There are few restaurants that I have been that are worse than this one. I ordered the country Benedict . The gravy over the biscuits was very pasty, & bland! Not even hot sauce could help it become eatable. The sausage was burnt black, & made of mostly fat. No spices in the sausage at all. The eggs were plopped on top of everything with a heavy bed of grease. The portions were very huge. We should have just left but we stayed. I am always looking for good biscuits & gravy. Still looking! I mean I am always disappointed, but this was the worse! I would like to find a restaurant that makes gravy at less as good as I do at home. My girlfriend had eggs, ham & hash browns. Her eggs were also served in a bed of grease. The ham was a very generous portion. The knife they handed her had a disgusting ring of krud around the handle. The ambiance of the place was one that screamed locals only. The many pictures on the wall emphasized family, friends & community with religious symbols on the wall. That's all good but not welcoming to passersby who looked on Yelp to find breakfast. I've come to the conclusion that one should turn around & leave when every head turns to look at you when you walk into a restaurant. Not is a welcoming way but in a way that makes you feel like a stranger in a strange land. The staff were loud & carried on as though one else mattered in their world. At least one of them carried on with a very loud phone conversation on speaker that they wanted everyone else present to hear. This is one of those places where you wish you left before the food arrived. In summary, the gravy was the absolute worst I ever had. On the positive side it would make a great wallpaper glue. The sausage was fatty & burnt. The biscuits were OK, but I've have better out of a can. The eggs, too greasy! The ham was good. Our dog is getting the best part of the breakfast me & my girlfriend paid 40 dollars for. Oh & I left no tip. I am normally a very generous tipper. I in fact always tip, even if I don't like to food. But we were an afterthought to the staff. If fact I say we were nuisance On the positive side the coffee was very good. I had 3 cups. So I recommend you stay away. Honestly we came here for breakfast at 9am and ended up with burgers! while the breakfast menu sounds great and they have all the options you'd expect out of breakfast, my boyfriend and I came here right before going on a long hike about an hour out and we needed the extra protein boost. The burgers were way bigger than expected, they were perfectly cooked and so good. At $12 with either fries or onion rings, I didn't expect this place to have such great burgers! I got my burger substituted with sourdough bread. Make sure to ask for ketchup and mustard because they do not come with any sauce besides mayo. and the service was so awesome! read more

Delicious home style cooking with very large portions. Located in a very easy to miss tiny parking lot that provides parking in the rear but the main entrance and the complete other side of the building it can be easy to miss this spot. Once inside there are a few seats right at the bar countertop then the remaining ones tucked in the back. The service was too notch. Our way was very attentive even though she was the only person to service the entire dining area. Our food was absolutely delicious. My husband and I had a day off together and some time to burn so we wanted to go to breakfast. I've wanted to try this breakfast diner, so today was the day! I ordered a cheese omelette with hash-browns and white toast. I wish the hash-browns were crispy - I know to ask next time! Also, the toast had a margarine spread that pretty thick and tasteless- next time I will ask for real butter. My husband's colossal of a meal was the big guy omelette just loaded with everything you could imagine. He was in heaven with its' wonder and accompaniment of home fries and biscuit with gravy. They're CLOSED Wednesday and Thursdays. I love this place so much, the owner is sweet. Her granddaughter is a server here , she's just as nice . It's clean little restaurant right across the Goodwill Bins and shares a building with a tire shop. Once I came and my car died, they gave me a jump . I don't know much about this joint, other than the counter was full with what looked like "regulars" last time I came in; you definitely get the feeling this is a local institution! Pitt's serves down-home breakfasts with pretty much all the standard options you can imagine (eggs, hash browns, country potatoes, bacon, sausage, toast, pancakes, omelets, etc.), as well as daily specials. True Americana breakfast. I would give this a solid 3, even a 3.5, but I will break it down for you. The food: The butter, man....the butter! When I put my scrambled eggs on my english muffin, I could still taste the butter. The same with pancakes. And that is a compliment. It tasted like the real stuff. Pancakes came out hot, nice and fluffy, and hit the spot. The hash browns were extra crispy like I prefer (and requested), but were not burnt. Now that's skill (no sarcasm). The chicken fried steak tasted pretty standard, but it was hot, and the gravy was a good texture, so again, overall......great tasting American diner breakfast. I have a weird hang up of "white" in my scrambled eggs (see picture), so it wasn't perfect in my book, but overall, the food is really good. The prices were ridiculous (in the good way) for the amount of food I ordered. The ambiance: I walk in, and the server/owner/all of the above tells me to sit wherever I want. While I know not the restaurant's fault per se, something did effect my experience. The diner is small and cozy, and I was there for a good breakfast, which I got. Halfway through, though, a breakfast "party of 9" sat next to me, and at no fault to the restaurant, decided to be as loud as they wanted. Since the restaurant is kind of "hole in the wall"ish (again, both a positive and negative in certain scenarios), I couldn't really move, and I had to enjoy my good food with what seemed like a family reunion in my ear (I could hear them loud and proud with headphones turned up to the highest volume). Overall, I would highly recommend on tasty, INEXPENSIVE, breakfast....just be wary, you may be part of another group's conversation, whether you want it or not. I think The Pitt's Stop is a classic diner where patrons really do feel like family. The owner and the server both learned my name and remembered it, and they seemed to know the names of everyone who came in. Everyone was friendly and I chatted with the person next to me about what's going on in our lives. The food was very reasonable. I expected to pay much more, especially after leaving kind of a big tip. I looked at the receipt and was a bit taken back by only paying $34 for breakfast for two people (and that includes tax and tip). Considering all the food and drink we got, that's a little bit cheaper than McDonald's. And the food was very good. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I see why this place is an institution in Sacramento dining. The menu is pretty small and it seemed pretty basic to me. They close at 2 so there's little in the way of dinner items. I'd be interested to try some more of the things they serve though. read more

My wife and I went here for breakfast and the food was pretty average diner food. I got the country Benedict and it was very under seasoned, but salt, pepper, and some hot sauce fixed that right up. The eggs were cooked perfectly - runny golden yolk with firm egg whites. The home fries were good, again under seasoned and a little under cooked, but good still. My wife got the country fried steak with hash browns and she had the same sort of experience - under seasoned. The staff is very kind and attentive, they were always smiling and kept my wife's coffee cup full the whole time we were there. The food was incredibly affordable for a family of 5 and actually had a kids menu which is hard to find in Sacramento. My only complaint was the food did take a long time, so bring entertainment for the kiddos and you'll be fine.
