Appetizer of potato skins (top) Fried catfish Sandwich (bottom) wish I got the poboy portion and no fries being it was very good.

I haven't been back in Louisiana since my years in Fort Polk, but our cross country trip landed us in Amite. I had a hankering for gumbo and catfish, both of which were very good. The wife and I shared an order of potato skins which was amazing and easily enough to feed 4-5 people lol It may not have been the best gumbo or catfish I've ever had but the pricing was fair, portions large, and our waitress was attentive and terrific. If we were in the area longer I would easily have returned and tried some other seafood dishes easily.

    "Large" fried shrimp platter

I've been here twice and was not impressed neither time. It is a local favorite, gets a lot of business on the weekends. My first visit I had fried catfish platter and it tasted so fishy I didn't finish it. Second time I got the "Large" fried shrimp platter for $21. They hardly peeled the shell off the shrimp which was disappointing. The shell covered over half of the shrimp so after peeling it off only the tip of my shrimp was fried/battered. And let's talk about how small the portion size of the "large" fried shrimp platter. I got 12 shrimp. Someone at my table got a small and they got 8 shrimp. Not worth $21 for a large. It did come with one trip to the salad bar. Service was very good. Be cautious of the price of your food because they hand write the receipts and manually type it into a register... a family member was almost charged over $80 over what their ticket price actually was.

Large Seafood Platter! I wish the hush puppies were not burnt and oily. Offer less fries and offer a bowl of gumbo!!

Had a lot of fun eating dinner here the other night. Nice Salad Bar and Seafood Platter. We were in a Private Room for my Mom's 90th. My only recommendation is that the hush puppies were burnt and greasy. I liked my seafood platter, but please add less fries and maybe offer a bowl of gumbo too!

Seafood stuffed potato with 2 piece catfish special

We were pulling an all-nighter drive from Chicago to New Orleans, and ran across Mike's Catfish Inn around lunch time on our way. I had the seafood stuffed potato with the catfish. We also ordered the fried veggies and fried pickles as a group. Our meals also came with the salad bar. Everything on the salad bar looked super fresh with everything you need for leaf salad with all the fixings, and an assortment of salad dishes like pasta salad, potato salad, and broccoli salad among others. That broccoli salad was the stand out for me with lots of cranberries and sesame seeds, I definitely loaded up my plate. The seafood stuffed potato was really good with the seafood contained in a rich cream sauce. The catfish fillets were perfect, nice and crisp with great flavor. The fried veggies and pickles were ok, but I would probably pass on them if I get the good fortune to try Mike's again. The flavor, temperature, and portions were great, but I wasn't a fan of the cornmeal breading on them, due to the texture. The others in my company liked them though, so it may just be my personal preference. The staff were super nice and attentive. When they saw how much we were ordering they suggested we move to a larger table, and helped us move everything with no fuss. If we ever decide to undertake another overnight trek, then I know where we are stopping for lunch. Mikes!

Seafood Platter (Fried Oysters, fried Catfish, sweet potato fries and Hushpuppies) unlimited All U Can Eat Salad Bar and sweet tea

I've passed this restaurant so many times. I finally stopped Saturday. This place is a priceless gem. The parking lot was packed but upon entry I was greeted quickly and told to sit where you like. Within three minutes of sitting someone came over and asked me what I want to drink and took my order and told me that the salad bar was unlimited so I ordered the seafood combo fried catfish and oysters fried medium with sweet potato, hushpuppies and a sweet tea. The order came timely even though the restaurant was full and busy. The catfish was fried crispy the way I like and the oysters were divine. I will definitely go back to this place and visit and bring people with me. Sunday was my waitress and she was wonderful.

Great value, very good food, busy lunch crowd. Lots of parking in the lot. They have daily lunch specials. I had the 8oz ribeye, potato and salad bar for $10. The salad bar was quality with many different ingredients. Two TVs on opposite walls with espn, if you need sports at lunch. The portion sizes are big. I started with the salad bar. Loved the quality and variety. Down south, my go to food is Gumbo. Had a bowl of the seafood gumbo, which was very good. And then the ribeye steak special with fries. I definitely feel like I could have rolled out of the restaurant after eating all that food. Service was great. The only drawback for me is they are closed on Mondays. I guess everyone needs a day off.

This is my large catfish plate with the sweet potato fries and hush puppies.

This was a surprise. I don't live in Amite LA and I literally took a chance on this place. I wasn't disappointed in the slightest way. The food was Excellent and the wait staff are diligent, hard working, and attentive to the needs of every table. I arrived prior to the evening rush hour and I watched this place fill up during my meal. The locals obviously know about this place. I almost ordered the large Ribeye but opted to go with the large catfish plate since it is after all a catfish restaurant. The hush puppies were absolutely perfect. It's been an extremely long time since I've had any that good. The catfish was so taste that I never used any of the tarter sauce provided. For my potato option I went with the sweet potato fries which were moist and fresh. This is what we call 'slap your mama' kind of cooking. The salad bar is a help (you build it) yourself kind of affair. Even it was excellent. They had great choices at the salad bar. I'll try to include a couple of pictures. Roy - from Natchez MS

But no dance floor and no outdoor seating. Well, anyway, we looked over the menu and decided to try the buffet. There was some good stuff there, and some mediocre. Apparently, the locals love it. They were coming in pretty thick by the time we left. Lots of fried seafood options (including alligator, soft shell crab, and frog legs), boiled shrimp, baked catfish, flounder, and a lot of other meat options. You don't see sauce piquant very often, so I had to try the deer sauce piquant from the buffet. It had good flavor, but not much "piquant." Had to add a little Crystal hot sauce. And the meat was tough and chewy. Needed a few more hours in the pot. The flounder was very good. Best thing I tried. The "Cajun style pork" was good, too - chunks of pork and smoky andouille with pineapple and oranges. Very good. The frog legs, fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, and alligator were all good, too. The fried catfish was muddy and dirty tasting (hate when that happens). If you're hungry, this is a nice place to get your fill of south Louisiana specialties - I could make an entire meal of the frog legs and Cajun style pork.

Sitting right on the river, the views alone are worth the stop--especially around sunset when the water and boats set the perfect Louisiana backdrop. The food is where Reno's really shines, especially the buffet. It's well worth it--hot, fresh, and packed with Southern and seafood favorites that are full of flavor. Everything tastes homemade, not rushed, and the selection makes it easy to find something for everyone. You can tell they keep it stocked and take pride in what they serve. The drinks are cold, the atmosphere is relaxed, and it's the kind of place where you can pull up by boat or car and feel right at home. Friendly staff, a laid-back crowd, and live music on the right nights give it that true river-life vibe that keeps people coming back.
