Went and placed large order to go, I asked girl do I need to check this order? She said no I checked it and it was all there. I left and got home, left off my boiled shrimp. Called that night, they said yes its here . I asked for a credit, was told I could have a credit. I said I'll come in Sat morning. I got there they said it will be 20 minutes. I said I don't have 20 min to wait. Just keep the shrimp. I then asked for coke to go. I was charged 3.00+ for small coke. I gave a $5.00 bill she could give me change. I will not be going back. This is a nice place, and the staff is very friendly, but the food is subpar to say the least. The food was okay but the service was absolutely horrible.it took forever to get our food. My cup of gumbo had no meat in it at all and when I told the waitress she offered nothing to fix it. Then my husband and I both ordered the catfish plate, the fish and the fries where literally dripping with grease and to put the icing on the cake we were supposed to have fries and coleslaw with our meal, the waitress never brought the coleslaw out to us, so when we were almost completely finished I asked about it and the waitress told me that I should have reminded her to bring it out to us. I have had people telling me to try this place for 2 years. Finally we decided to do it. I can tell you all you need to know pretty quickly. Let's start with the steaks. Not quality meat. Mine was also not cooked as ordered. It also had absolutely no taste at all. I just didn't eat it, brought it home, seasoned it, and recooked it myself. No one should have to do that. The seafood was not bad. You get a decent amount for your money. Which I believe is why folks recommend this place. The salad was probably the best thing we had. It was fresh and tasty. The "melted butter" that we got for our baked potatoes was some sort of artificial, thick, weird yellow substance. No idea what it was, but it wasn't butter. It was just strange. I will admit, the service was good. That the salad, and the edible seafood earned them the 3 stars above. This is a great place to go for some great seafood. We generally stop sometimes after spending the day boating on the river. The food is always fresh and hot and seasoned to perfection. With all the COVID pandemic happening and places slowly opening back up, things just don't feel the same. Usually, service is top-notch and your food is out in normal time 15-20 minutes. This time it took over an hour to get our food and we seated before two other tables and yet they got their food before us. Yes, I asked where our order was and our server (very polite and apologetic), told us it is being plated but she put all three of her tables in at the same time and it happened to be ours got put in last. Honest mistake. Other than the long wait for our food, everything was great and you definitely get your money's worth. Advice; if you order Charlie's platter. Order it for two people to eat it as it is enough to probably feed 3 people. Also don't order the seafood potato as an appetizer because that is a meal in itself. Sat by Charlie many nights to eat. it was about a 150 mile round trip to eat but ALWAYS worth the trip until tonight My steak was nothing like it has always been No crackers with the salad, No bread with our steak! We are long time Charlie diners. Long before the current owners. The new Charlie's will never match the original. That being said, the transition was bumpy to say the least. But, our previous couple visits have been positive, exception being the dessert case, AVOID THE DESSERT CASE!! Stale cakes that look delicious. Get dessert elsewhere. We went tonight, ordered onion rings as appetizers, then ordered our meal. The meal showed up first, we said we expected our appetizer first, the waitress said, " Yeah, I know, it is what it is, the kitchen is a little 'discombulated' tonight." Was really disappointed tonight when we went for grandsons birthday. The 2 steaks had no flavor,the shrimp & corn soup tasted tart, the cheese stick appetizers had something that looked like mold in some of them, salads were good as usual but they are hard to mess up, and my seafood platter took a while to get. Everyone was almost through eating by the time I got it and brought most of it home with me. Might be a while before we go back. We usually have anywhere from 10 to 20 when we come. Took a poll on a local food page looking for the best seafood platter. Charlie's got the most mentions. So we decided to ride out to see for ourselves. In one of the mentions we were told the onion rings and the stuffed mushrooms were good. This was the best looking plate of onion rings I had seen in a while. Piled up, fresh cut and battered rings of greatness. As far as the stuffed mushrooms, they were big and the sauce on them were delicious. Order came with 4 but only one was left for the pic. Definitely try these mushrooms. We got a #2 seafood platter and a Charlie's seafood platter. The catfish tasted so clean. The shrimp was big and fresh. Not those frozen popcorn shrimp. All seafood is cooked in peanut oil. Both platters came with more than enough of everything to eat. You will be taking to-go boxes. Also got the seafood pasta. Looked really good, but was a big disappointment. This item was the only thing not great. Our waitress, Amber I believe, took great care of us. In the midst of all the madness with Covid-19, I got married and the wife and I decided to treat ourselves to a good meal to-go since we couldn't have our own food or sit down anywhere. I called in a order and asked the girl taking my order if they had anything resembling a wedding cake or something "wedding-y", so she recommended the coconut snowball cake (it was amazing). As I arrived to pay for my meal, I was greeted by the girl who took my order and a guy who said that the Meal was on the house. I've never had a restaurant go above and beyond like that before and I was truly speechless. With all the chaos in the world right now, they found the time to be a shining light in the other darkness that we have seemed to catch ourselves in with all of this mess. Tonight 2/23/24 me and my boyfriend went to Charlie's and we have only been maybe a handful of times properly less than that. When we go we normally tip between 10-15$ cash on our 30$ bill that we have. The last time we were we were short on cash so we tipped what we had and that was that. well tonight 2/23/24 we were treated very rudely. We got to there about 6:30 and didn't leave out till almost 9:00. When we sat down we got our drinks and then told the waitress ( Elizabeth) that we wanted the Charlie plater that took about an hour and half to get. During our meal we were not asked if we needed our drinks refreshed or anything. At the end of our meal I ordered a to go poboy. We waited for 30 minutes before I asked where my food was and all they could tell me was o it's gonna be another almost 2 hours. I said no I want a refund get to the counter to get a refund and all I get is told that we should tip better and then maybe we will get our food quicker and no one likes us there and that she can only give me a refund on a gift card and not my money back. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants. After reading so many negative reviews I felt I had to write one. If you want great fried seafood , and lots of it ,this is your place. The seafood platter at $31 is a bargain because it feeds two and has everything you could want on it. The catfish is awesome and so is the fried shrimp. You get a great salad with it too. After there was a fire the place was redone so it is very nice inside. The steaks are what a reasonable person would expect. If you want a decent steak at a good price , go to Charlie's . If you want Grade A prime beef and want to spend a fortune go to Ruth's Chris. Me , I like Charlie's. Thursday night steaks are $15 bucks. You can't beat that. read more

When I walked in I was greeted by a dog. No kidding. The owners dog I am assuming. We were sited after a 30 minute wait time. The waitress not that pleasant nor focused on us. She barked orders at everyone while I tried 4 times to give my order. I ordered the catfish plate as I was instructed to try. She rushed off as if she didn't have time to be there and I was a nuisance. The food came with her carrying the plates with her thumb on the plate. Tasting the food I was not impressed at all. I had the #1 Seafood (fried fish, fried shrimp, fried oysters). My wife had the 10oz Ribeye. The steak was cooked very good (when a steak is cooked good enough, who needs sauce?). She also had vegetables, bread and starter salad with hers. My platter was 4 NICE sized fish fillets, 4 LARGE oysters and 6 good sized shrimp, hush puppies to die for (has the green onion mix, awesome), fries, bread and a starter salad. Neither one of us could all of our meals so we took plenty home for another meal. I decided to try the bread pudding with rum sauce. Extra Large piece of bread. Awesome taste; has some nuts. Today, my aunt wanted to treat me to lunch on my BD. We had heard good things about Charlie's and decided to make the drive from the MS Gulf Coast where we can get awesome seafood at any number of restaurants. We made the 90-minute drive and arrived a little after 11 am when they opened. We were the fifth table to be seated. We got our beverage quickly. However, several patrons who were seated after us had their orders taken before us. Finally, our waitress came to take our order. We inquired as to the origin of the shrimp and were told they were imported. We inquired as to what kind of fish and was told it was catfish, US pond raised. We placed our order and our salads were brought out a few minutes later. We finished our salads and noticed more patrons who arrived after us were getting their food. After another 20 minutes, I inquired as to why our food was not ready. The waitress replied that when you order anything other than the special, it took longer to prepare. Wait, there were no specials marked on the menu and the waitress did not inform us of any "specials". I looked around the room and saw that all the patrons were having different foods, none of which would be considered specials. Fried seafood platters, combo plates, pasta dishes, etc. Finally, the waitress brought two platters out with our fried seafood and said it would be a bit longer for our fried sweet potato fries. We asked if we could get ketchup and tartar sauce. That took more time to arrive. It was almost 10 minutes later before the fries were placed on the table. Not once did the waitress ask if we need more beverages, napkins, or anything. In fact, the next time we saw her was when she placed the tab on our table. No thank you, please come back, how was your food. NOTHING!!!!! Needless to say, we will not be returning to Charlie's. No matter how good the food is, if the service is lacking, the dining experience is ruined. read more

My husband and I ate here yesterday for our anniversary. We both ordered the 10oz ribeye. He loves the vegetables! That's one of the reason he choose Charlie's. I had the baked potato with mine. This is the third time eating steaks here. First time was awesome! They were seasoned well and the steaks are huge! Second time steaks were horrible. They had no taste and the texture was like cardboard. This time will be the last time for sure! The steaks were huge but again no taste no seasoning. We ask for medium cooked they came out half well done and half medium well and they were dry. Again like eating cardboard. For the plus the sides were good. We are repeat coustomers. EVERYTHING we have gotten here has been excellent! Among our very favorites would be their crab cakes and the stuffed mushroom. Both are topped with the best crab au gratin sauce you would ever want to eat. They also have a seafood appetizer with ho aide tortilla chips from time to time that is excellent. The seafood platters are excellent and steaks are so large that I've seen people order them butterflied! We have never been able t order the steak (due to our love of seafood) however a friend of ours said he could have cut it with a plastic knife and fork if he had to.
