After having a general contractor working on my kitchen remodel for months with disappointing results, I wanted to get a firm that really knew what they were doing to install the tile for my kitchen backsplash ... but I was worried that the job was too small. After exploring online sources, I found Artistic Stone Design and was dazzled by the images and the glowing reviews. I made the call and talked to Kayla, who did not seem worried about the scope of my work. I sent the specs of my job -- length and width of the area to be tiled along with pictures of the kitchen walls -- and got an estimate of the job almost immediately. Since it was a reasonable bid, I accepted. Once we determined when my tile was to be delivered, I was immediately put on ASD's schedule. From request for bid to install in a little over a week. On Monday morning, ASD's employee Slavic arrived and we walked through the project. I pointed out the one challenge that seemed most tricky -- under-cabinet lighting that was installed pretty close to the wall -- but Slavic said it would be OK. We looked at the tile and he guided me to picking the best color of grout for the job. I would have gone with something that was too gray so I was grateful for his expert assistance. Slavic got to work unpacking the tile, prepping the area including covering my new countertops and appliances and putting tarps down to protect my new flooring. He set up his saw in the garage and began his work. He was able to set all of the tile on Day 1. He cleaned up the kitchen and said he would return in the morning to grout the job. On Day 2, Slavic grouted the tile, wiped off the excess, then found spots that needed a touchup and made them perfect. Before he left, he cleaned all of the tile and the whole kitchen (including the range hood) so that it sparkled. He made sure the under-cabinet lighting was working, cleaned up the garage and was on his way. After all of the drama and chaos of working with my general contractor for three months, working with ASD was a welcome bright spot in my kitchen remodel. I have more work for them to do once I turn a bedroom into a primary bathroom and have a midcentury fireplace designed and built, I'm thinking now I'll have ASD tile the front of my 9-foot island. My husband and we're told about ASD by my mom and step-father. They worked with ASD when remodeling their home and had such an amazing experience we didn't even blink to work with them. From start to finish Marina was a pleasure to work with. She was very communicative, prompt in replies to any questions we had, and was thorough in explaining cost and process. We had an unusually large island and the install required way more people than I had expected, but they went above and beyond to make sure they would have the people here to install. They took extra care to not damage our new floors and were careful to clean up after themselves. There was only two small chips out of the trim on our new cabinets we had installed and this was not addressed. We had to have our cabinet installers come back to fix this issue as it was told to us this is just part of install. Fortunately it was just surface damage and easily fixed. Aside from the install mishap we are very pleased with this countertop, the customer service and the install. My wife and I are remodeling the kitchen in our 100 year old home, replacing a 1970's mustard Formica countertop with quartz on existing cabinets. We decided on Artistic Stone Design after reviewing many Yelp reviews and meeting with Marina. ASD did a great job in completing the countertops and backsplash. Dave handled the measuring/patterning and was always prompt for our appointments. Marina was great to work with in selecting the materials we used. The installation of the countertops went well; their crew was great. A slight problem with the backsplash, when one tile at an outlet cracked after the installer had left and the tile was still setting. It was promptly repaired when we let them know. If only all contractors could be run like Artistic. I emailed Marina 3 days before Christmas for a quote and she got back to me the next day. Her communication level was spectacular, always keeping in touch via text and close by to answer questions. Her install team knocked out the project in a half day and the finished product looks great. We had quartz installed and their seam work is amazing, you can't see it. Even the slab seller at Pental complimented us on our choice of fabricator/installer because of the quality of their work. We wanted to submit an EXCELLENT review of Artistic Stone Design and in particular the tile installer, Joseph we found the tile job done for our shower to have been an amazing and beautiful job, exactly what we had hoped for. Additionally , the installer was neat - he put down protective paper on our stairs, drop cloths on carpeting, and again, protective paper in the bathroom space. Also, the job was completed in a timely manner, as quoted. After completing the job he left all areas clean and free of any debris. Outside, where the tile cutting tools were used, he left that area tidy and cleaned up. Finally, when the tile job was done, we found it was fully completed to our specifications - leaving us happy with the finished product. When my husband and I finally made the decision to kiss our 90's-era white tile countertops goodbye, I requested estimates from five different companies. ASD replied faster than the rest. ASD is the whole package! They are such a pleasure to work with! I highly recommend them! My wife and I wanted new counter tops in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom, and we wanted to replace an older tile back splash in the kitchen, but we had no idea where to start. ASD walked us through the entire process and literally held our hands the whole way. They originally came out and gave us a quote on the quartz slab and labor to install, as well as labor to demo and install a new tile back splash. We did make some modifications here and there (including picking a completely different quartz slab the day before our original selection was delivered) before settling on a final quote. I think it's important to say that what we PAID was exactly what was quoted. They did not go over budget. We ended up purchasing a full quartz slab for the kitchen counters, a remnant for the bathroom, and a remnant for the garden window sill, all from ASD. We did purchase marble back splash tile separately. ASD did the demo and then installed all of it and it came out beautiful! The fabrication was perfect, the counter seam is almost invisible, and the tile work looks finished and professionally done. They cleaned up after themselves each day and came back upon request to touch up a few minor imperfections in the polish of the quartz. We love our new kitchen and how perfect everything looks. ASD is an outstanding contractor and I would recommend them without reservation. Working with Marina on the front end of the project and then with Alex during the actual construction has been wonderful. The project they did for me was converting a bathtub to a shower and then refacing a floor to ceiling fireplace surround. This work was in condo with the associated rules and regulations and ASD worked well without any hiccups. And to further add to the complexity of the project, this is a second home for me so I was not in the area much prior to or even during the actual construction. Marina and Alex never dropped the ball on anything and the original estimated start and finish dates were pretty spot on. And lastly I have to give a shout out to their great crafts people. My concerns and questions were thoroughly addressed and answered before we moved forward with the project itself. As far as the work itself goes: they had great communication throughout the work process. Same day (sometimes same hour) responses to emails/texts. AND they finished ahead of schedule. But when I asked why the material price is 150% higher than what their supplier told me (I didn't ask for a price reduction, just asking if there are other more affordable material), they refuse to take my project. Quality does take money but when you ask too much about the details you will be fired by this company. My wife and I have done granite kitchens in our last two houses and realized the value in getting recommendations from whole sellers.. I was referred by a local granite wholesale company to several installers here in the Portland area and I did some quick research and sent off email inquirers to five companies, sent layouts to three of them. I choose ASD as Marina was quick to respond to emails and pricing was essentially in the middle of the bids and Yelp reviews were good. There was not a hard sell for extras but extras were offered- I choose to do the demo myself as well as adding steel to the peninsula for added weight bearing capability. Saved some money and gave me something to do. The granite we picked was beautiful and ASD did an outstanding job with fabrication and installation. I would recommend them for sure to family and friends. We now have to do the bathroom- will go a prefab route for this as it is less critical- and less expensive to do.... ASD is not cheap- but they are really good. read more

Phenomenal experience with Artistic Stone Design. Their work is best in class. After completing a kitchen and powder bath upgrade with ASD late summer, we decided to proceed with the even bigger project of updating our guest bath and master bathroom. We wanted to update the flooring, backsplash, tub/shower surrounds w/niche, and add heated floors in the master. The project was estimated to take about a month and we coordinated the sequencing to make sure one bathroom worked while the other was under construction. This approach was great as it didn't add any disruptions to our daily life throughout the process. Since we already knew the materials we wanted for both bathrooms we worked with ASD to purchase all materials in bulk upfront, but they would pick up the materials themselves as needed. We on the other hand, housed the new sinks/faucets and tubs at our house during construction. This wasn't too much of an inconvenience because we had an area of our garage to house the items. Surprisingly the guest upgrade start to finish took only 7 work days!! I was blown away how quickly it was done but most importantly the quality of the work. Just outstanding and beautiful. The master bath started the following day and we moved into the new updated guest bathroom immediately. The master required more attention due to size, heated floors, and separate shower/tub setups but I would say the process went just as smooth as it did with the simple guest bathroom. The master project took about 13 work days to finish - amazing speed and quality as well. We also got a bonus: based on the amount of quartz and tile we purchased, we were able to update the small vanity in our basement bathroom. Now all of our bathrooms coordinate beautifully. In the beginning it was estimated this project would take about 1 month, but in reality they finished nearly a week early and on budget. It should also be said that their team is extremely friendly and professional to work with. The entire experience was very enjoyable and I always felt like our needs/questions were respected and welcomed. It was a true collaboration. We did run into a few issues with materials that were normal for this type of project (backorder, shortage) but ASD was always on top of it, communicated with me, and provided workaround solutions to stay on track. I highly recommend working with ASD for your tile and slab needs. Their work is best in class and we are so happy to have found them. *I should also mention that they have an extensive team that reaches beyond tile and slab: plumbers, electricians, glass installer, etc. These contractors all exhibited the same professionalism and quality of work of ASD. Truly there is no need to work with a 3rd party to plan a remodel with ASD, since they come with a great extensive team as well as design sense for what will be ideal in your space. We are upgrading our 90's bathrooms one piece at a time and ASD did quartz double sink counter tops in both. Alex and Marina provided outstanding customer service throughout the entire process.
