you don't hire these pros. I wouldn't recommend anyone else but them!

We contracted with Weitzer for a kitchen remodel, and everything we learned to look out for when…read moredoing our due diligence ended up being done right. Being located in SE Portland, they have experience in dealing with houses that are over 100 years old (as is ours), and Weitzer's in-house cabinet shop means that they can custom build a solution for each project. From the first day, through the finishing touches, we had a lead carpenter who was here doing most of the tasks himself or with other Weitzer employees when needed, coordinating with and directing subcontractors, and communicating with the project manager who planned the remodel and created the schedule. Communication with my wife and I, and everyone else involved in the project was first rate, and a big factor in a successful, timely remodel. After they took down the plaster on the walls and ceiling and pulled up the floor, the lead carpenter consulted with other experienced Weitzer project people to make sure everyone was in agreement on planning for what to do with the hundred year old framing that they found inside. Our peace of mind at having new wiring, plumbing, and beams, studs and joists to keep everything correctly correctly supported is a, emotionally, a huge component of this job. Based on conversations with their own employees and with subcontractors, Weitzer is a good place to work, and pays their subcontractors promptly - which is apparently not always the case in the construction world. The payoff for the customer is that the employees all seem to enjoy working together for the greater good, and skilled subcontractors are willing to be flexible with the inevitable scheduling hiccups to show up when needed and keep things moving along. Since most tasks cannot be started until a previous step is complete, Weitzer's scheduling is able to be realistic, and can be trusted. There are far more moving parts to this kind of project than I could have ever predicted myself - adjusting floor joists, rerouting wiring to fit a modern lighting plan, using the right kinds of insulation for thermal or acoustic purposes, choosing paint that will stand up to the rigors of kitchen cabinet use, laser measurement for countertops, leveling the ceiling so that crown molding in different parts of the room does not interfere with cabinet doors opening and closing, matching window and door trim to other parts of the house - Weitzer's team coped with it all, and were not fazed by any of the things that could not be known until the old walls and ceiling came down. This kind of job is not cheap - but Weitzer's bid was right in line with other design-build firms that we contacted, and in watching the project as it went along, I developed an appreciation for all the components of the budget, and how they added up to the total cost, and contributed to a successful project.
