The best Pecan Pie!
Vanessa C.

Stopped in for dessert on a girls weekend in NOLA! The pecan pie is legit!! That's what we go for...the pecan Pie! We sat at the bar and the bartender was great!!

10 years ago when I first came to Mr. B's, Brett was my waiter. He always goes above and beyond. Finally, 10 years later I had the privilege of Brett again! He is very knowledgeable, friendly and funny. Everyone at Mr. B's is good, but Brett goes above and beyond. I hope it doesn't take another 10 years to cross paths.

Fried Green tomatoes covered with crawfish in a tasty sauce - one of our new favorites - so delicious!

Mr. B's has been one of our favorite New Orleans restaurants for the past 20 years. Love the fun and friendly vibe and service, especially at the bar (thanks Chad!) Wevalways get the Barbecued shrimp - the sauce is amazing! Served with a loaf of bread for dipping up all the deliciousness, and a bib! The fried oysters and crispy outside, tender inside, and new favorite is the fried green tomatoes with crawfish on top; wow! Great flavor, crispy cornmeal crust: so good. Royal salad is good; we usually like the gumbo ya ya, but it wasn't as good this time; the couple next to us who were locals thought the same. That's ok; everything else was spot on. We bought their cookbook almost 20 years ago and have made dozens of their recipes, but even better to enjoy them in the heart of the French Quarter at Mr. B's!

Blackened redfish with crab.

Had a wonderful experience here. Inside was buzzing and fun while StPaddy's day revelers drifted by the windows in a Bourbon Street type chaos! Service was fantastic, a very experienced person who lit up to share favorite dishes and recommendations. The seafood gumbo is deep, dark and rich with a prevailing flavor of file. The server recommended the red fish, blackened with crab. Elegant with the spirit of NO ringing through.

We dined at Mr. B's in New Orleans recently as a family and had a fabulous dining experience. Our waiter, Rashid, was a great guide through the menu. We tried the BBQ shrimp and egg rolls for appetizers, both of which were fabulous and so tasty. For a main, I had the beef short rib, which was so delicious. Overall, I had a great time and meal at Mr. B's and would recommend it as a upscale, oldschool meal in the French Quarter!

Pork chop- dry

We came from sf Bay Area to try Mr. B's Bistro. We had a party of 12. Our server was great! His name was Steven. We had a couple of old fashions, lemon drops, and water. The bread came out warm and was delicious. I had the filet, but it came out cold and the taste was just ok. It had a different taste. I wouldn't order again. My husband had the crab and corn soup.. he said it was ok. I tased the soup and it wasn't hot. My father in law had the pork chop. It was dry. Our friends had the shrimp and grits. They loved it. All in all, the server was great , the ambiance was great, but the food was just ok. My father in laws pork chop was also not very warm. I understand we had a big party, but the food needs to be warm. Experience was ok. I wouldn't go back.

I always enjoy my time at Mr. B's, and this visit was no exception. I stopped in for a solo date before heading to a show at The Saenger Theater. I arrived around 5:40 p.m. on a Saturday because I wanted to sit at the bar. While the bar was already packed, I was seated immediately at a table for one. I ordered the same items as my last visit, and everything was just as good as I remembered. The pear cosmo was perfectly balanced, the fried oysters were crisp and flavorful, and the bacon-wrapped shrimp and grits were rich and satisfying. Service was fast and friendly, which made the experience even better. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and hopefully I'll snag a seat at the bar next time.

The best place for dinner in the French Quarter! This resturant is literally steps away from the Hotel Montelone, so it is truly a French Quarter gem. We made reservations for 5, right when they open for dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately. We were dressed for an upscale restaurant while others were dressed in jeans, so I don't think they are strict on a dress code. When we're were seated by our host, our server came right out and got our drink order. I didn't drink but my friend got a glass of white wine, and she said it was delicious. When he brought out the wine, he brought a sleeve of a loaf of bread. I didn't love this presentation and the fact that we had to cut our own bread, it wasn't already cut for us. It also wasn't steaming hot, like you would expect bread to be. We weren't fans of the bread, but we ate it because we were hungry. For appetizers, we got truffle fries and the pork belly bites. These are the best truffle fries I have EVER had. It was a HUGE serving of fries and tons of delicious-ness. People at other tables saw our fries and immediately ordered some for their table. I am still dreaming about these true truffle fries. The pork belly bites were also perfect and I could have had another three servings of those. The pork belly bites are a smaller portion. For an entree, I got the chicken and my friend got the barbecue shrimp and grits. My entree was huge and I could only take a few bites. My friend devoured hers because she said it was so good. The enteee come out on a plate with a lid and they lift it for you! We had to get dessert, so we got the bread pudding. It was a huge piece of bread with delicious rum like sauce over it. We somehow ate it because it was so good but we were so full. This place is so convient, clean and has a great amount of options at great prices. Will always be a consideration for me when I go to NOLA!

Seafood gumbo

First off - this is a great place for fine dining! The staff were excellent. Kaleb was our waiter and he was honest, funny and great. We loved getting to know him. We had a reservation for 8 so definitely get a reservation because it was packed on a Saturday night. The ambiance was beautiful and elegant. Expect a long dinner because this is fine dining and so food will come out slower than a casual restaurant in the French Quarter. The food is where I took off a Star. I'll start with the good: -The duck spring rolls - 5/5! Must try! -The bbq shrimp - 5/5 - OMG so delicious! The sauce was so flavorful and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. -The trout entree- amazing! Delicious! Well seasoned and cooked. -The duck entree - my favorite other than the bbq shrimp. It was so tender and melts in your mouth. What I didn't like at all: the seafood gumbo. Very very bitter. Everyone at the table who tried it agreed with me. It was awful and the worst I had. I sent it back and luckily wasn't charged for it. Overall- the dinner was fantastic!

Based on a friend's recommendation, we headed to Mr B's on Saturday night... Seated with reservations immediately (a good sign!) Ordered the pear cosmo and an old fashion. Both strong offerings from the bar. But the drink winner was the non-alcoholic lux dreamsicle. Duck spring rolls as an appetizer was great! Entries: * shrimp and grits - sent back 1) cold - shrimp and grits were both cold and inedible * filet mignon - perfectly prepared, potatoes were good as week. Spinach was eh (flavorless mush) * honey ginger glazed pork chop - 1) dry. Ordered medium (as recommended) and it was over cooked Dessert: Spiced orange cheesecake - cake was good, but the sauce was odd. Easy to scrape away. Again, Brennan's management group is either all too familiar with food not coming from the kitchen as ordered and doesn't seem to care. No one from management came to our table to try to repair the situation... and our guest who ordered the shrimp and grits went to bed hungry.

Pork and turkey meals

We booked our Thanksgiving dinner at Mr. B's back in September, and it was absolutely worth the planning. Our 6pm reservation was confirmed the day before, and when we walked in at 5:53, we were seated immediately at the most perfect corner table where we could see the entire restaurant, we even sat beside the little Ronald Reagan plaque, which made us feel extra special. Our waiter, Logan, was a young, funny, incredibly hardworking server who never stopped moving. Every staff member was smiling, hustling, and managing a completely packed dining room with a line out the door, yet no one ever made us feel rushed. Logan was phenomenal full of personality, thoughtful suggestions, and truly exceptional service. My boyfriend and I shared the seafood gumbo, and the kitchen split it into two cups for us, which was such a considerate touch. It had a serious kick and ended up being the best gumbo of our entire trip. We also shared the pork loin and the turkey dinner from the Thanksgiving menu, swapping sweet potatoes for Yukon potatoes. My boyfriend swore it was the best stuffing he's ever had, and the turkey was so moist with fantastic gravy we cleaned our plates. He enjoyed two Old Fashioneds, and I had a pear cosmo; the glass was a little warm from fast dish turnover, but honestly everything else was so great it barely mattered. Even though I have dairy and chocolate allergies and we were already stuffed, Logan still brought out the sorbet so I could enjoy a safe dessert and he was right. It was heaven. Truly the perfect ending to a perfect holiday meal. Make the reservation; this NOLA classic has its reputation for a reason.

Barbecue shrimp

Third time's the charm...this is trip number three to New Orleans for me, and I've been dying to try the barbecue shrimp at Mr. B's after hearing how good it was. Good doesn't begin to describe it. It was phenomenal! The buttery sauce and perfectly cooked shrimp were to die for. The fried green tomato appetizer was perfect and not too filling. Our waitress, Dominique, was sweet, friendly and attentive, and she made a great meal even better. If you want scrumptious food and a great dining experience , go to Mr. B's, ask to sit in Dominique's section and order the barbecue shrimp. You will not be disappointed!

We got the duck spring rolls and they were definitely worth the hype. We also got the gumbo yaya and we did not like it. I think it's a personal preference. We do not like the dark roux. I got a mocktail But for $12 NO alcohol. Would not get again. Not worth it. 90% ice. Also.. did not get what I asked for. The service was great when the guy was there. But he took a really long time to come back in between checking on us. The place was pretty crowded. You have to kind of scrooge your chair in so people can get around you and it was pretty loud. But for a Thursday night, you could still hear your party. It was only three of us. The bathrooms are really nice. They're down the stairs. All in all. We would come back again.

Is this place more on the pricey side? Thank you for all the responses. It won't let me respond back…

Yes , it was a little pricey. It wasn't fancy. Very comfortable and the food was pretty good.

Where is wheel chair access?

Thru rear entrance from solari garage.

Hubby and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary in Nola - is this place a good choice for our anniversary dinner?

Absolutely!

Do they still give you a FULL LOAF of french bread for the bbq shrimp? ate bbq shrimp here multiple times in a weekend back in 2015 and wondering if the portions, flavors, presentation changed; i have a 7-person squad to bring this time.?

They did have the bread not sure if the Portion size are the same since this was the first time I ate there

Can someone tell me the dress code for women? We have reservations but will only be in town for 24 hours, so we will be out and about. I'm hoping to avoid getting completely dressed to go to dinner.

Nice Casual clothing is fine. It’s the kind of restaurant where people can be dressed up but most will be casual.

Do the Sunday jazz musicians come around to tables? What's an appropriate tip?

Yep! They do. It doesn't matter where you sit at the restaurant, they'll make their way there at some point.

Is there a Saturday brunch? And is jazz music offered then too?

No. They have a special lunch menu. Commander's Palace has a jazz brunch on Saturday and Sunday that I highly recommend.

Are veggie options available?

This is a meat and seafood heavy menu going for New Orleans Classics. There's Fried Eggplant on the Lunch appetizer menu and a Mushroom Raviolo on the Dinner appetizer menu available but I don't believe this restaurant caters to vegetarians.… Read more

Is this restaurant family-friendly? Is there a dress code?

Yes, it is family friendly. It is an upscale restaurant so I would say a collared shirt, no flip flops.

What are the options for vegetables on the side?

To the best of my knowledge, they don't offer ala carte vegetable choices. Different Veggies are served with each entree, plus some dishes feature "Vegetables Of The Evening" based on seasonal options.… Read more

Is this really the best spot for authentic barbecued shrimp?

Yes. Best in the entire city.

Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!
