Shaffer & Sons

Our deck was nearing the end of its life. We sought out multiple deck contractors and just about…read moreevery one of them said it was unsalvageable and that we should replace it. However, replacing the deck would mean having to update it to current building codes and permits, which would then mean having to hire an engineer for our small 6' x 14' deck... Bruce came over, took a look and casually said, we can add more supports and fix the deck instead of having to replace it. He walked us through all the repairs he would do, he listened to our concerns and wrote up an estimate that weekend. I choose to hire him because of his straightforwardness in answering all my questions, he was so down to earth and friendly, I felt like he was trustworthy. We went from potentially having to wait months and spend $20,000 on a new replacement deck to spending about $5,000 on repairs and taking considerably less time. They were booked out till about October and would contact us when the time came closer, they did just that and were able to fix the deck in a day. We hired him to come back to build a 2nd retaining wall, his son came out and built it in less than an hour. They used high quality materials, I feel like the wood used will last a long time. A year later, we noticed that the deck was starting to sink and consulted with Bruce. He came over, took a look and figured it was probably the ground material was soft and causing the deck to sink. He offered to fix it, FREE OF CHARGE. It wasn't his fault the ground was soft, it just shows how much integrity he has in his work. Hands down, I would recommend him to anyone. My neighbor immediately asked for his contact!

They also left concrete debris from removing an old post in my raised bed. They were the cheapest bid ($950), but I now have a gate with holes that I will need to replace in a few years. Wouldn't recommend.

Constantine and Ion had to do a bit of problem solving to replace the broken sections. As a seamstress, I know it's harder to do a repair than to start fresh. But the work was done with great care and the results are outstanding. They went above and beyond what was expected, tightening all the bolts on the other sections and more. Thank you!

Immediately after they finished, the railing top they installed warped and exposed big gaps at the mitered edges. It was a nearly 1/4" gap - that kind of build tolerance just looks terrible. I paid the bill in full because I trust a reputable operation to fix something like that. But once I paid, it was virtually impossible to get a response from Mitica. After weeks of trying to track him down, he finally agreed to a small credit. But he never followed through. I ended up having to pay a different contractor to come back and replace his shoddy work with sheet metal. After the fact, Mitica said the wood often warps when it's attached to an existing railing. So why would he perform the work in the first place, knowing that it will come out badly? And once it does come out very badly, why wouldn't he follow through with some remedy? It is very frustrating to deal with a supposedly premium contractor who does business like this.
