This is a disappointing review to write because I was initially really happy with them, and the experience went downhill pretty quick. We used GM for both siding and exterior paint, at first they were extremely communicative, friendly, and the siding project itself seemed to go fine other than a few mishaps. With the siding, we loved how it looked but the work crew lacked professionalism. They left nails all over our yard, ripped bushes out of the ground on a carefully lined walkway, and pulled our front bushes down so aggressively they've never come back up and will have to be ripped out. The nails were a huge concern because we have a dog, and had we run one over with a mower that could have been dangerous for us as well. Months later we are still finding them. The contractors did compensate us for the bush they trampled. On to the paint. The painting contractors were awful from start to (never really) finished. They were unprofessional, left things in our trees and bushes, left garbage around our house and yard, trampled the bushes we had just replaced from the contractors (we weren't reimbursed this time), moved our fence post to a crooked location that we can't fix. Beyond that, we had a dark gray color with white trim, if you've ever painted over a dark color with white you know you have to have MANY coats to not have seep through of the darker color. For some reason, they painted all of it the dark color and then went over the trim with white, so in many areas you can see the bleed through of the gray. It looks tacky and like we DIY'd it. Additionally, we asked for the garage to be painted white and they painted it dark gray like the house.. when we asked them to fix it, they didn't open it to paint so as soon as we opened the garage it cracked on the bending panel and the insulation came out. I got in contact with the contractors right away and Kara said she would send someone out. She didn't, and that was now almost 3 months ago and they've completely ghosted us with a broken garage. They've also left their porta potty in front of our house this entire time (3 months and counting). Our neighbors across the street also hired them for siding and paint and they've also completely ghosted them for the paint. We initially would have recommended them but they ended up screwing us over so I'd go anywhere else. read more

This company disappeared in the middle of our siding repair project after spotting some small issues with the siding install, they wouldn't return our calls. Found out later they completely installed our siding wrong (nailed to the thin side of the cedar boards, rather than face nailing), on top of installing the wrong siding (a cheaper thinner version of the cedar siding on our house currently, different texture as well). We tried to go through arbitration with them with the state contacting board, and they didn't show. A few months after the siding installation the siding was warping and lifting off the house(literally flapping in the wind), which was the sign of the improper install. We eventually found a really good contractor who pointed out everything GM did wrong, they took down all of GM's work and replaced it with the correct siding. We ended up going to court over with them and won (check their CCB# on the state contractors site), again they didn't show up (won by default). I would say they probably are getting good reviews because they are fast and cheap (which is what realtors like). I would also worry in the following years on anything they install, they are probably hiding issues that will bite you later. If you look at Curly V.'s (3 star) review it's exactly what happened to us except they didn't prop up(shim) the siding to try to hide they put in cheaper cedar siding. read more

Had siding repaired after steps and other items were taken down in remodel of exterior deck. Their "new" cedar siding seemed in most places to be 75% as thick as the original - not sure why that was necessary and not a happy thing to see, as it was never mentioned in the estimate. Then, looking closer, I found places where the new siding was only 50% as thick as the original siding, with a spacer piece inserted to make it look like the original thickness when viewed from normal distance. I'm not a siding expert but it looks to me like corners were cut. These thin pieces were NEVER explained to me, and were NOT in the original bid, which was 7K for a small amount of work - they were done with everything in 1 day by 3pm. read more

I highly recommend this company for any of your outdoor siding or painting needs. The communication is the best I have ever experienced with any house related service. Goran and Kara are a husband and wife team like no other. We hired Goran to remodel our 2500 sq foot house in NW Portland. They remodeled the living room, dining room, family room, fire place, master bedroom, and master bath. They pretty much took it down to the studs, moved walls, raised ceilings and made it look like new. The timeline they did this in was amazing. They did it all in 2.5 months. GM was recommended by my neighbor, who had seen their work while he was walking through our neighborhood. He is a former contractor, so I took his word and gave them a call. I had already had several quotes (which took weeks) from other contractors, but Kara got right back to me and I had a quote within a few days, even though they were on vacation. Their quote was by far the most affordable, with virtually no difference in materials (I had HardiePlank installed on our house). They were able to start very quickly, as opposed to more expensive quotes that could not give me a set date because they were booked "for the foreseeable future", and the crews came out and got the job done faster than was quoted. We are very pleased with the job done and definitely recommend them if you want a good job done at an excellent price. Kata and Goran came out each day and on the last day, Goran ran to HomeDepot to get some caulking to personally touch up some small thing that I noticed. Kara and Goran and their crew are amazing. They came highly recommended in the Next Door app. I, however still have to get other bids. I am also an apples to apples person. GM Construction came in over $6k under other companies. They were so patient with all of our questions, design changes, etc. The work looks amazing. Neighbors have all made positive comments on the house and it hasn't even been painted yet. They treat their employees with respect and their employees all work hard. They were great about communicating everything with us. Would use them again, but hopefully won't have to as HardiPlank is supposed to be good for 30 years. They also were knowledgeable on replacing the cedar vs installing HP. It was only $8k more to HP the entire house vs, replacing 2 sides of cedar. read more

We had Kara and Goran re-side our entire house. We had an infinite amount of questions before the project started, and Kara was awesome at being super responsive and getting everything answered. They were also super flexible in everything - we had lots of different requests and ideas, and they accommodated all of them. Throughout the job, they were easy to work with and provided constant updates over text and email. All of our suggestions and were taken into consideration, and they were really focused on wanting us to be happy with the final outcome. Both Kara and Goran are also really nice people, and made sure to provide their professional opinion without making it feel like everything was set in stone. They also worked with us on a payment plan that made us feel more comfortable. I can't say enough good things about working with them! The crew worked really fast and the end result looked absolutely fantastic, we could not be more pleased! All the guys in the crew were really nice and considerate, which is really important. Our only concern in the end was clean-up; one of our neighbors told us she was really upset because she ended up with pieces of our siding, nails, and caulk tubes in her yard. Our yard too still has a good amount of staples, nails, and other materials that we are still finding. I know the crew tried to clean up the best they could, but it might be awhile before we get everything looking nice. Lastly, the construction caused an electrical issue (one circuit stopped working) and we are in the process of figuring out who is responsible and what we can do about it. I do have faith that we will identify a solution that feels good to all of us. Overall, I would definitely recommend them! read more

Kara and GM Construction were prompt, professional, and always available via phone, text, or e-mail (even on Saturday and Sunday)! We are especially grateful to Kara and GM Construction! They really went above and beyond to help us in an emergency situation! I highly recommend GM Construction and will be sending friends, family, and co-workers their way! I first contacted GM Construction on Saturday, Jan. 27th. We had an emergency at our house with a rain leak coming into the inside wall, due to some holes in our siding. A previous contractor had come by that morning and tore a hole in the wall and tore some siding off, before determining that the job was too big for him and he left! We were left with holes in our inside and outside walls, on a Saturday, with lots of rain coming in the forecast. I searched on Yelp for Contractors with good ratings and who were open on Saturday. I called several other Contractors, but, I just got voicemail and no real live person to speak with about our emergency situation. Then, I found GM Construction. Kara answered the phone and was extremely helpful! She was able to send us a bid, using the pictures that I sent her. On Sunday, 1/28 we accepted the Contract. Kara said she'd fit us into their Emergency schedule. Sure enough! Kara called me Monday morning 1/29 and said she had a large crew working out in Sylvan and she could take some from that crew and head out to Beaverton that morning! She went out to our house with the crew and sent me texts with pictures and very detailed explanations of their progress. (Both my husband and I couldn't get the day off from work that day). They were finished by 3:15 pm, on Monday, 1/29! The whole process, from the time I first called Kara, to the completed work was only 52 hours! Kara and GM Construction really came to our rescue quickly and professionally! Kara even saved us some money, by helping with some great advice. We were fearful regarding some wet spots on the garage ceiling from the leak in the siding. She suggested that there was no need to cut into the garage ceiling, to look if any of the wood was rotten from the leak. She explained that the crew did not see any dry rot on the outside or the studs, they treated the studs before putting the plywood on, they put new flashing at the wall/roof interception so that should solve any water getting back into the garage ceiling. They fixed the source of the leak, and if it was her house, she wouldn't cut into the garage ceiling. She said to draw circles around the wet spots on the garage ceiling, to see if the wet spots spread after the fix to the outside siding was done. A few days later, the spots were dry! Kara was right! No need to spend additional money to tear into the garage ceiling! I am amazed at the prompt and professional service, the excellent communication, and the great, honest work that GM Construction did for us!!! We've hired Goran to help with installing an aluminum decorative fence (which turned out beautiful!) and more significantly, Goran was instrumental in our Accessory Dwelling Unit project at our house. We converted the basement into an ADU and were under tight deadlines and working with the city permitting office (which, if you know anything about that it adds 100x the stress). Goran was reliable and always there when we needed him, did every task with a wonderful attitude and really calmed our nerves in times of crisis. I had my house resided by GM Construction. They seemed to do a good job for the most part, I believe that 99% of my house is rot and leak free. However, for some reason they did not flash the deck ledger even though it was obviously missing flashing. They should have at least pointed out the defect before continuing to side the house. After I paid them they stopped being responsive; ignoring emails, texts, and voice mails. There may have been a technology issue with our phones texting each other, but the other modes of communication also went ignored. Since the deck was not flashed correctly, we now just discovered that it has some major rot issues that are affecting the framing of the house. So now we are having to remove the siding under the deck they installed to get to the rot. They also put flashing over the nails on the deck boards, making it difficult to remove the deck boards to get to the rot. All the carpenters, window replacers, and deck builders I talk to say they should have checked for this rot before continuing to side the house. Also, some of the trim they used was made of wood and not Hardiplank as I specified. I was not able to catch this mistake during construction as I don't have any experience with these materials. read more

We hired Goran and Kara to reside our home. Our budget was tight and they worked with us to bid only the parts of the job that we couldn't do ourselves. Kara was great about answering questions and tweaking the bid while we were planning (and changing our minds). They both were easy to talk to and offered professional advice. (I know it was good advice, since I verified, Yes, I'm a slightly obsessive researcher.) They also provided the addresses of a few homes I could see that they had sided so I could SEE the products they use and the quality of their work. The supplies and the crew arrived exactly on schedule. The crew were very respectful, nice, and considerate (though my Spanish is not great.) Goran and Kara dropped by about once a day to check in. They were very accommodating when we discovered our home had no insulation and we asked to put the work on hold so that we could get a weatherization company in to blow in insulation. Even with that delay, the work was done on time. They used proper equipment and were safe and responsible while doing the work and installed according to the siding (Hardie fiber cement) specifications. They went above and beyond. Goran inspected the work on the last day and corrected small issues on the spot. The site was "broom clean" when they finished, and they were generous with bits of hardware and other small supplies we might need as we continue our home maintenance work.
