This place is a fast food but usually have to wait a few minutes since it's cooked to order . That's fine with me though I love hot fresh food and cooked to order. They wear gloves and clean if you go inside I just do the drive through usually . But the menu has a variety of items and I love the waffle fries . The wings are good also . The mushrooms aren't bad either . The food has been consistent so far even when we had it delivered. read more

There used to be more Mr. Heros around. It's been decades since I've been to one. Noticed this along Livingston; Sweetie used to go here, but it closed for awhile, and seems to have reopened in the last year or so. It has pretty much what you would expect: subs. Italian subs, subs with chicken, or hamburgers, or whatever on them, but subs. And pretty damn good ones. Good bread, good meats, good toppings, interesting combinations. I had a Romanburger LTE (which essentially means more of everything.) It was really, really good. Fresh veggies, flavorful burgers, ham, and sauce, good sub bun. It held together well, and was a great balance of flavors and textures. Sweetie had a cheesesteak, and liked it. The waffle fries were just okay, nothing special. They have other sides that look interesting, and other sandwiches. Sweetie says she used to love the garlic bread, but they no longer have that. Service was friendly and fast, prices are reasonable for what you get. Turning out of the lot would be hard in traffic, so be careful. We got it to go, but it is clean and bright inside, so I'd eat there too. read more

I grew up in Cleveland and always remember Mr. Hero. Still flourishing in Northeast Ohio, but only one location exists in Columbus, on Livingston Ave. If I'm in the neighborhood and have the time, I'll stop by for a Romanburger or Cheesesteak. In my last two visits I have had a very good, consistent experience in getting the Romanburger. The regular size is 7" with two burgers, but they have been running a special on the 3 burger 10", which is a steal for only a nickel more than the 7" at $5.55! Beginning with a fresh baked Orlando roll, it is topped with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and a special recipe Italian oil seasoning. Then topped with burgers, a white American blend sliced cheese, grilled salami and ham, and mayo. It's a perfect combination! Pictured is my 10" Romanburger with no mayo and over 1.5 hours old. The funny thing is, Mr. Hero's seem to be in the hoods of most cities like Rally's but not as popular. I first tried this place for the first time as a child in Toledo within the Manhattan Plaza and it was so good. I believe it was a Philly Cheesesteak, but as I've grown up the Philly is just a'ight, however, that RomanBurger is the BOMB. IDK what it is, but the balance between their house dressing and mayo is tantalizing with the Grilled Salami and beef, now I know this isn't the healthiest item to try, but hell it is worth trying on a cheat day! lol The waffle fries are decent (come with the combo, but my review of waffle fries are biased because I do not like waffle fries. Now after typing this review I now want a RomanBurger lol. The establishment drive thru is really slow and that's why service gets a lot mark, but the employees are really friendly, so that is a PLUS! While priced decently, you can do a lot better than Mr. Hero's. I remember Mr. Hero's from my childhood. Back in the day, there were many locations around Columbus. Now, there is just one left in the city. If the taste and freshness of the food is why, I understand. It seems like a good bargain. Two Philly cheese steaks and two Bavarian cream filled churros for just $10. After I ate it, though, I feel like I paid too much. The cheese steaks, while hot, are stale and a bit hard. The churros, like something you should get free while getting your car fixed at a dealership (not much more than a hint of the cream in a slight smattering of crunchiness). My mom took me to Mr. Hero years ago when one was located inside of a gas station on the westside of Columbus off of Wilson Road. Of course that location has been long gone. Once I found out we had one out east on Livingston Ave. I never pass up a chance to go whenever I'm in the area. While pregnant with one of my children I used to pass the restaurants exit on my way home from my OBGYN apts. So I always stopped. I'm obsessed with the Roman burger and fries with cheese sauce. It's addicting. It's always served fresh and warm. I think they used to be open late and now it closes earlier. If you've never tried it, I definitely suggest you go soon. Mr. Hero. It's only your hero when you are wasted, apparently. I used to LOVE Mr. Hero as a kid. I remember begging my parents to stop when my dad had a business trip in Cleveland. My parents liked it as well so there were never objections. I stopped a few weeks ago while driving across Ohio. My meal was gross. I got the classic burger ($5.90) without onions, and I got bacon added for an extra dollar. It was nasty. The burger had no seasoning whatsoever. It was fatty and had seeds in it. I wasn't looking for upscale dining, but I wanted something edible. I ate half and threw the rest away. It just wasn't good. And for an extra dollar I expect more than a single slice of pre cooked bacon. The dining area closes at 6:00 PM. Weird. The only redeeming quality is that this would taste good drunk, probably, and it is super cheap. read more

Well if it was a few days ago it would have been 5 five stars, but after todays visit it is down to three. They sandwich I had the first time was awesome believe it was the bacon and swiss cheesesteak, good amount of meat, cheese, and some delicious mayo spread. Today I ordered their $5 cheesesteak special with double meat and cheese. The meat was certainly doubled, the cheese was non-existent, customer service is lacking, but at least the decent sandwiches make up for it. I really have no reason or urge to go back though. The food was reasonably priced and the service was actually quick (opposed to what most of the reviews have said). I decided to finally get over to Mr. Hero today for one of their Roman Burgers. This building was almost unmistakably a former G.D. Ritzy's location (does anyone else remember that place??) Since I hadn't been to a Mr. Hero in quite some time, I was hopeful that it was as I remembered - delicious. I was not disappointed. Grilled to order and fresh. I must mention that I happened to be there right at 11:30AM, so I wonder if all the parts would have come together just as well if they were in the midst of a full lunch rush. Either way, you owe it yourself to give it a try - especially if your other options are "find-anywhere" spots such as the King or the Clown. I must be living under a rock. I've never heard of this place till last week. Now I've eaten there 3 times and thought it deserved a post. I haven't tried every item but I don't think I will eat anything but the Sicilian Angus sub that's on sale for 5.55 combo for awhile. Love it along with the crunchy little zesty fries. I'd like to try the roman burger since that's what reviewers talk about but the Sicilian sub has mushrooms steak pepperoni maybe salami not sure but it's great. You have to understand what a ROMANBURGER is to believe that a chain with a drive thru gets FIVE STARS. Who cares if it takes a long time to get your food. Who cares if a meal costs $8 with a drink. Who cares about anything other than the ROMANBURGER. Once you taste it, you'll understand. A 10 inch hoagie covered with two small cheeseburgers, capricola ham, special sauces, lettuce and onion and I may be wrong- they may put different ingredients in it...but I promise you once you bite into this ROMANBURGER you won't care either. IT IS HEAVEN! And, if you happen to order the waffle fries- they are HUGE, HOT and CRISP EVERY time! Cheese sauce is good, too. I will give this place three stars on the fact that I love their food, but Tonight my sister, niece, and I went to this establishment. The door stated their hours had changed to closing at 10 on mon-Thursday, Friday at 9 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 11. That's fine it's 9:15.....but the door was locked. Had the worst restaurant experience of my life at this restaurant yesterday. I went in about 12:05 because I work about 5 minutes away and thought it might be good, plus I like gyros. I can tell you I'm never going back to this horrible place. I pulled in and went inside. I was greeted at the counter by a gentleman who barely spoke English. Normally I don't mind that situation because he was polite but no one in the place really spoke English well. It was frustrating. I give him 3 orders (ordering for people from work as well as myself) and he takes them down on a paper scrap and puts them up to the clips on the counter where actual sales slips and orders would go.... Here's where everything went wrong.... It's lunchtime. I get it. It's busy. There's a line around the building for the drive thru. There's a lady in an SUV waiting at the window. At least 10 people come in behind me. They keep dropping fries into the fryer. I think everything is okay. I'm waiting beside the counter for my food. FORTY minutes go by and the lady at the drive thru hasn't gotten any food and neither have I. No one has even put my order into the computer or taken my money. Finally a lady comes and asks me, can I take your order? Uh yeah, I need 3 orders, and she takes one then walks away. I was so frustrated and I just wanted my food and to leave. If it has just been my food and my money I would have. I can't believe a business runs this way. Oh! i live in Virnigia and a few years ago we had one Mr.hero restaurant near were i live, ive always went there since i was 14 and i remember the first day i took abite out of that romanburger as the first guy said, "IT WAS TRULY HEAVEN" and i went almost everyweekend, those fries were awesome and i even applied to work there but because of school i couldnt, UNFORTUNATELY they Closed the place down:( i dont even know why, one day i saw the closed business sign and i thought it was gone forever! but im glad it dint, i never been to ohio but just because of MR.Hero i will go there to visit!!! Mr. Hero was a very surprising stop for me along I-70 going through Columbus on the way back home to Chicago. Looking for something else other than the usual fast food fare, I found this gem. The food is prepared fresh so it will take some time, but the food was really good. I had a steak sandwich and it actually reminded me of a few steak sandwich places back home in Chicago. It includes steak, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms and chopped up and cooked together along with some waffle fries. It wasn't seasoned quite as well as the places I'm used to here in Chicago, but if I'm ever going through Columbus on I-70, I'll definitely stop by! read more

First of all the food was prepared as I remembered as a child growing up in Cleveland. We take our daughters regularly to NWCH and once in a blue moon will stop at this location for lunch on our way home. Yesterday we stopped there and handed the cashier at the drive thru a $20 bill and felt it, held it up to the light and handed it back to me and told me that it was not real. The bill was from 1950 and well used. She told us that it did not have a line in it and that she knew fake money and that this bill was fake. My husband and I tried to explain to her that in 1950 they did not use watermarks or "lines", but she was still amendment that this bill was not real. She explained that she gets a lot of fake bills at her location, and I suggested that if she was going to actively accuse people of giving her counterfeit currency that she invest in one of those high tech little markers to back up her accusations. She stated that she did not need a marker she knew. I was very embarrassed, I am an honest person and wife to a USN veteran and I understand the location of this establishment is not in the best of neighborhoods but I did not appreciate the service that we received. I suppose the problem is that most of the people that work there are immigrants and do not remember what the "old" money used to look like. Guess next time we go there we'll just use good old plastic to save us the hassle. read more
