This place definitely needed an updated review. Met friends from the North Shore here for lunch on a Saturday. Known for their seafood but also for their burgers. The 4 of us opted for the latter. Each couple chose a cheeseburger and a slaw burger. Hand- formed patties. Thick and juicy. The slaw was a great addition flavorwise, but the cheeseburgers were great just as they were. The buns were different: more like square rolls. No complaints. Each came with a huge portion of crinkle fries. Meh. Half of the burgers left in to go containers. Nice friendly service. Had a fine meal here. Was driving through the area and needed some food. They do only take cash but have an atm (requires a pin.) I got the shrimp poboy and husband got the swamp fries. The poboy had good soft bread and a lot of well-crusted-but -not -so-much-you-can't-taste-the-shrimp shrimp. The swamp fries are swampy with a rich soupy gravy. TMy husband had a bowl of gumbo and I had the fried shrimp dinner. The gumbo came with a bowl of rice, coleslaw and toast. There was lots of chicken and sausage. It was perfectly seasoned, not too juicy and messy. Very tasty. The fries were just okay. I got the shrimp and catfish combo. There was a lot of food for my buck. My wife and I stop in Sunday afternoon. When we walked in there was no one by the counter then a lady came out of the back and told to place our order at the counter and they would bring us our order. I was a little skeptical. We ordered a large seafood platter and 2 drinks and sat down. My wife said this place has character and I agreed. They brought our food out and it look great. Stumbled upon this little gem on my way home from Nola today. Located next to the iconic Middendorf's, Fatboy's is absolutely worth a visit. Fatboy's is a family run business just off of the water that serves seafood as fresh as it gets. I ordered a soft shell crab po-boy that was as big as my head for $9 bucks! It was delicious. Tried for first time this weekend. I had the Swamp burger and it was awesome. You can tell the patties are homemade and not from a box. My son had the chili cheese burger that came complete with Fritos. He loved it. The only this that I would change is that the cheese fries came with nacho cheese sauce instead of real cheese. Hands down the best roast beef poboy in Tangipahoa parish. The location map is not correct, it is all the way down by the boat launch at I55 and pass manchac. Not always open so call before you drive all the way down there. My friend had a play that was split one half shrimp and one half oyster and he was also very pleased. My Family and I recently were in Mississippi visiting some relatives. We had planned on going to New Orleans for a day trip and to search out some tasty local cuisine. After getting a late start we found ourselves ready for lunch before we hit "The Big Easy". I was initially excited to stumble upon this place because it had the look and feel of a real authentic down home Louisiana kitchen. The décor was great and the place appeared to be really clean. Unfortunately the food and service left a very bad taste in my mouth. After receiving what was probably one of the "coldest" welcome's I have ever had from the lady working the counter we ordered the fried Alligator and an order of "swamp fries". Not sure what was going on with the Woman working the counter but I have never felt like we were not wanted in an establishment like she made us feel. (should of taken the clue and drove down the road a little farther). Finally we get our gator. It was so tough, flavorless and dry that we could hardly eat it. It literally tasted like it had been sitting in the bottom of the freezer for a year. The fries weren't bad but again they were fries. Don't waste your time here.
