I would give it a 3/5 only because the whole Bao itself was bland, maybe if the vegan spam was marinated in a glaze would taste better! My friends and I had no room for dessert unfortunately. Overall service was great, and the restaurant is beautiful! The lighting at the bar was perfect to get those yelp worthy/social media worthy pictures!

Instead of confirming the order or asking any questions, the first thing I heard from the cook was, "Get her card first." The cashier then immediately said, "Give me your card." Only after my payment was processed did they hand me my food and say, "Thank you." I completely understand that businesses need to protect themselves and ensure orders are paid for before they're released. That's not the issue. It's the way it was handled. As a customer, it felt like I was being treated as if I might take the food and run, rather than being welcomed into a local, family-owned business. A simple greeting, confirming the order, and then politely requesting payment would have made all the difference. Great customer service and protecting your business can absolutely go hand in hand. The food was outstanding, but the experience made me feel unwelcome. Sadly, because of the customer service, I don't see myself returning.

But after coming back the very next day and having several dishes taste noticeably different, I had to take a few stars away. I'm not sure if there were different chefs, different prep, or something else going on behind the scenes, but consistency is such a key part of a great restaurant experience, especially when you're paying restaurant prices. They have both indoor seating as well as patio seating, but it was a hot-ish day out so we opted for indoor. Both indoor and outdoor areas are decorated beautifully, with lots of greenery outside and high ceilings and more greenery inside. We shared two items: Whole cauliflower ($14) Chicken shawarma plate ($22) I've heard their cauliflower is really good and knew I had to try it out. The actual roasted cauliflower is pretty good, but what makes this dish really shine is the lemon tahini dressing. It was like crack! The chicken shawarma plate was delicious too. We got it with a side of seasoned fries and roasted beet dip, and everything was so good. The chicken itself is very flavorful, and once you add the garlic toum sauce, it's *chefs kiss*. Portions were pretty big, and we didn't end up finishing either dish. I packed the remaining chicken with the leftover tahini dressing from the cauliflower, and it made for some pretty yummy leftovers later that night!!

But the lemongrass beef is pretty good, firm and chewy not spicy. One of the others in my party got the eastern duck soup, which has a stronger soup flavor, you can taste the anise. It also has shiitake mushrooms. It came with veggie drumsticks, on an actual stick, but just takes like soy protein, doesn't really taste like duck. I tried a bit of Cali pho too, which was mild but pleasant, it has a ton of vegetables. Overall I'd give it more of a 3.5/5, there were certainly some items that could've used better seasoning/flavoring, but I do appreciate the amount of options that are suitable for vegetarians and actually being able to enjoy noodle soups that would usually have been meat-based.
