I stopped by Smyth's Ice Cream in Enfield because it was highly recommended ice cream in the area. This was a very busy ice cream spot. There was a long line waiting to place their order. They have a pretty nice list of hard ice cream flavors, and some soft serve. I got the pistachio. My mom got the soft serve chocolate, and it was a lot. The chocolate looked like three scoops, plenty for two to share. I have to say I was very disappointed in my pistachio flavor. First, the green color looked very artificial, obviously there's food coloring added here, next it was very hard, thirdly it tasted nothing like pistachio ice cream. It's basically green vanilla ice cream. I did appreciate the random chunks of pistachio through my scoop. The one scoop was a generous size. But does that matter when it's not very good? I did try the soft serve chocolate, that was better, but not the best chocolate I've ever had. I wasn't impressed by Smyth's Ice Cream, but it could be that I picked an off flavor. Based on my experience, I can't recommend getting ice cream here. read more

This is a truly spectacular local ice cream stand down by "grocery store row" in Enfield. There is almost always a line from 6:00-9:00 on any summer weekend and a strong showing on week nights too. Their ice cream is fantastic and they offer the whole lot: hard, soft serve, hard yogurt, soft serve yogurt, sorbet, and sugar and lactose free ice creams. They have the usual range of toppings and offer their own version of the "blizzard" as well as sundaes, milkshakes, floats, hand packed pints, ice cream sandwiches and cakes. They also offer chocolate, strawberry, peanut butter and butterscotch dips, rainbow and chocolate sprinkles and toasted almond shavings like those on the classic Good Humor Bar. Their sundaes can NOT be beat. They are very generous with the toppings, drowning that ice cream with hot fudge and fresh--yes that's right--FRESH whipped cream. I particularly like their fluffernutter sundae which is overflowing with peanut butter sauce and marshmallow creme. The friendly staff moves the line along quickly and they accept cash and cards without getting annoyed in the least when you hand over your plastic (as I've experienced before with "stands"). It has a great taste you can tell they do put plenty of ice cream in the milkshake unlike some places. Which ever flavor you get will be very flavor full and delicious.
