Pricing of the project was very reasonable; I think it was the second-lowest quote we got, but Sawtooth's materials and warranty were better. Jose and his crew did a great job. During the job, every day's end-of-day cleanup was great. The end result looks beautiful, and we're very happy with the way everything went. The high end materials and awesome warranty also add to the satisfaction of a job well done. One hiccup: 2 fascia boards with some minor dry-rot at their ends were supposed to be replaced before the installation of new gutters (new gutters were part of the project). Somehow that fell through the cracks, and the gutters went up over the 2 boards. Darrin quickly took ownership of the issue, and did a great job of repairing/rebuilding the corner where the problem was. Very satisfied with the response to the issue! Suggestion to Sawtooth: if new gutters are in the project, they need to be included in the project scope all the way to the end. That includes final inspection and invoicing. The QA inspection by Nick should have been done AFTER the gutters were installed, not before. The inspection should include both the roof and the gutters, not just the roof. The final invoice should be emailed AFTER the gutters are installed, and all issues are settled.

Clow went until after 7 pm when it was so dark they could not see what they were doing, and what sounded like a sledgehammer fell off the roof. Their safety practices are also suspect, with inadequate protection to passers-by as they chuck gutters off the roof, straight ladders propped at precarious angles and not level, and plywood boards falling onto the front porch stairs while the residents are taking children down the same stairs. I would be very cautious.

This is an example of what dealing with any contractor should be. After much research I had decided to install the Hardie siding. I wanted to use a contractor who was familiar with the product and installed to James Hardie criteria and specifications. I went to James Hardie's website and searched for contractors that are designated as Elite Preferred. ACAE popped up and had impeccable reviews. Starting with the sales person, Joe, he thoroughly explained what they would do for me. He was knowledgeable and personable. There was absolutely no pressure whatsoever. The bid was higher than the others but after researching (ACAE) and speaking with Joe, I was convinced they were the company for me. In this case, you really get what you pay for. I was introduced to Josh, the Project Manager. Once again, very knowledgeable and personable. Very easy to work with and communicated with me on a daily basis. When problems cropped up, he was always there to offer suggestions on how to proceed. His crew, led by Nikolay with Rosty and Eugene, did amazing work. The workmanship is impeccable; the crew was very organized and professional. They always made the worksite safe and clean; leaving everything spotless when they left at the end of the day. I can't emphasize enough the quality of their work. It was just beautiful. The paint crew, led by Vladimir, once again did unbelievable work; totally transforming the appearance of an already exquisite job. Although color decisions were ultimately mine, Vladimir was always willing to offer a suggestion as to which color to use on a particular area. (I had selected four colors for the primary on the house, secondary for the house, trim and the doors.) These individuals collectively transformed my house (a basic ranch) into a home that I am proud to show off. In summation, I would highly recommend A Cut Above Exteriors if you want premium quality work on your home. From the initial bidding process with Nels, I learned more about roof care, maintenance, installation, and science than from any other roofing company. Cascade wasn't the cheapest, but they also weren't the most expensive. Quite frankly, my bid was a couple thousand cheaper than I thought it would be. Nels was honest, forthright, and probably told me more than a salesman should. But I like that...it's called trust. I was comfortable with Nels. Cascade does all work with salaried employees...not subbed out like other roofers. This means the guys on the job have careers, not jobs, and they act like it. No cussing, no loud music, no slacking off. Everybody was on time, and the crew worked their butts off like no skilled craftsmen I'd ever seen before. Contractors get a bad rap, but these guys came through. Clearly they ate Wheaties for breakfast, because these guys worked like champions. I heard a great deal of laughter throughout the day, showing that the workers all have a strong rapport with each other. My roof went on in one day. That's right, a contractor on site at my home for ONE DAY. They cleaned up the work site, and I was left with a great looking home.
