Cruising through the big city of Southwick, I just had to stop in to this lovely roadside donut shop I was greeted warmly upon walking in, and was immediately served There was a wonderful selection of specialty donuts that I think were separated in two different showcases. I had to try the s'mores donut. And the showcase towards the back wall displayed all the regular donuts at $17 a dozen I also ordered a dozen of those donuts The s'mores donut was really fresh with the exception of the graham cracker topping, which was stale, not crunchy. The different flavors of it really popped with the exception of said graham cracker. This was really good. Now the dozen regular donuts... I started with the spiced powdered doughnut that was absolutely stunning delicious with the different flavors, exploding in my mouth, created such an enjoyable experience The chocolate covered donut, another fresh donut made that morning, and it just popped I shared the rest of the donuts with my neighbors Mrs. Murphy's donuts is operating on a weird schedule. This was our first time trying Mrs. Murphy's Donuts, and we were pleased. Everything was fresh, the service was quick, and the staff was kind and welcoming. The donuts were very reasonably priced and delicious. We also tried the egg sandwiches, they were huge, made to order, and really hit the spot. The coffee was fantastic. It was smooth and flavorful, a perfect complement to the breakfast. My only minor complaint was the cheese danish, which had a flavor more like butterscotch than cheese, which I wasn't expecting. I have been a donut dip guy for my entire life. However, I'm from Southwick area after coming home from the casino. I decided to stop and check this place out for the second time in my lifetime but the first in the new reopening. I don't think I'm a snob but certainly a donut connoisseur lol and I love local businesses, but I'm always happy to give honest feedback regardless of my experience. But I am glad to say that from someone who has had everything from Krispy Kreme to independent donut shops across the country. While a bit out of the way for us (Springfield, MA), this is still a favorite. Everything they make seems fresh and well made. There is a good selection to choose from and my kids are always trying something different. The staff are friendly and keep it feeling very inviting. It's a cool looking place and the inside is never crowded, despite how busy they often are. The parking lot can be chaotic, but that's nothing too off putting. My only gripe (if I had to have one) would be that the coffee is not at the same level as everything else here. It's good, especially compared to other donut places I've been in the past, but it's nothing special. My wife usually has me drive through the dunkin nearby for coffee, but Ms Murphy's are the only donuts that matter to her and the kids. read more

But I live about 45 minutes away, and its Southwick, MA location is not near anything I ever visit. I finally found time and visited this Sunday morning around 6:30 am. (It's funny how easy it is to find time that early). The shop has a country feel and family service vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if the shop looked basically the same 10 years ago. Or 20 years ago. 30 or even 40 years ago. It's old school, but clean and comfortable. I ordered about 7 different donuts, etc. The apple fritter was terrific. Checked all the boxes. Knobby texture with crispy parts on the outside. Fresh and soft inside. Plenty of apple pieces. Tasty glaze. A top tier apple fritter. I also tried the maple bacon donut. Very fresh. Tasty maple icing. Good bacon pieces. Another winner. I also ordered a Honey Dew, because I was told it's one of their signature donuts. It had a light glaze. It was very fresh, but I wouldn't order it again. Truthfully, I never order donuts like this. Just not my style. I thought I should try it since it's a signature. You may like it, if it's your style. Stopped by early for morning donuts. I personally find the drive-thru setup they have to be extremely useful and easy. Drive in, drive out. They also accept credit cards now. We were in the area so very excited to stop and get what had always been the best donuts ever. But. Now days there's always a bit. The original owners no longer run it and their kids took over. Now it's just so so. You could tell many of the donuts we purchased seemed day old not fresh stale. Nothing like they once were. COVID-19 era review: since covid can't stop donut cravings, we finally made our way up here! Mrs. Murphy's cute donut shack is closed...but the generous parking lot has happily been turned into a drive-thru. It was a 20 minute wait in the long line of cars, so don't go ravenous if you can't get there early. Snap shot the dry-erase menu on the drive thru booth, and try to go early if you want apple fritters ("sold out by 7:30" said the kind lady taking our order) as she went but no worries, cinnamon donuts were a stellar down home substitute. 10:15 Sunday began a 20 minute wait, but a mixed half dozen was only $10 and change, and the donuts lived up to their glorious reputation. In addition to their traditional donut flavors they also have some fun decorated donuts that are designed to look like they have faces on them. They also have a limited menu of additional pastry and food options as well. Additionally they have seating inside, and a small portion of the place is set up like a casual diner counter where you can sit order with a waitress. I am not sure if they are cash-only or not since they had an ATM inside, but I just paid with cash without asking about a credit card option. I opted to go for their honeydew donut and a latte. The donut was large and had a very good consistency, but I would have preferred a little more frosting as it was a little dry. It took a couple minutes for them to make my latte, as the person who took my order did not know how to work the espresso machine (...hmm...), but when it was prepared it was delicious. Additionally they had a lot of different flavors that I could add to my latte. I decided to go with a caramel flavor, but they added a little too much flavoring for my liking. 8/10 read more

Went today on day 3 of in-store opening! Covid restrictions have long been over but this was possibly the last place (besides DMV), to keep everyone out and forced you to use the drive-thru as a less than ideal experience. Anyhow, the positives were nice young cheery kids running the front end and they now have a POS system to use cards! It was somewhat busy but the lines moved quickly. You can leave fast unless you order a coffee or breakfast sandwich, which kind of throws them off for whatever reason. They ran out of some "hot" donut items 2 hrs before close. I am not sure how you run out of the requested items you only sell but no worries. The sad part for us was the donuts. Mind you, a few were ok and tasted "fresh", like recently made. But the rest, not so much. They tasted slightly stale with an old oil taste. They reminded me a lot of when Whole Donut and Dunkin stopped making in-store donuts and outsourced them to be made elsewhere. Kind of like day old or two-day old donuts that were left on the shelf for day 3 opening, it showed. Sadly, after this, we will not make the trek out to Mrs anymore and will stay more local and maybe find a new spot. Not sure if they changed owners or the owners tried to cut some new corners. Mrs. Murphy's Donuts was a staple growing up in the Pioneer Valley for some of the best donuts I've had (including my travels outside of the Western Mass area). The donuts are rich, thick and almost like a delicious "cake-like" consistency. Absolutely delectable. The best flavors in my opinion are the cinnamon and the chocolate donuts. Everything is good, but you can't go wrong with either of those options. Be sure to get there in the morning to have them while they're hot! Oh, and here's a little secret. I used to fly back to California with a dozen of Mrs. Murphys donuts in my carry on to bring back, to feel a "little closer to home" whenever visiting from college. Elite tip: Some of the other reviews said it was cash only, but when I went in today I noticed they accepted credit cards. Although cash is king, it was a nice surprise to see they take plastic. Oh. Wow. I was blown away by the quality donuts here. Everything is so fresh and dense and HUGE. These donuts are monstrous. Do not come here if you're watching your diet. This will always be my go-to doughnut place and my in-the-back-pocket recommendation for anyone looking for a legit breakfast treat. There's no mistaking these doughnuts in taste or appearance. The big, white boxes (you'll get that many, rest assured) with Irish designs. The sizable rings that are the only size doughnuts should be like the good ol' days. No frills--just good, delicious flavor for each type. Mrs. Murph's doesn't need to jazz up her well-known creation to get people to come and get it. My absolute favorite is the chocolate; you can't go wrong at all with this flavor, but really all of the flavors here are amazing. No artificial taste, no weird frosting design, no weird flavor as a gimmick. These are solid, old-fashioned, wholesome doughnuts at a very reasonable price. I live nowhere near here, but I make a point to visit periodically because it's a good treat that my whole family loves time and again. Now, I've always pointedly timed it so I don't have to deal with crowds. But my worst fear came true on my most recent visit on a Saturday morning. It's insane--to put it lightly--here at peak times. Honestly though, the staff got everyone moving and doughnut-filled within an extremely reasonable time. Each and every time, I get exactly what I want and in a timely manner.
