If you need work done on your house, hire Rob. I can't sing his praises loudly enough. Two years ago, my husband and I purchased a house that is 100 years old. It is in decent shape, but we wanted to do a lot of work to turn it into our dream house. Rob has been our go-to man throughout this extensive process, and we can't imagine having done it without him. In fact, without him, I don't think it could have gotten done, or rather it would have been MUCH harder (me having to find people for each job), and slower. Rob can do everything. He has replaced every door in our house, all door knobs, hinges and other hardware, all lighting fixtures. He has updated the closets and replaced closet doors. He has replaced our front door and the entire frame. He took out and then covered over this weird door that made no sense and that I wanted to simply be a wall. We want to renovate both bathrooms, and he will do this, and I know he will complete them in a timely manor and that his work will be excellent. He will also be installing a hot tub for us. As I write this, Rob is replacing a rotten stretch of fencing in our backyard and a gardening shed that is attached to the fence. Oh, and how can I forget the most significant project he did for us? He created a custom floor to ceiling bookshelf that spans the entire wall of our living room, and it is beautiful. Rob is professional, skilled, honest, and responsive (he returns phone calls quickly!!!!), and his work is excellent. (As I said, our house is 100 years old, so it's full of irregularities, and Rob has mastered all of them to create exactly what we wanted.) Rob can do everything. His knowledge and skills are vast. On Monday we confirmed the day/time and I scheduled it in my calendars. The morning of our meeting I set up to show him needed work. Less than an hour before our meet time I noticed a message and call on my phone asking if I was still available, and I confirmed yet again. I live just down the street from Rob and I had a simple task I asked completed of caulking in the shower. Whether his work was faulty or the product was faulty I don't know, but three times it didn't work. I try not to make assumptions about people. All our conversations have been via text, so I have a full written accounting of what happened. After the last time did not work, he offered to redo it once more or provide a refund and I immediately replied back that I would accept the refund and wish him well. He was going through some family health issues so I didn't press it and I waited to hear from him. Instead of honoring my wish to move forward with the refund he offered, in writing, and I accepted in writing, he tried to schedule a time to redo it. He then says he didn't mean to offer a refund and he refuses to honor it now. He told me I should just file a complaint and "try to ruin his reputation". Just another reason why it's best not to involve neighbors in professional endeavors. I'm sad it turned out this way. * Edit after the owner decided to respond and provide more lies. One will notice in the screenshots I attached, there was never a demand of a refund. That is a lie. He offered it. Fascinatingly, when he was in the house he said how quality the construction and the flip was, but now that he is being taken to task for his lies and lack of integrity, he saying something else? It's shameful. The evidence speaks for itself. Additionally, Rob never said a single thing to me about moisture behind the walls. I will accept any evidence he can provide to the contrary. The text messages between us so nothing of the sort and there was never any conversation otherwise. I commiserate with the things he was going through with his mother, but the fact that he uses that as an excuse to lie is unconscionable. We had a great experience working with Rob. We needed structural work done underneath a leaking toilet. Since the work was underneath the floor, we weren't able to identify the full scope of work until after the floor was removed. Rob demonstrated a high level of integrity when quoting the additional work after taking out the floor. Some contractors would have taken advantage of the situation and quoted a costly change order. We were pleased that Rob was trustworthy. We also observed that he was very conscientious about his work and took the extra time to produce results with very high quality. Rob is excellent at what he does, and what he cannot he will let you know instead of "figuring it out". We hired him to install a dishwasher and replace kitchen sink. Had to cut existing cabinet to retro fit the dishwasher and he made it look like it has always belonged there. His quote was one of the lower estimates, and you get high quality ethics. He's amazing at what he does, as evidenced by the exceptional work he did in repairing our windows to full operation, figuring out our knob and tube wiring to then install 3-prong outlets throughout the house, securing our walkway railing, installing insulation and plywood under our home, and creating and installing a handrail (to code!) on the most impossible staircase imaginable. I don't usually write reviews, but the service I received from Rob was exceptional. I wanted repairs done on my deck, some cabinet work and electrical. After a couple of quotes for the deck saying that the whole deck needed to be repaired, Rob was the first one to respond to me from Yelp. He came out that day and gave me a quote. The quote was more than fair and he agreed that the deck could just be repaired, he wasn't out to sell up. I agreed to his quote and he came out a couple of days later to perform the job. Our light fixture in our kitchen gave up the ghost. We didn't know if it was the fixture, the switch or the wiring. But it had to be fixed because it's near impossible to cook in the dark. I had a small but tough job that needed doing. I have an old house and we needed a coaxial cable connection run into the center of our living room for cable TV. Our house is 110 years old, and the area we wanted the cable run into is the guts of the house, where bricks, supports, ventilation, electrical, and who knows what else all collide. Everyone we spoke to about this job turned it down, including the cable company. Rob came in and took the job almost like I'd dared him he couldn't do it. ;) He told me he thought he could, the consequences if he couldn't (a small hole in our wall that he'd cover with a panel), and that if he didn't do it he'd charge me nothing. Well, hot damn if he didn't do it, and in exactly the four hours he thought it would take. It was a real pain of a job, I was there the whole time. He threaded through a lot of very old house guts to get our cable connection where we wanted it. I suspect there are easier ways Rob could make his money than the job we gave him, but he sure earned it that day, and we're very appreciative. It was a hard job, and he pulled it off no problem. He also did very professional clean up work and left our house looking just as good as he found it (probably a little bit better). As a bonus, Rob is a pretty fun guy to work with. It's obvious he likes what he does, likes to interact with people, and certainly showed a lot of love for our home. If we ever need a contractor for any reason he'll be who I will call. I needed a contractor to move a dining room light fixture and investigate a bubble in my bathroom ceiling. Rob responded to my Yelp message within hours, was on-site to provide an estimate with days and had started work within the week. The light fixture work ended up being more complicated than we originally expected, but Rob attacked the problem with skill and determination, ultimately accomplishing exactly what I wanted. As for the bathroom ceiling, Rob was able to diagnose the problem quickly and provide me with specific instructions to pass along to the roofer. Once the roofer fixed things on his end, I had Rob come back to patch up the ceiling, since he'd done such a great job patching up the dining room. We had some electrical gremlins (lots of lights all flickering in sync) and they pretty much came to a head when our dishwasher stopped turning on. Rob was great--he was able to come over a couple days after we got in touch and he was very quickly able to diagnose and fix our dishwasher issue. I got in over my head installing a new dimmer switch and called Rob. He was able to fit me in between other jobs, and came over the same day. He works quickly and efficiently, while also not rushing the job. For the wiring, he made sure that his connections wouldn't come loose, even if it meant making a few attempts. He explained everything he was doing, answered my questions, and was pleasant to be around. (He was also very friendly to my overly-curious cat and dog). At the end of his available time, he had installed the dimmer switch along with a second one and gave me enough information to successfully complete the rest of my electrical projects on my own. Ours was a small job. I worried I would have a hard time finding someone to do the work. The back door seemed to have problems with the frame and things were shifting. The first person that looked at it intimated that it might be a foundation shift ($$$ ? ). That person did not return for their next scheduled work visit. I called Rob next due to YELP reviews and he did respond immediately. He came and assessed the situation and said it wasn't a foundation shift (phew!). It appears that there was dry rot of some kind in the surrounding frame. Rob explained the whole thing and gave me an estimate of 250$ for 2 1/2 hours of work. He returned, as he said he would, a few days later and fixed it. We will be asking him to do a few other things for us. I did not feel that he was pushing things on us. In fact, he said the whole door thing could wait, but we'd be selling at some point and wanted it fixed. Rob was reliable, straight up on pricing and competent on the work. read more
