The hi ho sandwich is either a choice of beef or pork that has been sliced deli thin style. It comes with a sauce that is some kind of middle ground between a spaghetti and light BBQ sauce. It's similar to Italian-BBQ crossover sauces I've found in Memphis. Hi ho started before WWII as a sandwich shop that sold their creation to travelers on Hwy 51. The area was settled by Italians and the Spitale family came up with the unique sandwich, likely imitating BBQ without actually being BBQ. Their flat top grill is great too. Being that this Golden Corral was in Louisiana they welcomed us with smiles and great options of hot fresh food. The wait staff did a great job of serving the lot of us, the manager kept up with our demands of what ran out. We had to ask for small app plates, and silverware was not provided at all spots. Dishes were never cleared when bringing additional apps, so we took to stacking and rearranging plates.
