First let me say, that donut tasted like a strawberry toaster strudel to me which is my go-to comfort food indulgence and I'm so proud of myself for not hunting this stupid donut down since I've been thinking about for a year now. Anyhoo, I happened to be in the area and had the time, motive, and opportunity to finally stop! It was just like I remembered. I savored every bite. The selection is very impressive. The Boston Kreme filled donuts are my favorite but they have some crazy fritters I want to try next time.

Definitely worth the calories! But I warn you. If you get a jelly filled, you need to not be driving a car and you need a napkin. Make it two napkins. They are freshly made every days. When family comes to visit we always take a drive out to southwick to get a dozen or two. read more

I live close to Mrs. Murphy's Donuts, but only discovered them recently. I had wondered why the nearby Dunkin Donuts was always empty, and now I know. There's just no competition in the area. Thank you Mrs. Murphy for helping me on my quest for type 2 diabetes. The coffee is out of this world. Rich, bold, and just all around delicious. They sell the beans, so grab a bag. The first time I was here, I grabbed a croissant topped with icing and sliced almonds. Light, fluffy, and topped with insanely sweet icing, this was great. Upon getting in my car, I said to myself "I'll just try one bite, then be on my way." I sat there until it was done. The donuts are big, thick, and done just right. I brought a dozen to a work thing, and one guy immediately says "I know exactly where you got those." I was soon to discover that Mrs. Murphy's has been around for a long time, and everybody seems to have been there. A second later, somebody else walks in, points at the box, and goes "Those are the best donuts in the world." I'm going to keep an open mind, and assume that there are better out there, but I have yet to find them. I have also tried the eclair. It's big, and filled with amazing, creamy goodness. One of these days I'm going to try the beautiful cupcakes they have in the display case. Again, they're huge, and quite impressive looking. Early in the morning, there tends to be no wait. If you go in toward noon time, you'll be waiting in line. The service is great, and you'll move up the line quickly. If you're in the area, you have to stop here. Large, cakey, and covered in glazes, Mrs. Murphy's straight-up trailblazes. Sugary, sweet, and so satisfying, Come in and see what the Murph is frying. I was driving to Springfield, saw the sign, and took a hard right. Glad I did, because the doughnuts were great. There were classics such as chocolate glazed, old fashioned, Boston cream, etc. There were also some unique flavors that were a bit more expensive, such as cookies & cream and maple bacon. Ok. Soooo, growing up in California I became used to finding maple-glazed donuts pretty much everywhere donuts were sold. This type of donut was a staple alongside plain, glazed and chocolate-glazed donuts. You could get regular maple-glazed, maple-glazed bars, and old fashioned maple-glazed donuts from grocery stores and the mom and pop shops. So when I first moved to the east coast after college, I assumed I'd find these out here as well, given that I always heard that maple was from around these parts. But when I moved to NJ I was shocked to learn that you couldn't find maple-glazed donuts ANYwhere. Allegedly, Tim Horton's sells them, so on a trip to NY once I found one of these coffee shops at Penn State but they didn't have these donuts that day. I frequented many different donut shops and never found a maple donut. I did find maple bacon donuts but that's not my jam. One day recently at my new job in my new home state of Connecticut, I got into a passionate discussion about maple-glazed donuts with a coworker. He told me about Mrs. Murphy's and how they actually had maple-glazed donuts and weren't too far from where I lived. So when my brother was visiting, we decided to see if this was true. I called the store in advance (I didn't want to risk driving out there if the rumors weren't true) and when I asked the employee answering the phone about maple donuts, she replied "we are out of them right now but we can make some for you, when do you want them?" I couldn't believe my ears. I had her repeat that statement...then I ordered half a dozen. When we arrived we had a box of maple-glazed donuts waiting for us and they were soooo good!! I appreciated the friendly and accommodating service and will definitely be returning. So happy to know that this childhood comfort food of mine is now attainable within 25 minutes! read more

It's like walking into a time warp....ala Back to the Future style, I swear my 17 year old mother is at the countertop waiting to go to the local doowop on a Saturday night. Donuts are great, but only if you hit it right. Don't go too early cuz they're leftover from the day before and don't go too late cuz they're all picked over and if you hit it right prepare for a long wait cuz the logistics of moving people thru is horrible. Some of the workers (really maybe just one) is brutal. If you don't want to be there, quit and go somewhere else is my opinion! When you want a donut for dinner, I guess this is your place... I don't think I've ever held a donut so heavy for its size. Indeed, Mrs. Murphy's are extremely dense - perhaps twice the mass of your typical Dunkin' specimen - and absolutely loaded with Vitamins C, G, and S... Cholesterol, Grease, and Sugar to you folks not up on the nutritional standards for baked goods. Honestly though, that donut was so big, I could only eat half. It was good, and to reiterate, very, very rich. More like a ring-shaped and deep-fried cake than what I usually imagine a donut to be. Well, to each their own. My friend and I were driving up to Blandford ski area when we passed by this donut place. He noted off-hand "oh - that donut place must be good if they've survived next to a dunkin donuts". There was a moment of silence as we passed by the store and drove a bit down the road. Then "do you wanna go?", "HELL YEAH", and we swerved into the next plaza to turn around. It was cash only. There was a line. People were nice. The gentleman in front of me made a few recommendations and basically said you can't go wrong with any of the choices. I forgot what the donut was called, but IT WAS A PILLOW. Sooooo light and fluffy and delicious. I was sad that I would have to pay extra for the bavarian cream so I didn't get it even though that type is my favorite (as in, it couldn't be included in the dozen). I bought a dozen donuts in order to taste as many different kinds of pastries as possible; and surprisingly enough, all of them were the best donuts I've ever had. Unfortunately, the individual waiting on us was not the friendliest, and merchant services was not available. Yes, there is an ATM at the front door which we appreciate, but 'cash-only' is considered an inconvenience to some in this day and age, and especially for those who are going there for the first time (which my spouse and I were). All in all, the donuts are better than dunkin' donuts right across the street and I am excited to go back and get another dozen for cheap. read more

Never a disappointment. Their glazed "cake" style doughnuts are large and have substance. The yeast risen "honeydew" doughnuts are like pillowy rings of goodness. Also: Long Johns. Nuff' Said. I use to go there on my way up to Ct. from Queens, NY. It is a long drive but use to be worth it. I am not sure if they changed hands or not, but last time I was there I was terribly disappointed in the donuts. They use to be filled with filling but this time there was barely any filling in them but alot of donut. They were a bit dry also. They don't have a lot of fancy new flavors, but they have some old ones which can't be replicated. I ordered apple cider donuts on Monday to be picked up on Wednesday via their order ahead drive thru pick up which is their only option right now. They open Wednesday and Sunday mornings only for pick up right now. I'm so disappointed, the donuts are stale like really really stale and dry. Love Mrs. Murpheys donuts! I grew up on them. Every time I go back home I have to stop in. I want to eat all of them. But I usually will get the chocolate covered or chocolate donut. Not Bad at all. They are decent sized. I wouldn't call them as big as your head..... I have seen bigger and tasted better (In Gaithersburg, MD...I just can't recall the name!), but they were a very nice take-home treat! Probably in the top 5 or 10 of all time best donuts. Of the various Mom 'n' Pop type Donut places we have tasted lately, these are nice n soft, not stale (even at the end of the day and the next day, they were still nice and soft!). The Chocolate (cake) Honey Dipped ones almost have a devil's food flavor to them. The (raised) Honey Dipped would almost melt-in-your-mouth.... We were only able to sample a couple of varieties as it was late in the day and they were mostly sold out. The 'sugared' raised donuts were a bit too sweet for my taste. The Coffee roll was a bit disappointing, It was hard and the cinnamon was not very flavor-friendly (was almost a harsh cinnamon). I highly recommend the Coffee Roll at the Donut Dip (W. Springfield) or the Whitney Donut Shop (Hamden, CT). Mrs. Murphy's donuts are not sickly sweet like Krispy Kreme (yuck!), they are nicely done. They are not dripping in grease nor do they leave a bad aftertaste like Dunkin Donuts! I really love the donuts here but the organization on how and when to order gives me anxiety! Let's start with the donuts , they have the classics and then specialty donuts ! For classic donuts the chocolate glazed is definitely a fan favorite in my house , but if you're looking for something more classic the Honey dip is fabulous ! They are pretty big donuts too and taste fresh all the time ! The specialty donuts are fun and change a little every time I go in , we love the maple bacon donut! I mean who doesn't love bacon !? The coffee is good and the bagels are good so all around food and drink are good ! Moving on the way people line up to order is a bit messy there is no line and their are two cash registers at either end of the counter kind of making it a free for all for ordering ! Half the time you're trying to see what specialty donut you want as the next guy is peeking in front of you etc . I would def recommend Mrs Murphy's to start a line so everyone has a better less stressful ordering experience but other than that it's a great spot for dining in, meeting friends for coffee and donuts or grabbing fun donuts for the family at really good prices ! read more

The best donuts EVER!! :-) they are more like little cakes than the typical donut. It's hard to drive by this place without stopping in.

If you like donuts and you are anywhere near here, this is perfect place to stop for caffeine fix and donuts. The place looks like a small house that has been turned into a donut shop. There is a small parking lot which can get crowded. The shop is cute and small with few tables. There is wonderful glass case filed with treats. The donuts are made old fashioned style and has substance to it when you bite into it. There are many varieties however some are higher-priced based on decoration and the type which was little too much for me. The apple fritters and other goodies also looked amazing. I walked away with 1/2 dozen to share with my boys. Will definitely stop in again and try the different ones. Bring cash since they are cash only. They do have one of those ATM but I am kind of weary of those things and why pay $3 in banking fee which is worth 2 donuts. read more
