A Nostalgic Return That Still Hits Right This place used to be one of my favorites back in high school, and I hadn't been in a while. With everything going on and spending a lot of time at the hospital with my daughter, I decided to stop in for a little nostalgia. And I'll say this -- it delivered. The staff was friendly, but not overbearing. It gave me that old-school Mayberry feel -- like you know your waitress, she's kind, warm, maybe reminds you of an auntie... but you also know not to push her too much . It felt familiar in a good way. Now, I'll be honest -- the only thing that stood out to me was the lettuce in my salad had a little browning on it. That's just a personal thing for me. It didn't affect the flavor, and it wasn't bad enough to ruin the experience or drop the rating, but it's worth mentioning. The biggest challenge here is the hours -- they can be a little hit or miss, so you've got to plan ahead if you want to catch them open. I've never tried their pies, which I hear they're known for. I'm just never in the mood for pie when I go. So if you try one, let me know how it is. Overall, it was a good return visit. It was very slow when we were there and it took awhile to get our food, and I think it was because of DoorDash/online orders. Ok so I was very reluctant to coming here due to its history but husband wanted to try it so I braved it. First impression was pleasant with a welcoming hello from the person at the register. We were seated right away although the very short time we were standing waiting to be seated was greated 3 times by different people acknowledging our presence. You can tell right away this is their "usual" spot for many elderly locals. Maybe they offer a senior discount? It had that home feel and sound aa people were coming and going. The menu -- nothing special - very traditional comfort food :) that fills the hungry belly but the service was really good. Our person was Shawana - middle aged Caucasian woman that didnt smile once HOWEVER her body language was friendly, attentive and honesty - comforting :) Kinda like how an Auntie will try to feed you when you come visit. I found this joint on my birthday as I was out of town and visiting my brother in Sac. This one was the closest to our rental and looked like a promising American breakfast place. It's not fancy or anything like that so good to stop by and have a delicious meal. It was also fairly clean.. they had a woman cleaning while we were there. The waitress was sweet and we were seated fairly quickly. Pricing is reasonable and there is plenty of seating. It's an older looking restaurant but def did the trick for my family and I. The waitress also blessed my kids w a sundae which was great. There was a mistake on my order but honestly I did not mind. She corrected and brought my food quickly. I've gone two times in the last month with a party of three and each time there was no wait to sit. The staff was very kind and attentive to our tables needs. The food came rather quickly, was hot and delicious. I personally had the waffle. It was just right with crispy edges and a soft center in the middle. I would highly recommend this as a food option. The only turnoff was the homeless guy sitting in the front of the door, that everyone just seemed to walk past. This was a standard breakfast restaurant. The food got the job done breakfast-wise but it was nothing to rave home about. I had the French Connection which came with French toast, eggs, canned peaches, and bacon or sausage (or you can do half and half). Where has this place been all my life? Ok, a bit melodramatic, but good breakfast at a restaurant is one of my favorite meals to go out for...and Sacramento is severely lacking in that department. This is very old school....we went after my wife's doctors appointment, and we were probably the youngest people there. Nothing wrong with that, as it was 9:00 am on a weekday morning. Old school generic American restaurant vibe (and again, not said as a negative). Now, then, onto the food... I ordered way too much. I was hungry, and as previously mentioned, loved to try out new (to me) breakfast places. On a recommendation from our amazing server, I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, with a side of "tiny" (not really) pancakes. My wife ordered sausage and eggs. The eggs were scrambled perfectly, but...the chicken fried steak was pretty incredible. It stayed hot for so long, as well. I wish the pancakes had been a little warmer, but oh well. Her sausages were just as good (to her), and we left with full bellies (and too much food left on the table). Sadly, over the next few weeks, we will be in this area many mornings for medical appointments, but the good news is I believe we found our new breakfast spot. read more

We used to enjoy coming here, but the new ownership is definitely not working. We went for lunch and the service was incredibly slow--our meals took so long to arrive that it completely ruined the experience and we couldn't even enjoy our food. Went today with hubby for brunch. The waitress saw us but took a turn to greet the seated customers. After 5 minutes, we were told to pick a table, and she'll give us the menu later. After placing our order and delivering our food, waitress NEVER came back to check on us. We needed refills and I was missing my toasts. I was so thirsty I was eating the ice. When checking out, same waitress closely watched me to see if I left a tip. Needless to say, I left no tip. I really miss the diners in New York City. Mr. Perry's came up when I searched "diners" so it was time to give them a try. We got here about 7:50am on Friday morning. It was quiet with few customers. The parking lot was empty with handful of cars. We were greeted right away and the server told us to sit anywhere we like. The menu is extensive but we wanted breakfast. We went for the "Sunrise Specials" which was served every day from 6-8am for $7.99. Woah, I think McDonald's big breakfast cost more than that. I got the Pancake Breakfast, which came with one pancake, two eggs any style, one bacon strip or one sausage link, hashed browns or country potatoes. It wasn't a huge portion but a good amount of food for me. I couldn't finish it. Everything tasted okay. The eggs and bacon tasted good. I didn't care for the hash browns. It wasn't crispy or browned like I had hoped for. The pancakes was like something that came from a box that you make at home. It wasn't bad - it was very generic! The place can use some updating and refresh. Server was nice. She took our orders quickly, food came out in about 15 minutes and we were out the door under 50 minutes. Haven't been here in forever! I was in town and was craving brunch foods so decided to take my siblings here. Three people and no wait! It looks like they renovated the inside so it looks a lot more modern with their booths. Food is still the same! I ordered the eggs Benedict - Hollandaise sauce is bomb! My sister ordered the eggs and ribeye which came with toast or biscuits and she chose the biscuit and really enjoyed it. My brother ordered the country fried steak which he said was okay. Price is average to a little higher per entree but I think service is good and they are really nice here. Before I continue I would like to say I have worked in the service industry from fine dining in Monterey to Chili's in Stockton ca ... I'm not expecting too much from an old school type diner ... but - we weren't greeted or seated We had to wave a woman down and then she told us to sit where ever, it's pretty big so we chose an area that already had patrons in it , BIG MISTAKE apparently her and the other server who was helping the table next to us have some issues. Tension was heavy ! We tried to ask open ended questions and she wasn't really helping ... which is understandable if you're quiet or shy , but definitely not if you're in service and sales ... we wanted to try so much . Bummer . I really wanted to like this place . The food came out fast ... wasn't what I expected maybe that's a me issue. I know they have cameras there maybe the owners of the establishment can watch and see how much customer service and hospitality is lacking at this establishment. Where to start, well the General manager was assisting and assessing the normal operations. The waiters do talk loud for the hard of hearing and they have all kinds of options. I took my mom and aunt in a mother's days brunch and ended here. I am not too thrilled about this place from my last visit but the food did do its thing. I just need more attention when ordering about preferences and get rid of the hot chocolate. The juice is good quality and the pancakes are good. The hash browns need to be browner tho and skillet can be hotter and more cheese. After 75 dollars later I wanted half of a refund. However, the waiter at the front made me feel welcoming. read more

A local, old, reliable establishment, obviously! It was our first time there. I was delighted to see so many regulars greeted by name and acknowledged by the staff. The eggs and grits were just fine. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The grits nothing special, but I enjoyed them with some butter and bacon sprinkled in. My coffee mug was large and always full, although the coffee seemed a bit weak. I used to go to Mr. Perry's a lot before the beginning of Covid. As a matter of fact, my dad loved to go when I was little, back in the 70's, before we went to visit family in the central valley. Well, my mom wanted seafood and suggested we come here. Oh my, I still love this place! There seems to be so many more and different items. But, many of the same as well. I had a T-bone steak that came with soup, salad and a potato. It was soooo good!! My mom had the seafood platter and my son chicken and waffles. It was ALL good and filling!
