Mt. Joy has been on my list of places to try for a while now. I'm not a chicken sandwich fan so I got hot chicken wings and fries. The fries were good! Nothing fancy, just plain old fries but perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fun sauces to go with. The wings were just okay, maybe a 6/10. The skin was soft rather than crispy (but maybe the to-go container is to blame for that?). Service was fine! You order from a tablet. I do appreciate their locally sourced/sustainable/organic approach to fast food and I admit their "crispy" chicken (sandwich and tenders) seem to be kind of their "thing" so I'll try one of those and a shake next time! Overall I think this unique take on fast food is a good addition to capital hill's neighborhood. read more

OMG HOW DOES MT. JOY TASTE SO GOOD? We are amazed. Visited the food truck earlier and were impressed by the sheer cohesion of your entire brand -- down to the clear signage and well-designed menu. The seating is cozy and we liked looking at the U-section in the middle with the plants. Also like the color palette. Distinct and memorable. The chicken itself is audaciously crisp and yummy, and the ranch sauce is delish. We appreciated the iPad ordering system and the surprise treat, your team is really friendly! Dear Mt Joy, I am so JOYful to have found you! Oh, and parking is clutch too, I was worried I wouldn't find a spot, but love that you have free parking! IN CAP HILL! AMAZEBALLS! Food: I never thought I would like eating a breaded portobello mushroom since I try to be really health conscious but I devoured it like a bear straight out of hibernation. It was crispy and delicious, and flavorful, and all the things. And the fries...OMG...the fries were perfectly crispy, perfectly salted and not greasy. They EVEN REHEATED WELL by popping them in the toaster oven when I got home and having to wait an excruciating 1/2 hour before we could eat, which is a lot to say about fries (don't think I wasn't snagging some of my partner's on the drive home). My partner's maple glazed white chicken sandwich was messy but equally devourable (is that a word?) and he finished his Mexican chocolate milkshake in about 2 seconds flat. Can't wait to come back...it'll be soon but I'll have to limit myself since it's pretty pricy...although I love what the business stands for and how you support sourcing locally and regenerative farming and am happy to pay for the price of business for your mission! First time trying Mt. Joy and we were beyond pleased. I'm super picky about my chicken. I had no issues with the texture. It honestly tasted like a chef just made me a homemade chicken tender. We tried the tenders and the white meat sandwich. The sandwich was huge and full of flavor, but in a natural way. We could taste the ingredients. Highly recommend this place. read more

Grabbed a spicy chicken sandwich and portobello sandwich from here. Mt. Joy is a food truck that sits in this space permanently and has their own little area and seating too. We ordered online and got there like 5 minutes later just in time for pick up. Their chicken is sourced from local farmers and you can even hoose between white meat and dark meat. In my recent efforts to be (slightly) healthier, I chose white meat. Yes I realize that it's a fried chicken sandwich so it's not gonna be great for me but let me have it. It was GREAT. I guess I don't know what the dark meat option tastes like but my sandwich didn't lack anything. Huge sandwich, fried perfectly, sauce dripping down my arms, buns fluffy and veggies to balance it all out. Could definitely also get the little kick from the spice. The portobello one was also great. The fry the portobello in what seems to be the same batter. It's really flat though. Maybe it's been tenderized? So in that sandwich the portobello isn't as central to the sandwich and it just tastes like a generally very yummy veggie sandwich. We also got a seasonal pumpkin shake. Literally felt like I was drinking a nice spiced pumpkin pie. Delicious but HEAVY. read more

Stopped here on my way home from work and had chicken littles, fries, and a shake. The littles are the best I've had anywhere. Very tasty. Order online or at a kiosk in the store. The seating is comfortable, but definitely with fast food in mind I ate at the front window counter and watched people walk by. I love a good fried chicken sandwich so had been excited to hear they opened this location. I ordered one with white meat and one with dark to see which was better, and overall I preferred the white meat. Chicken was a sizeable piece, moist, and had great flavor. The thigh, which I normally prefer, was just too chewy/fatty for my liking. Ordering through the self-kiosk and waiting was efficient, although there was no option to customize your sandwich while ordering (such as removing lettuce or tomato). After waiting in line for Dave's Hot Chicken for an hour with no hopes of eating for another hour or more we decided to try Mt. Joy around the corner. The place was relevantly empty so ordering food and getting our order took less than 10 minutes. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with dark meat and it was very tasty. The piece of chicken itself was large with a crispy breading while the meat itself was juicy and moist. The fries were great as well and go great with the sriracha mayo sauce. I also ordered the Mexican Chocolate shake which was thick and creamy. Definitely give this place 5 stars for the food and the service was nice as well the employees were very friendly and welcoming. read more

I challenge anyone to have a Mt Joy chicken sandwich and claim it isn't delicious. My partner is really into fried chicken sandwiches and he really likes this spot (got the spicy white) The portobello was also very good, probably the best portobello burger I've had, which is kind of surprising for a very chicken-focused restaurant. I also like the Mexican chocolate shake. They source everything relatively locally including their sodas for the soda fountain. It doesn't have the pretentiousness of other restaurants that try to sell you on their sustainability but don't actually deliver on the quality of food. They also don't accept tips--I appreciate a business that has figured out how to deliver good food with well-sourced ingredients, and pays their employees a living wage without relying on tips. TL;DR if you like chicken sandwiches or want to know what a good portobello burger tastes like, come here. read more

I came here after the bar and the food was great. One of the better chicken sandwiches I've had in recent memory. The food was made fresh to order and was pretty quick. The fries were crisp but I wish the portion was a little larger. I don't love that every sauce is a dollar charge regardless of the other things you order. They have the option to queue up your own music which definitely adds to the overall ambiance and dining experience. Tried this place for the first time. Ordered the maple chicken sandwich and the spicy chicken sandwich. My friend has eating here before I have not. His sandwich tasted off compared to what he was used too. Mine was a complete mess. The first bite I took tasted so bad I spit it out. My meal was not edible. It tasted nothing like maple. This is a really good place for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the super high quality of the food. I got the dark meat spicy chicken sandwich and was really excited by how delicious it was. I did not try the shake and am now regretting my shortsightedness. Another bonus for a location on Cap Hill....There is plenty of free parking. Everything about the sandwich was quality starting with the meat, the crisp of the fry was perfect, spicy but not too hot, great fixin's. The food came up very very fast. All around excellent experience. I don't fully understand the environmental benefits of how they source their chicken but it was yummy so I will take their word for it that it's super duper eco special. read more
