First off, excuse the bite I took out of my fish before taking a photo I was in town to do photography for an event. I drove from Atlanta, GA. I knew when I got to Louisiana that I wanted some good food. I took to Yelp and this was the very first place that popped up. Service was very fast. We only waited 10 minutes for our food. This place is on Airline on the way into LaPlace. I gotta say, it isn't bad. It's a diner type place and that few times we have stopped in, the food was pretty good. I like the fish sandwich. The bread is soft, the catfish is well cooked and seasoned and the veggies are fresh. The Mr. likes the hamburgers. It's got a diner type vibe, but it's comfy and clean. The murals on the wall are bold and fun. I have never had bad service, sometimes they are a little busy and come across as dry. The to go business seems steady. This is a pretty neat, very no frills place in the middle of "nowhere" LaPlace that's good for lunch. I stopped in here in the middle of a Monday and there was no one else here around lunch time. I had already looked over the menu online, so I had an idea of what I wanted. I'm trying to eat a bit healthier, for now, so I got the three piece grilled fish with a side of red beans and rice and a side of cole slaw. I can't remember what type of fish comes on the platter, but it was a kind I had never heard of. It wasn't catfish, that much I do know. I want to say Basso- not Bass. Does that ring any bells? Anyway! The platter was about $10, so you really can't beat that. The fish was okay. It wasn't really seasoned at all and I'm not sure why they do that, but I assume it's because they get a lot of different folks in there and they don't want to step on anyone's "taste toes". It did come topped with a lot of onions, which I found kind of strange. I added little lemon and salt to it, and that helped, but it didn't blow me away. The red beans were actually really tasty and the cole slaw was pretty good too. I boxed my leftovers up and took them home. When I reheated the fish I coated it in butter and lemon and wrapped it in foil and popped it in the oven for a bit and it made a world of difference, flavor wise. My point being: the fish is good if it has some stuff added to it. They have a lot of different food options here and I'm almost positive that the fried catfish platter would have been better than my grilled fish platter. Live and learn. Pay for an extra cup its worth the 50 cents. The young lady who took our order was the sweetest thing. The only reason I took off a star is because the shrimp to bread ratio was off. Yelp hours say open till 9pm, google says open till 9pm, the sign in the window says open till 9pm...I walk in at 8:05pm, all the chairs are up on the tables and the girl behind the counter says they're not taking anymore orders. Wow now this is one of those hidden gems that you find on the side of the road and are just so happy that you stopped! Their menu is Dailey fairly limited. DON'T let that dissuade you!
