It is one of my favorite foods to have on a relaxing evening with a glass of wine but I have ordered 3x and the rolls are very sloppy, the conventional way of making classic rolls are not made right. A Philadelphia roll is made with smoked salmon and that just throws the whole taste off beside the roll being messy. I ordered several other rolls and they just didn't taste right. I soo wish that we had good sushi delivery but I am sorry, I can't say this place is worth a taste. 1/2 of my rolls went in the garbage :(. read more

I love this place! They left a menu on our doorstep so my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Bento Box & my boyfriend ordered the Yaki Udon Noodles. He loves all kinds of sushi and I personally only like sweet potato sushi (I know odd) so that made it difficult to find a place that did this. Well after driving for alittle we found Mr.Sushi! He ran in grabbed a menu and we started flipping through it. Their prices are great! You're definitely getting more than what you pay for and the quality is out of this world. They also send coupons out every month proving they actually care about their customers. The service is 10/10. There's a young man named Ian and he made our experience great. Mr. Sushi has been and most likely always will be my GO-TO for sushi in North Jersey. I'll set the scene... Parking on the street on Wanaque Ave is often pretty easy (with meters). If not there is parking on Lenox Ave by the Police Station or in the Circle A Convenience Store Lot. The place, which just got a new sign, is about the size of most standard/average bedrooms. It's set with a big aisle down the center and tables along both sides. Easy to add together for groups- also booths. As soon as you enter the Sushi Chefs and Staff often greet you with a great big HELLO! It's always pleasant. They seat you rather fast and where-ever you want. There is no bar or alcohol. BUT like my favorite restaurants- it's BYOB. Liquor Stores are down the street on the right side ("Discount"). Usually get through a few bottles of wine. My standard orders consist of the Miso Soup (which I swear is better than all other places I've had it), House Salad with a Ginger Dressing (which is UNBELIEVABLE and I can't seem to find it exactly anywhere else), and then several rolls. Standard favorites are Cali, Spicy Tuna (sometimes as a hand roll), Spicy Salmon, Eel/Avocado, Philly, Boston, Tuna Sashimi, and a few others. What I really love here is the Special Rolls. They are really creative. Some of my favorites are the Chef Special, Pompton Special, Godzilla, Valentine, Crazy Dragon, and others. All while sipping on some good Rieslings and Green Tea. Love sushi and don't seem to have an off switch so unsurprisingly no Dessert. But I think they do have some. You will leave stuffed, your tastebuds satisfied and tingling, a smile on your face, and not too big of a hole in your wallet (depending on how big your eyes are). I hate to be the one to give this 4.5 out of 5 star establishment a 2 star rating but the 2 stars are for the friendly service, and it's probably because they know they are screwing you, the spicy tuna rolls were half filled with cucumbers, totally skimped out, wtf is up with that shit?! I've never seen that before, also the lobster tower I ordered wasn't appetizing at all, and I couldn't care less about the stuffed jalapeño , none of the 4 items we ordered were good. And i'm absolutely pissed off about this because down the street in riverdale there's a Chinese restaurant that use to sell the best sushi but now they are struggling a bit and have taken the sushi off of their menu... and I bet partially due to this place being open, it's a disgrace. I went here on a Wednesday night. The restaurant is very small and since it was a Wednesday night, seating was not an issue. I wonder how crowded it would get over the weekend though. The inside decor is cute--a melange of pictures hanging up and brightly painted walls. The drop ceiling style tiles are painted a dark shade...that kind of weirded me out. Instead, I'd rather see pristine white ceiling tiles and know that the place in which I am eating is super clean. Our waiter was accommodating and even though we got to the restaurant around 8:30 and were the last table there for quite a while, he still kindly dealt with us. The food was average. I got a seaweed salad and then ordered salmon/avocado roll and eel roll. The temperature of the food could have been a tad bit colder. I also ordered tempura fried ice cream for dessert. Nothing was wrong with the food, but nothing was particularly phenomenal either. The total for two people came to 44 dollars... excluding tip. The food was good and I don't have any significant complaints, but I don't think I'd go back. I live pretty far from this place and there's plenty of other sushi restaurants in the Morris county/beyond area. read more

Understanding life in the Covid age gets hectic, and wanting to support local we called and said "no worries , we can pick it up." Get there 30 minutes later and our order hadn't even been started. I decided to stop in here for lunch after a quick workout in the gym down the road. It's an unassuming place, but I figured I'd try it after seeing the good reviews. I sure am glad I did, cuz this place is a diamond in the rough. Looking over their menu, I was surprised at the variety of foods they served. They have everything from bi-bim-bap (for those who don't know, a Korean staple) to Pad Thai, to fried rice. Plenty of specialty rolls as well, and all at good prices. I decided to keep it simple and got a seaweed salad and an avocado roll. The seaweed salad came over a bed of thinly sliced cucumber. It was sweeter than most, but I definitely enjoyed it. The avocado roll was AWESOME, up there with the best of the best. Nice soft, ripe avocado with perfectly cooked room-temperature rice (its a pet peeve of mine to get served sushi with cold rice). I would go back just for the avocado roll. I ended the meal with a single piece of green tea mochi for $3. The ambiance is nothing special, which makes it seem all the more endearing. It has the feel of a cute, family owned place. On the wall hung pictures of regulars, and shirts you can buy for $20 to get 10% off your bill every time. One thing I didn't understand was the music choice. It alernated between k-pop, traditional Japanese, and American hip-hop such as Trey Songz "Na Na" (put your hands in the air if you're [lovin'] tonight). A little confusing, but entertaining nonetheless. I got 2 sushi rolls, the amount of fish was very minimal and the red sauce on the extra spicy tuna roll was weird, looked like sriracha but tasted weird like sweet or vinegary. $38 plus tip - such a waste. There's not many sushi places around this area so Mr. Sushi is usually a go to spot for my boyfriend and I when we're craving some good Japanese food. This past weekend I was craving soondubu and according to their website, they have soondubu on their menu. I was super excited to go because in the past their service is great and their sushi is fresh too, but when we got there I was so disappointed to find that they don't have it. What's the point of putting it on your menu online and falsely advertise please update your website if you don't serve that anymore. 3 stars for my experience this past weekend. Inside is relatively small and the take out customers walk right through the restaurant. This is an obvious flaw that should be fixed one day. As for the food. As an outsider, I was very impressed with the quality of sushi. Since my girlfriend and I went around noon, we took advantage of their great lunch special. One is able to choose an appetizer, salad, and sushi roll for $8.99, and a second roll for $3 more. I chose the vegetable egg rolls, house salad, and the spicy tuna/spicy salmon rolls. Although the salad was DRENCHED in salad dressing, the dressing was very good. The egg rolls were crunchy and flavorful, and the sushi rolls were awesome! The fish was very fresh and the cucumber added the necessary crunch and flavor to the roll. My only complaint was the service. At a 12-table restaurant during lunch time, I'd expect the waiter to be a little more attentive. I thought an update would be good to add to my review from 2009 especially since my tastes are a lot different now! I've graduated from super plain rolls to awesome deliciously complicated rolls. The Mr. Sushi roll is still my favorite roll ever. I have since discovered that it is also called a naruto roll. Mr. Sushi makes it better than any other place that I've tried (and I've been to many sushi places since 2009!). Their sashimi is also fantastic. I usually have a hard time with the texture of sashimi but not at Mr. Sushi. The guys behind the sushi bar are terrific. They not only make fabulous sushi but they have great attitudes while doing it. I love that Mr. Sushi continues to expand on their roll selection. The last time I was there (Feb. 2013) they added even more variety to the no rice rolls which is great if you're on a diet. We tried the taxi cab roll which is wrapped in mango instead.
