So good! Taka is easily my favorite sushi restaurant in North Jersey. This place has not changed at all in the last 25 years, and the quality of the food has stayed just as great. The list of specialty rolls is massive, like four pages long, so there really is something for everyone. My personal favorites are the ISO roll and White Angel roll. I first went to Taka when I worked at the Brownstone about 20 years ago and I would go pickup sushi for when people chose it for their parties. This is the only menu item that the Brownstone didn't make themselves, but that's another review. Taka has the best sushi around. It's mine and my wife's favorite. You used to be able to go there and eat in. We would go for their lunch special which comes with a delicious soup and salad. The service was always good. The sushi is freshly prepared using good ingredients and the prices are very reasonable. I've never had a bad experience or been disappointed with that food here. Stayed in the area for a business trip and was looking for a quick dinner after getting into town. Taka was in a convenient location close to hotel. Expecting a quick dinner, and that's far from what I got. Upon arrival was quickly greeted but did not get sat. Host later came back and asked which order was mine, obviously not there for take out. Was then sat, server brought menu and drinks promptly but then I sat and waited for 15 minutes to place my order. Server took was friendly, took my order and then came back five minutes later and asked me what I ordered. Yikes. Received my appetizer of shumai and my sushi order all at the same time. I will say that due my frustration at this point it seemed like the food took long, but it was probably a reasonable amount of time. Food was good but small rolls, well made with a nice presentation. Finished my food and they cleared the table and again waited to receive my check. It it wasn't for the excessive waiting I would have given a better rating. I would give this restaurant 10 stars if I could. Upon walking in, I was greeted by the waitress and was seated very quickly. I had a party of 4 so we sat at the booths. There was a wide variety of options to choose from which is great because that means there is something for everyone; sushi lovers or not. When ordering, the waitress was helping me pick out which rolls to get because I don't enjoy eating raw sushi. She suggested the dancing shrimp roll, and the snow white roll. The specials on the menu are always changing and Taka makes an effort to offer the freshest ingredients with a twist, sometimes incorporating fruits and unique sauces into their dishes. Went in with high expectations and was disappointed. Walked in and thought that the restaurant was closed because literally no one was there... The interior design is very old and needs to be updated ASAP cause it looks pretty dusty. The waitress was nice at first but then was pretty rude, she was on the phone while she attended us and we didn't know if she was talking to us or the person on her headphones. She pushed us to order an appetizer, the spicy tuna dumpling, and it was good but we didn't like how brute she was when she came to split the food between us 3 like if we were children while talking on the phone. I ordered the Taka House Roll, my mom ordered the salmon teriyaki plate and my sister order the ISO roll. My mom's salad was definitely not fresh and looked like it was in the fridge for a week. Our sushi seemed fresh and it came out on the plate looking nice, between our appetizer and sushi it filled us up. The ISO roll was definitely the better of the two rolls. We took some sushi and salmon home and I tried to eat it the next day and it was pretty bad and stale, so I do not recommend taking any of their food home. read more

Heard some good things about it here so we gave it a try on this stormy night! It's a basic store front type restaurant that it byob. It was cozy. The severs were friendly and asked us if it was our first time there and how we heard about them which most places don't bother to ask so that was a good start. I also love the warm towels they give you to clean your hands. We started with the miso soup which was great. Not too salty and great amount of tofu. We shared the spicy Kani salad. It was ok not great. A little lacking in flavor.i don't think we would get it again. Our rolls were very good. The only one we didn't care for was the spicy tuna, again a bit bland. We had a Wayne roll which was delicious and a Boston roll and the sweet potato roll which were very good. I would certainly get those three again. Taka sushi is a gem. Super fresh super delicious and cozy atmosphere. Was there last night for the first time for dinner and everything was delicious. It was a quiet night and it was so nice to basically have the place to ourselves. Of note: the jazz music was on point it was the first thing my husband complimented. The kumoto oysters are to die for. I had the sashimi appetizer. scallop roll and yellow tail roll, my daughter ordered salmon sushi and salmon cucumber roll and my husband had the salmon teriyaki.
