When I found myself in the area again this week, I decided to give it a shot and relive that experience. What a change. Guess they were right. I remember a delicious crawfish étouffée that I had when I went the first time which is no longer on the menu. It's mostly just fried food and hamburgers. I ordered the overstuffed shrimp Poboy that the woman said was the most popular item on the menu. It was overstuffed all right, but the shrimp were hard as rubber and tasted like they had been cooked in week old oil. It was an hour before closing so maybe that was it but that is not an excuse. I'll still think about that delicious crawfish étouffée that I had years and years ago, and try my hardest to forget this terrible meal. The Poboy itself was around $15 and the fries were two dollars extra. To their credit, they were crinkly fries, which are always my favorite and they were delicious. I wish I would've never went back and kept my memories, but I did. Perhaps I'll give it another shot one day. I hear the gumbo is good, which was the special of the day, but it was too hot for that all the day I went. Lots of interesting things inside, it looks like a roadside attraction almost. I can't understand why there's not more restaurants in this area as they are several plantations that people most likely go to visit and would likely decide to have lunch somewhere. Almost anything would blow this one out the water. I still dig the ambience. The alligator dressed in a chef suit, the interesting painting on the bathroom wall, the old country/Cajun feel but aside from that, what happened, B & C Seafood?

It was good, but tasted like chicken fingers. However, I had to try alligator before I left New Orleans. For my entree, I got a fried soft shell crab sandwich on a bun. On prior trip to the area, Helene and I have had the opportunity to visit some old plantations and still find it fascinating... It's all about the history, not always good though. The Oak Alley home was originally a sugar plantation and of course, built by and relied on enslaved men, women and children to run efficently. That's always part of the history that I find most disturbing. You start out in the main house and the tour inside the mansion runs about a half hour. There is a a lot to see and absorb inside. They take you through all the rooms and showed us the different details for making each room unique. I have no photos inside the home as we were not allowed photographs. After going through the main house you could wandeer the grounds for while and view the slave quarters. Fascinating and still very disturbing. There is a restaurarant here as well as the gift shop [of course,] where you could also getting something refreshing to drink. Since it was close to 100 degrees, anything was good and welcomed. The grounds are just beautiful and packed with history. I would urge anyone who comes down to this area to do at least one of these tours, it's an incredible journey.
