Living with a burger loving gal, we took advantage of the free advertisement for The Bistro and checked it out. The place is clean, rather spartan, but bright and airy. You order at the front counter, pay, and wait for your food to be made. The menu is far wider than we thought checking it out on line. Is it going to win the best burger? We would say no way, with Loudmouth at Mount Lehman out there along with even Five Guys around the lower mainland, there are better choices. One thing the lovely K loved is she was as able to determine the doneness of the meat. The potatoes that came with were good, but soft on the inside and also out, which isn't what I'd want. I had the breakfast brunch of Desi Platter which was very tasty, and quite different. One thing I will say is the price of the menu item deserved a three egg omelette, not two. The rest of the platter was really great, the paratha especially, never tried that. Would we go back, probably, but not compelled to do so right away.

My friend and I have a tradition of getting breakfast before our 9am class on Fridays, and Google reviews seemed to suggest that the Bistro was the place to go. We walked in about half an hour after opening, and the place was warm and already buzzing with a pleasant volume of conversations from a handful of filled tables. Patricia (the owner?) greeted us as soon as we entered and directed us to the menus. It's a small breakfast menu of about seven items, but what they do, they do well. I had the sunken Benny, which Patricia kindly explained to me was not at all like a traditional Benny. Instead, it was poached eggs, potatoes, corn, black beans, bell peppers, and chorizo nestled into a zesty tomato sauce. It felt a bit like a Mexican take on a shakshuka. So hearty, especially as it was served with a delicious focaccia style bread--it could cure heartache, I think. My friend ordered the omelette with a side of pancakes, and the omelette was a great balance of veggies, meat, and cheese. And the pancakes... I promise I'm not exaggerating when I say she shed tears. "10/10," she declared, marveling at the texture--somehow soft, fluffy, and bouncy. The baked goods are also all made fresh in house, and I had to get a carrot and mascarpone muffin to go. It wasn't super cheap (~$25 per person with our various sides), but it's worth it for food that fills the stomach and the heart. Can't wait to come back! Thank you, Patricia and staff!

I thought it wouldn't take too long since there were only two of us, but I greatly underestimated how many people were ahead of us. Upon arrival, there were still about 20 people on the list ahead so we ended up waiting over an hour. When we were finally seated, service was reasonably quick. Coffee is about $4 for drip coffee and about $7 for a mocha. We ordered both the eggs benny with bacon and the Dutch baby bowl to share. I was impressed by the portion sizes, definitely a good spot to choose if you're hungry! I had to box up almost half of my food as I couldn't finish it all. The Dutch baby has sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes and salad under the eggs, so it is quite a substantial meal. We both enjoyed all of the components to each dish, but for me, the bacon was absolutely perfect and my favourite thing on the plate. Thick cut, not overly fatty and had tons of flavour. I would absolutely order this again; I just wish there had been a bit more hollandaise. The server managed to always pop up at the right time for coffee and water refills, and was quick to bring the check when I asked for it. It was fairly loud in the dining room due to the number of people talking and eating, but not a deterrent to go back. I'd just try to join the wait list a bit earlier next time.

I was excited to visit Eastsound and did some research on the current food vibe. Being a caterer/baker myself I was super excited to check out Brown Bear Baking and "treat" our group to some of their bakes. Sadly we were pretty disappointed in 2/3 of our purchases. First of all, the sticky bun was underbaked, doughy with no spring to the roll. I will say that their "sticky" was delicious. On the other end of the spectrum the blueberry peach almond coffee cake was burnt and extremely dry. My daughter did enjoy her peanut butter cream filled sandwich cookie so, points for that. What makes me sad is that I am not sure when I will get a chance to return to see if it was an off day for them and also, food prices are SO high it is disappointing to basically throw away $15 worth of food. Lastly, I am not sure what it is...but what happened to "service with a smile"?....it seemed lacking at most of the places we patronized yesterday.

Oh my gosh, we were out this way, without much breakfast had, so looking for brunch-ish? Ronny's was outstanding! We missed the lunch rush I think, more were leaving than coming in, but I'd say they do a good lunch, or people wouldn't be there. Did I mention they are out of the way a bit? Don't let that deter you, go there, and you'll be like us, will find a way to decide, we need to go to Maple Ridge! I love the interior with a splash of Italia, but decor is full of understanding what the purpose is. It's about feeding people in the traditional sense. You can eat in, take away ready, or take it home warm it up and feed your family. How refreshing it is for us that love the old world mindset. K's Chef's Special with fries was so good. The fries remained hot until the last one was devoured, how do they do that? She ate half the sandwich and had to box the other half. My borscht side with my Turkey BL sandwich was so good I also brought a half sandwich home. I could have finished it, but we would have had to stop for a nap prior to getting all the way home. This might surprise those that have read this far, but we are going back for sure, and you should find a reason to do the same.
