Its pretty clean and well kempt too. Took about 30mins to get order ready for pickup but understandable since i didnt really see a lot of staff. Sushi was fresh and tasted pretty good. We had the Takei special but I feel like ive tried those before (from other places) so wasnt really surprised. I was looking for something new or creative so im hoping to try more from the menu especially from the specials. Place has been here for a long time and for good reason. Friday night....dead except for one table and a few takeout orders. Could tell that all were regulars. That was a bit alarming as good sushi joints are usually mobbed on the weekends. The owners are very nice and accommodating. On our first trip to any sushi spot we usually order 10-15 of their specialty rolls in order to try everything and get a sense for their breath of creativity. These were good. The only two themes I noticed were several of the rolls contained apple slices and more rolls than normal had some spicy feature. Repetitive. I could have used a bit more creativity. But, overall it was a good meal at a very reasonable price (based on the average per-roll prices you see in 2023). We'd go back. read more

I recently tried their regular combo of sushi and thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't dined in the actual restaurant yet, but the place seems vibrant and roomy. So good, and so affordable! This place is amazing. Some people have said it's a hole in the wall... There is still some construction in the building next door, but the restaurant itself is finished inside and there's a decent amount of seating. Also, there is waiter service. I've only gotten take out, but the people leaving after having sit down service looked happy. Over all the restaurant is clean, friendly, affordable, and has delicious sushi. I got the spicy salmon roll, Tokyo roll, and sunflower roll. They were all very good, but I recommend the sunflower roll the most. It's unique, and delicious. I've come here twice now with co-workers, and we're so happy to have a good sushi place nearby! The online menu is not totally up to date so when you stop in, just make sure you take a menu to go. Also, you cannot order online (anymore). Calling in is convenient. I think the person I've talked to on the phone both times was the owner. She is very kind and makes sure to repeat your order to make sure she's gotten everything. The prices are reasonable and the quality is worth returning for. Right now, the restaurant literally looks like a hole in the wall from the outside because of construction around it. It's also a little difficult to spot because the name is not on the window. Even if it was, it would not be called Takei Sushi. It's now called Bamboo Sushi. The first time we ordered, we were given complimentary mochi. The second time, we were given complimentary edamame and V. Special Roll (specialty roll). We were more than pleased and will definitely be returning many times. read more

Takei Sushi is a frequent to go spot for my friends to enjoy sushi. The angry dragon roll was AMAZINGLY Delicious. The seafood soup was lite and tasty, and the seaweed salad was served perfect. What I will say that stuck out more than anything was the service. Unfortunately, there was one thing that I did not like, so they tried very hard to accommodate. Was looking for a new "go to" sushi restaurant and unfortunately I will have to continue my search. The complementary miso soup and edamame were a good touch if they were actually good. The soup was bland and the edamame seem like they were served right from the refrigerator, way too cold to eat. We ordered 2 appetizers (shumai and octopus salad) can definitely go back for those. We then ordered 4 rolls to try and only liked one of them. Not sure why the menu states certain rolls have "special seaweed on the outside" when it's soy paper...haven't seen that in any other sushi restaurants. The fish was fresh but the rolls were also a little bland. We tried to ask for Sriracha sauce but the service was non existent. She came to take our order, bring the food and then we had to call for the check (and I mention this only because we were the only people there) How do you not attend the only table you have to serve? read more

Big fan of this place. The restaurateurs are a husband-and-wife team who work very well together; he makes the sushi and she is the hostess. They are very nice people and they really give the place a warm and inviting feel. Before COVID-19, the restaurant was very busy. Driving by, if you were to blink you might miss it, because it really is almost a "hole-in-the-wall" establishment in a nondescript shopping plaza. But inside the ambience is nice and while it is not extremely fancy it is just right. My girlfriend and I have been here many times and just about every single time we had a very good experience. We always BYOB. There have been maybe a couple of times when the food was not "excellent" but those times are overshadowed by the generally superior quality sushi. My only "minor" complaint is that they need to have a little more ginger and soy sauce on their "COVID-19" takeout menu. Just those two times the rice seemed slightly undercooked or dry, but this is a small sample out of a dozen or more great experiences. My usual sushi go to for all you can eat has been closed since covid-19 pandemic hit NJ so I have been looking for sushi restaurants with good deals on my filling sushi meal needs. Takei Bamboo Sushi was a great find. I ordered the Takei Special under their Sushi Combination section of the menu. Unfortunately the online menu is outdated and it was $59.95 as shown on the paper menu they gave me with my order, instead of $49.95 shown online. 26 pieces of sushi that happened to be some of my favorites. Quality, taste and size were great! No cheaper pieces like egg (Tamago) or pieces I don't like such as mackerel or Ikura. Came with a California roll and Sunrise Roll which has orange & (fake?) crab which was surprisingly good. They threw in a shrimp tempura roll, I believe to make up for the difference in price & content from the web site to the current price. The web site showed dragon roll instead of the sunrise roll. Also came with 4 small coffee cup size of miso soup and a pint of edamame & plenty of soy sauce in little plastic condiment cups. The soup leaked a bit during transport home but the napkins provided helped soak it up. I look forward to ordering again at least until my go across the train tracks reopens. Takei has just reopened, and it's still my favorite place to get sushi! It is by far the best tasting sushi you can get for the price. They do a lot of interesting rolls with fruit in them that are really good - I'd recommend all of them. Me and my boyfriend needed a new sushi place so we tried this based on all of the other good reviews. the people were nice and there were a lot of regulars there that seemed to be happy so that was encouraging, but we didn't have good service at all. we weren't brought menus, it took a while for someone to even come over to us, we ordered drinks that never came; we felt ignored. the actual food was ok. the fish seemed pretty fresh so that was good. i appreciated that they give you tea and soup with your order. Even the packaging was labeled so that each of us in the office knew who had what. I don't think they deliver, but I'm not sure since 1 of us from the office went out to get it. Given menus promptly and some STRONG green tea to accompany us while we browse the menu. We settled on some classics (shrimp tempura, California roll, spicy tuna etc), In addition we tried a * Sam Roll. After ordering complementary miso soup and edamame were given to us. So far so good.
