HM's representatives were great and very accommodating; they showed up on time and kept us comprised of the progress at each point along the way. Plus, the workmanship was excellent, and we are extremely happy with the result. But what distinguishes Hamish Murray from other good contractors is his honesty and integrity. About a year after the end of the project, I contacted them about leakage through a new retaining wall. Hamish himself came out to take a look. He decided it needed to be excavated and waterproofed, and that a drainage pipe should be installed. Moreover, he is doing all this new work for free, because he believed it was a mistake on their part not to do it during the construction period. Now THAT'S integrity! I would give them 10 stars if I could.

Fast forward 20 years and we reached a point in life where we could afford to turn our place into what we always knew it could be. Hamish Murray was extremely flexible when it came to the bidding process and the various hoops we had to jump through to for the bank to finance our construction loan (check out Clackamas County Bank.) With Hamish Murray the price they quoted you is the price you're going to pay. While we made them suffer through countless change orders as we added mid-project upgrades, never did I hear that something was going to cost more than was originally quoted. I grew up working on wooden boats and old houses on the east coast, so often when I look at modern construction it doesn't feel like it has the same craftsman attention to detail as you'd see in early 20th century work. That's not the case with Hamish Murray. The subs they used cared deeply about their craft and you can tell in every corner. If something looked at all sloppy, it was redone without question or cost to me. Concrete was re-poured, cabinets were repainted - the level of quality assurance was what you'd expect out of a builder making their own home. Every morning as I have my coffee I feel like I'm on vacation in a fancy boutique hotel, but its my kitchen! Every night as tuck in the kids and lock up, I feel like I'm already in a dream. The master bath was about 60sq ft (excluding alcove shower) in a 1999 3-story condo, and the job scope included: demolish/remove original alcove tub, sinks, vanity, mirror, vinyl flooring, baseboards install new tub with 12x24" tile shower walls install new shower fixtures at taller height install 12x12" tile flooring install new plywood, solid-door vanity install new porcelain sinks and hardware install shower curtain rod install vanity backsplash tile install tile baseboards The half bath was about 25sq ft and the job scope included: install new toilet with appropriate flange install new stand-alone vanity install sink fixture Michael and Chevy did the work themselves and met every timeline. Michael was responsive and communicative, quickly notifying us of changes. He got the job done with high-quality standards and within a reasonable timeframe, despite delays and set backs. For example, in late Feb 2025 there was a significant snow/ice storm that delayed the project by 2 days. Michael showed up on the weekends to continue the job to try and make up time. He was consistent, reliable, and transparent. Another example: Our master bath floor was not level enough for the tile, and Michael was clear and open about what had to be done to get the job finished to a top-quality standard. It added a couple days to the timeframe (and some cost), but the final result was well worth it. Last example: The half bath toilet flange had several errors from the original build and contractor work, and the toilet we bought had a manufacturing defect (leak) we found after installing the toilet. Despite these obstacles and added time, Michael brought the flange to code, uninstalled the defective toilet, and installed the defect-free replacement. There were several curveballs with our job and Michael handled them professionally and courteously, making sure we were involved with every change decision along the way. We are thinking about hiring him for our second (guest) bath remodel, and wish him all the success a small business owner can have!

I e-mail'd them the sketch, they gave me a quote, guy shows up and charges me $150 for saying the quote's not valid; stupidly I allow them to come back after assurances from the "boss", only to find out after the callback that they charged my CC without my approval!] Would never again consider them ... not even to clean out a birdhouse. Be skeptical of the reviews which claim they were less expensive than others [unless it's a neurosurgeon]. In summary, I'll not longer use Yelp.

I have worked with Pete Popa at Legacy Decks and Fence for over 15 years and on several properties…read more Pete is dependable and honest. Most importantly, he stands behind his work. He has built three different types of decks on my current property and all of them are of top quality and built to last. The first deck Pete built for me was to replace a cedar deck attached to my home. He used Brazilian Hardwood, or IPE, because of its durability and low maintenance qualities. The picture is current of a deck that was built 14 years ago. The second deck he built was around my Koi pond and we chose Trex decking to go over existing structure. This deck is 13 years old and as attractive as the day it was built. The third deck he built was a few months ago. The deck it replaced was cedar and I wanted to replicate what was there because it lasted so well. Pete used pressure treated beams stringers. Any cuts in the wood was painted with a protective treatment that is necessary when such wood is cut and the raw wood is exposed. The cedar boards were stained on all sides prior to being laid into place. I expect this deck to last for thirty years. Pete is also excellent with fence replacement. My pressure treated wood deck was replaced with a metal fence over 14 years ago and still looks new. No problems with posts or material to date. Lastly, Pete built a retaining wall at the edge of my property. It was built to be maintained and corrected, should the ground shift and require adjustments. The crew at Legacy Decks and fence are very easy to deal with and Pete ensures that all work is up to his standards. I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the work. And the test of time has proven the durability to me.
