Mr. Dumpling has been our go to Chinese restaurant. Tonight we ordered egg drop soup with wontons, crispy Sesame Chicken and house fried rice. Everything was delicious except they served the chicken and rice before the soup. When the soup came out, it was barely warm. We sent it back without a problem. The thing that really bothered me was the "dinging" from their ordering system. Any time a dish was ready, DING!! It was busy, so there was constant dinging. I live just two minutes from this restaurant. Drive-by it every day while I'm in the same plaza for a different restaurant, the UPS store and grocery shopping. I've always been curious about it and saw all of the "four star reviews" I got an order from them last night via Uber eats. I live so close the delivery was prompt and right on time and the food was hot so no complaints there. However, I have to say, it is the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life and I've had pretty bad Chinese food! I got the shrimp fried rice and the Mongolian beef and basically, they both look like there were "soaked" in soy sauce. Very salty. Flavorless except for the soy sauce and absolutely disgusting! The picture of those two dishes, of course looks delicious and the fried rice is the exact right color in the picture, sort of a yellowish color from small amounts of soy sauce or sauce. When mine came, it was actually dark brown in color and just sopping wet with soy sauce. Same thing for the Mongolian beef. This food was not only bad, it was probably one of the worst things I ever put in my mouth and I would absolutely never ever order from there again and surely would not go there for a sitdown meal. It was disgusting! I'm still struggling to understand why there were so many three star and four star reviews for this restaurant in my meal came out so badly and so awful. I remain perplexed. At this Chinese restaurant at Apex, I had their whole grilled fish. It was actually a pretty decently sized portion and quite of lot of extras. I remember it coming with veggies, tofu, bamboo, and potato. The grilled fish had several different styles and I had the sour one. Besides the fish, I also had twice cooked pork. TERRIBLE! I ordered the spicy cumin lamb noodles to go. Picked it up immediately. The rice noodles were so overcooked and mushy they were inedible. Had 4 small pieces of lamb and 2-3 onion squares. What a disappointment. I have not ordered from here in a while and would go because of it's authentic cuisine. Never again! Don't waste your money or time. I have to say, this place was great when it first opened, then it started going downhill - less authentic Chinese and more Americanized. But I recently came back to give it another try, and I'm happy to say it's great again. The flavors feel authentic, the dishes are well executed, and it finally delivers what I originally loved about it. My brother-in-law had been there before so he ordered a variety of menu items for all of us to share. Here's what we had: --chili-fried diced chicken - spicy and delicious! The chicken was diced small, fried well and super flavorful. They served this dish with plenty of fried chilis, eat these at your own risk! --dan-dan noodle - simple and flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly. I really liked this item. --pan-fried pork & cabbage dumplings - my least favorite item but still good. The pan-fried exterior was excellent but I wasn't a huge fan of the cabbage. --cream cheese wonton - very yummy! Sweet, crunchy, creamy. A unique take on the classic rangoon. --General Tso's chicken - very good! Different than any other General Tso's chicken I've had. Felt like a true Chinese dish not the American style General Tso's you find everywhere. --wonton in red chili oil - one of my favorite items! I lived in Taiwan for three years and stepping into Mr. Dumpling was a multi-sensory transport through time and space! Everything about this reminded me of living in Taipei. The service was prompt and polite. The food was very good. We had egg drop soup, pork dumplings, chicken fried rice, and a scallion pancake that was fantastic! I have not had a scallion pancake that good since we lived in Taiwan 20 years ago! However, anyone with a shellfish allergy or intolerance may wish to avoid. We ordered the pork dumplings because I do have a shellfish allergy, and I began experiencing some side effects within an hour of eating here... Nothing major but a lot of hives by the next morning. Since the other dumplings on special that day included shrimp, I suspect there was some cross-contamination in the dumpling station. So, if you see something in the pictures and want it badly, ask the servers if they still offer this item. They have different deals based on the day but you can always try an assortment. The taste and menu are more like a Taiwanese rather than a typical Chinese food. Came in right when they opened as I had just got into Cary from Charlotte for work. So perfect ending to a long drive. I ordered shrimp fried rice and an egg roll to take back to my hotel. Place was empty so service was very quick and friendly. The egg roll was my favorite part. Rice was not back just not my favorite. Wish I would of gotten more egg rolls for sure. I finally visited today to fulfill our Chinese cuisine craving. My daughter loves Chinese food and since moving from Queens Chinese food has been disappointing. I read all the yelp reviews and reached out to Kong my fellow triangle yelper and decided to visit for lunch today. Service was great however you can only order Take Out currently. The dining room is very small unfortunately. We found a beautiful patio out back to dine on. Our food was brought out to us along with silverware, chopsticks and plates. We ordered chicken and cabbage pan fried dumplings, Shrimp Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. The menu here is not your typical Chinese American menu with fried everything. It's Szechuan style. Everything was really good and flavorful. We really enjoyed it all. My daughter is very picky about her food and she loved the dumplings and shrimp fried rice. Very good quality. I do wish the dumplings had more filling for the price. I would definitely visit again to try the pork and leek and rainbow colored dumplings. read more

One of the first Asian restaurants I've been in Apex. Overall, loved the food. As the vegetarian, I enjoyed how they had the veggie dumplings. They only make them on Thursday's but luckily they had leftovers for Friday. The Mapo tofu was great and definitely has a peppery kick to it. The eggplant basil comes out hot so make sure to let it cook lol down. The atmosphere and staff were great and very friendly as well. I ordered Uber Eats from Mr Dumpling for the first time last week for lunch. I ordered the dumplings assortment, Szechuan beef sliced ($33) and one other entree. The dumplings were tasty and the other entree was fresh and had good flavors. The disappointment and alarm came when I cracked open a large container of szechuan beef. The container was 1/3 full of oil. So much oil that it looked like an aquarium with sliced beef drowning in the oil slick. It was inedible. I took it home and dumped it in a strainer and rinsed the oil out of it. I hated to waste that much money and food. So, I tried to salvage something. After removing much of the oil, I ate some of it over white rice and it was tolerable, but I'd never risk ordering this again. I believe someone was allowed to prepare this dish without proper skills. I can't believe the recipe would intentionally call for that much oil to be used. I also don't understand the inordinate amount of black peppercorns in this dish. I like pepper. I like spicy food. This was bizarre. Someone in the kitchen doesn't understand proportionality of ingredients and/or didn't follow a recipe. With tip, my order came to $100. I'm not sure I'll risk ordering from Mr Dumpling again. read more
