I contacted this company to evaluate a leaking skylight and was surprised when the roof estimator arrived in an open‑bed pickup with no ladder, even though roof access was clearly required. He said his kids had removed it over the weekend. I offered my 36‑foot ladder so he could take a look. He leaned it against my gutter, which began to bend as he climbed, so I stopped him to prevent further damage. He said he would return the next day with a technician and proper equipment to fix the gutter and inspect the skylight. He never showed up. When I called the office, I was told he would call me back, which never happened. Overall, this was an unprofessional experience, and I would not recommend this company. read more

Avoid this company. Stalcup did a full teardown and put a new, 30 year warrantee, roof on in 2003. Within months of them having done this the roof started leaking around the chimney and, it was noted by a contractor doing a different project on my house, that the roofers had lifted the electric roof fan, disrupting the power but did not cap the live wires. When I called Stalcup about these concerns they sent 2 guys out to tar around the chimney and completely remove the fan (a decision not discussed with me) and patch the roof. More recently, in prep to put my house up for sale a pre-inspection check revealed the roof is prematurely at end of life. I called Stalcup to request that they honor the warrantee but they declined to do this instead, they sent a salesman to offer me a bid on a 50 year warrantee roof! There are too many reputable companies out there, do not risk your roof with Stalcup. read more

We needed to do a little emergency work from the ice storm and while nobody loves being in that situation, Jay & team did a great job. They were on time, priced well and most importantly for us he walked us through everything going on so we could make informed decisions. We ended up replacing the skylights with energy efficient ones in addition to the emergency work, and the team was fast and organized replacing those as well. HAPPY WITH OUR CHOICE Stalcup did some work for us several years ago and we were amazed at their willingness to respond to our emergency in such a quick fashion. They just completed re-roofing our home and we are happy to say that their dedication to excellence has not changed. My son is a former roofing foreman and worked for several large roofing companies. Stalcup gets a thumbs up from him so I would say that says quite a lot. From our initial estimate through completion Jay was hands on. He was the only estimator that actually went up into our attic during his estimate review. His estimate was detailed and each phase was detailed and well itemized. We asked for some extra things that are not usually included in his scope of work and he was more than willing to oblige those requests. We replaced our Cedar Shake roof with composite and from strip down to completed roof and clean up, it only took them two days. The crew arrived at daylight and worked until it was dark. They are respectful, hard working, focused, efficient, and skilled at what they do. Jay takes personal ownership over the quality of work that his crews perform. He is patient, kind, and responsive. If something isn't right, he will address it personally to insure that desired outcomes are achieved. After accepting the quote they came out as scheduled and did the tear-off and replace job, finishing way ahead of schedule. Roof looks great and workmanship appears to be solid. Followed up with a walk-around inspection, and guarantees 5 years on labor alongside actual 40-year roof manufacturers warranty. Quality work, on time, as per quote. Stalcup folks are amazing. They just completed a complicated roof project on a commercial building. Over the years they helped us out with leaks many a time and when it was time for a new roof ... they were there for us. The price was reasonable. Jay gave us options and answered our many many questions.. During the process he worked with us to ensure our tenants were inconvenienced as little as possible. Starting early so one tenant could open as usual in the afternoon. Doing work on the day another tenant was closed. Minimizing the noise and even went inside to clean up dust for one of our tenants!!! He communicated with us daily as to the progress and what steps were next. They finished the job on schedule. NJ, Dan, and Erica were honest straight forward and friendly and very knowledgeable about everything in the roofing work but what stood out the most to me was the crew who tore off the old roof and installed the new one. I was a roofer for 2yrs and have never seen such fast and hard workers in my life. One guy was loading material onto the roof and at the same time cutting boards to size and cleaning up all at the same time mean while the other 3 guys were making sure everything was lining up correct and just working super fast getting the roof installed. On the recommendation of someone, I asked Stalcup for some flashing to be applied above the rooftop mounts of a power awning to divert water. They quoted $425. I expected some elaborate flashing for that kind of money. I was out of town and they sent an invoice. Based on my contractor friend's recommendation, I wanted to be sure Stalcup got paid even before I was able to inspect the work. This is what I ended up with for $425. Four pieces of sheet metal that looks like it was bent by hand slid up under the shingle course above. Seriously? I later asked them to reconsider the price and they told me because I paid already they'd give me a discount on future work. I don't do business with profiteers. In the future or otherwise. After pouring Portland rains and an old roof -water started coming into my kitchen! I called several roofers that were all recommended by people I know... Most of them wasted my time and told me the repairs would be really expensive upward of $25,000 Then I got a referral to Stalcup- they came out looked around fixed the leak for free and gave me an estimate on having all the other repairs done which was totally affordable and told me my roof has anywhere from 3 to 5 more years! Wow.. I totally trust them and some of the repair work they want to do makes more sense than how my roof was originally built. I inquired with Stalcup after some shingles on my roof began to fall for no apparent reason. I bought my home a few years ago and the prior owner had installed a new roof in the few years prior to the purchase but refused to provide any information about what company installed it, when it was installed, etc. As one might imagine, finding warranty information is kind of impossible in this type of situation. Stalcup was very responsive and Jeremy called to set up a time to take a look. He was able to come by the next day and not only did he fix the shingle issue, he made another minor adjustment when he noticed a small installation error with some flashing/venting. The issue was fixed quickly and he didn't even charge me!! I offered to pay for his time and still, he said he didn't feel right charging for such a small fix. This company is very professional. I got six bids and they were the lowest. They applied a quality black, architectural roof and did some extra flashing. I had on tarry spot that needed some extra work and they came back a few days later at my request to touch it up. The first day they tore off my old roof they had 9 guys and a big semi-truck. Very large operation. The next day they finished up the job with 4-6 guys. I'm very happy with the job they did and they cleaned up all their mess. Very easy to deal with and they didn't even require any deposit. I should also note, out of the six bids I got, Cascade Roofing was the the most expensive and the worst, they tried to up-sell me on stuff I didn't need, and their estimator must have sold used cars int he past. I would recommend this roofing company. We used them for a partial roof replacement of a flat/low grade roof which they did very well and does not leak to this day. Mid summer, the busiest time, and I needed a small amount of repair work done on my roof to complete a sale. Others were too busy to come out for a couple weeks, but this company showed up at 7 am the next day, did the repairs right then, and were off to their next job by 7:30 am. Super helpful, thoughtful, polite and informative. They didn't oversell on maintenance agreements or other services, but did a nice job of looking the roof over, explaining what they were doing, and completing what needed to be done. They did the repairs on our roof in 2012 and not only did they not remove and replace rotten rafters, they used the cheapest, most inappropriate materials to mask the rot and called it $6,900 worth of work! I recommend avoiding this company due to our experience including poor communication about scheduling, a rude and abusive employee and roof work that continues to leak and will require bringing in another company to fix. The first issue was that communication was terrible. A realtor brought them out to do an estimate on a property we were buying. We contacted them to see if they had an opening to complete the roof repairs during a certain time period. They would not speak to us until we signed paperwork. It was very naive of us, but we signed the documents and contacted them again to ask about scheduling. They did not get back to us, other than someone from their office calling to tell us that we were on the schedule for that same week, when we had already explained to them that we weren't closing on the property until the next month. I restated the time frame that we were looking for and was told that they would call back. They never called and did not respond to follow up e-mails. So, we decided to go with another company. Meanwhile, we left town and were unavailable by phone for a while (something we had mentioned in an e-mail to Stalcup roofing because we had asked if we could schedule the work before we became unavailable). We then found out that Stalcup had shown up at the property while we were away and started work. This was before we closed on and owned the property (again, something we had told Stalcup). I contacted them when we got home to find out what the situation was - how much work they had done and why they had started work without talking to us (this had put the purchase of the property in jeopardy). The person on the phone was extremely rude and abusive. This is someone who should never have any contact with the public. It was shocking and a little frightening. I told him I was hanging up and that I did not want to have further communication with him or the company. I did not know, at this time, what the status of the repairs were or what was going to happen with the charges. The owner ended up calling me back and was very apologetic. At that time, I agreed with the owner to let them finish the work, as he was very polite about it and we knew it would be costly to bring in another company to assess the current situation, do another estimate and complete repairs. Stalcup completed the repairs and charged us the originally estimated price, which seemed excessive to me considering the issues that we had. We paid and thought we were done with them. When the heavy fall rains came the roof started leaking and damaging the walls. We called Stalcup because they had guaranteed their work. They came out and worked on it, then it started leaking again. This happened several more times in the same area. Then, heavy rains came again and it again started leaking in a different area. We called Stalcup. This time, they called back saying that they had information from the estimator. I asked why there was an estimator involved because we had only called them for follow up work on their guarantee. I was told that this work was not covered under the guarantee. When I asked why, I was told they would look in to it and call me back. At this point, we will hire another company that we have had good experiences with and have them come do repair work. Going with Stalcup was a waste of time and money and was a stressful experience. edit: Stalcup followed up with us to clarify that they do not consider the current leak to be associated with the work that they guaranteed, so that is why they would be charging us to fix it. read more
