Went on Sunday night and it was delicious! We started with two different dumplings, I liked the friend better than the steamed but that's my preference! My entree was on the safe side of Sesame chicken. The dish was light for something that is usually heavy. Good portion size, took more than half home to enjoy for lunch the next day! I will definitely be going back to try more items on the menu. I've been to Mr Dumplings on three occasions and I am so happy with the food there. I grew up in the DC Metro area which has great options for Chinese food and I would rank this place among some of better place in DC. There are plenty of menu options that you can't find in the Triangle's Chinese restaurant scene and it's all delicious. So far, I've had the Cumin Lamb which was incredible, the Beef Chow Fun which so far is my favorite dish there and on another occasion I decided to try some middle of the road fair and had the General Tso's - it was very well done. Even the hot & sour soup reminds me of my former haunts in DC's Chinatown. Very happy that Mr. Dumpling calls Apex home! It certainly adds to the town's motto of "The Peak of Living." read more

This place has amazing food. I lived in Seattle for 13 years and enjoyed a lot of authentic Szechuan Chinese food, and this is right up there with them. Also, the service was good. I had the pork and cabbage dumplings, which were great. I would have like them fried longer, but they were still great. The spicy beef hot pot was amazing. Spicy, good veggies, and the beef brisket wasn't too fatty. My wife had the sweet and sour pork. It was white meat with a good thick breading. Just spent $65 bucks for the worst food we've had in years. Instead of wasting time reading the menu to make your selection, just order "The Brown Stuff" - all of the dishes had the same taste, which I'm still trying to cleanse off my palate. I didn't expect fine cuts in the Stewed Beef & Tofu in Store Pot, but also didn't expect fat and gristle that I wouldn't give my dogs. The food is incredible but the service was horrible- inattentive, slow. It took us almost an hour to get our dumplings which showed up at the end of our meal even though we ordered them with our drinks. Our water was never refilled. I noticed A LOT of other tables equally irritated and frustrated. They said they were missing one person on their waitstaff but I have no idea how or why they think that would've been enough. There seemed to be 2 people taking orders, 1 busboy and 1 host would was scurrying around the whole restaurant. Me and my family dined in this restaurant while we were visiting Raleigh. It's hard to find a good authentic Chinese restaurant in this area and I think this is a good one. I am Chinese so I care more about the food being authentic, my husband is American so he also cares about if it's clean, the seatings are spacious, the service being good, etc.. And we both got what we wanted! Our waiter was super friendly and give us good recommendations. Their menu has different sections for people like me who want authentic dishes that are more foreign to Americans, and sections that have typical Chinese American dishes. We ordered from both. My husband loved the fried shrimp rolls. I liked the spicy bone in rabbit salad, which you can only find in the most authentic Sichuan restaurants. I don't know if it's because they just opened and are trying to get more customers, but the portions are big! I recommend sharing. They have a large outdoor seating area. We sat inside, but when our kids finished eating, they went out there to play in the patio area which was great. I highly recommend this family-friendly restaurant. read more

We also ordered kung pao chicken, orange chicken and spicy beef noodle soup in szechuan sauce. All three were very good and the portion sizes were large. I was sad to see Lee Garden go but the replacement, Mr. Dumpling may be even better. The service was very fast and friendly. Dining area is clean. There was a surprising amount of very authentic Chinese dishes. So many in fact that we felt a little intimidated when ordering. We got hot and sour soup, wonton soup, beef with broccoli and pork and Chinese cabbage dumplings. All were excellent. And the prices are very reasonable. We will be back! read more

This is a great place to get handmade dumplings. The service is great and the food is unbelievably good. We tried the lamb and carrot dumplings. Now be prepared to order a different appetizer because they take 20 minutes to make by hand. So we chose the egg rolls and a wonton soup. The egg roll was unlike the fast food Chinese chains you order delivery from. Their version will not disappoint. The dumplings were amazing and the dipping sauce is divine! We ordered some Jasmine Tea to accompany our meal. It paired nicely with the dishes we ordered. We took home most of the Chicken Pad Thai because we were full. We are from Charlotte and this is our first time in Apex for an event. We came to check out Mr. Dumpling because of the reviews... we usually go to Atlanta for our authentic Chinese/Taiwanese food... my dad was from Sichuan, my mom was Taiwanese, and we are big fan of the anything spicy and Taiwanese. We ordered the spicy beef noodle, pork and leek dumplings, chicken and cabbage dumplings, and Singapore stir fried rice noodle. Spicy beef noodle soup was pretty good, but we loved the dumplings the best. We will return the next time we are in town, and btw, our server was very good and attentive, took our order right away and checked in often throughout the meal... highly recommend this place! read more

Overall dumplings are solid. Not amazing. But again, when you look regionally in the area and want to compare, solid. You can get your dumpling fix here and they have solid meat / veg options. One of the most surprising things about this place is the fried rice. Legit one of the best services of fried rice that my wife and I have ever had -- super crisp vegetables and perfectly seasoned. As close as you can get to authentic NY dumplings. Also they do have many options other then dumplings. I had the equivalent to sesame chicken and my husband and the beef with broccoli. As far as dumplings we tried a few. My favorite was the pork. The carrot was interesting as I have nothing to ever compare it too. Great service but there has always been a wait for the times we have attempted to go. Location is in a Lowe's food parking lot which can get pretty full due the pub located a few stores down. Overall we very impressed about finding this place and it being so close to what we are used to up north. We will be back! Disappointed doesn't begin to describe our experience tonight. Mr Dumpling used the be our go-to place for an enjoyable night out with delicious, authentic Chinese food. These days, they seem to have relegated themselves to an every day take-out joint. We seated ourselves, were directed to use our phones to access a menu and were given takeout menus when we asked for paper physical menus since our kids didn't have phones. Once we placed our drink order, the host disappeared and we were expected to just order from our phones with no human interaction. I had to flag someone down in order to request rice noodles for my dish, which could not be done in the app. Not to mention there were no descriptions of any of the dishes. I had to Google my options to try to find something I would enjoy outside the boring Americanized entrees. Then, our appetizer arrived AFTER half of the entrees, and the other entrees came over 10 minutes later. The food was OK at best, but nothing compared to the delicious authentic dishes they used to offer. There used to be such a draw of getting to see the dumplings being made by hand and feeling like we were at a special, local family restaurant. Tonight we felt like an imposition on their takeout business. I doubt we will be back, which is sad because we had such enjoyable experiences pre-pandemic. read more

Tonight was a simple order of sweet and sour chicken the greasiest I have ever attempted to eat with chewy bits of gray chicken. Chicken and shrimp dumplings fried, forgot to fry and forgot the chicken and shrimp. This is where he lied. 30 min after watching other orders leave the restaurant I was told they didn't make that type of dumpling on the weekend. But other server told me they ONLY MAKE on the weekend. Lastly fried rice that was white rice with soy mixed in. What a waste of money and taste buds. I agree with one of the reviewers that the name does not do it justice. We have been there a few times and last time forced ourselves to stray from our usual dumpling and red chili wontons to add something to our order. We were not disappointed. Of course we had to get dumplings (and they were amazing) but we also tried the Singapore Rice Noodle entree. Wow. Spicy, flavorful, interesting combination of chicken, shrimp, and fine rice noodles and a flavor to die for. Had a really nice spicy kick to it. My only minor complaint is the red chili wontons are not as spicy as some that we are use to, but adding hot chili sauce made them perfect. The flavor is amazing and they are super-fresh. It is really cool how you can watch the staff making the dumplings fresh and I like that they have some dumplings on the menu always and other options are specific to certain days. It speaks to the freshness of the food. Someone mentioned that her takeout order wasn't great. Some restaurants don't travel well. Maybe this is on that list. But, going there with the clean restaurant, super nice, prompt service is a really fun experience. I will try takeout at some point because I have to have the Singapore Rice Noodles again soon! I am confident it will still be delicious when I get home. They also have a dumpling making class for kids. My response to the business owner's public comment: I have no problem sparing time out of my day to write about my honest experience regarding your racist, anti-black establishment. Just as you do not have a problem HARASSING and CHASING CUSTOMERS DOWN after they have left your restaurant. Just as you have no problem blaming customers through Yelp about their horrid experiences at the hands of YOUR staff. Other customers like your manager's sense of humor? Hooray! He actually showed no humor towards my friend or me. There is absolutely nothing funny about profiling and targeting customers. We did not enjoy being chased down then aggressively lectured to tip him. Who would? Like I said earlier, I was having a hectic day and forgot. I still tipped him well, because that is what I do at every restaurant I visit. Waiters deserve better than their wages. Why did your manager LIE to us and say he could ONLY TAKE CASH since the meal was under $15? You, the owner of the restaurant, even said the truth is customers don't necessarily have to pay in cash. So, why did your manager say he would *only* split the bill if we had cash due to a card minimum? Why demand for cash when you even admit your policy is more lax than he lead on? Why let us know right when we have finished our meals instead of earlier? Tell your manager not to mislead customers! Make it clear what is offered during lunch and what methods of payment you take through visible signs BEFORE potential customers are seated! Communicate honestly and streamline your policy! Or is it customer policy to attempt to gaslight and police customers instead of holding yourself accountable? Also, how is your manager's appearance and intelligence of relevance to me as a restaurant customer? He was a horrible server and did a completely terrible job. If others had a great experience with him, then wonderful. However, I definitely could not say the same about my personal experience. He stared at us from afar and hardly communicated with us. All he communicated with us is that it is appropriate to TARGET and CHASE DOWN CUSTOMERS. I don't need life advice from a racist restaurant establishment. My friend and I both know that is why you ALL looked uncomfortable right when we walked in. Do not act like that was not the case. Tell your manager to stop following and chasing after customers outside instead of pushing the blame onto your customers: your revenue stream. Train YOUR team better. Everyone has the right to tip how they please. I always tip well. People forget about their surroundings and situations they are in sometimes. I was chased after, screamed at, and STILL LEFT A TIP. Why? Definitely not because of the service. It is because waiters rely heavily on tips and I know that... so I tip them well. Thank you for proving that despite horrible service, I still believe people deserve a liveable wage and I help out how I can. This was our first time at Mr Dumpling. We went for lunch and tried the pork and cabbage dumplings which we really liked. Also had the dry sautéed green beans, also quite good. I am retired and on a fixed income so I found it a bit pricey. The quality was high and the service was just fine; it was a quiet lunch and I wonder how they would do with a full dining room. I suppose they would have another server. There were lots of things on the menu that I want to try; it is a big menu. We will be back. We live close by and don't have a favorite place for Chinese food. This might be the place. read more
