We love New Orleans, and the times we've visited in the last decade, we've made our way to Kingfish. It's a gorgeous space with a solid, tasty menu and good service. We enjoyed our entrees (ribeye and shrimp & grits), as well as a Pimm's cup, but were unable to order a gin fizz, as our very elderly (but hard working) server seemed to misunderstand what we were looking for. Mind you, it's on the menu. So I'm not sure what a blender or bananas had to do with it (a direct quote). All in all, I recommend this place if you want a fancier than average place to dine. read more

It ended up being a great choice because the atmosphere and music gave us a good welcoming experience. Dinner here was the perfect way to end our last night in New Orleans. Every single dish & drink was a 10/10. There's countless gumbo spots around, but theirs really stood out -- especially with the duck added in. The frog legs were also superb, I could drink the sauce they came in. I have been to New Orleans plenty of times for vacation and formals. This was our last dinner stop for the fraternity formal weekend coming all the way from Texas A&M. I have Cajun blood, so the Lousiana taste buds run in the family. The fish was delicious. It was my favorite meal of the weekend. My date and I got the same thing and we loved it. Kingfish 337 Chartres St I had arrived in New Orleans a day earlier, staying at the Crowne Plaza - Astor on Canal Street. During my five nights - here to attend the 2026 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival - I made a point to seek out French Quarter venues, including those on and near Frenchmen Street. I spent three evenings during last year's Festival exploring this area, discovering jazz and food experiences in what I believe is the single finest street scene in the world dedicated to heritage jazz. Kingfish did not charge me a cover, and there was ample seating when I arrived on a Thursday night around 7 p.m., although it was close to full by the time I left an hour later. The building has an open-air front and the band occupies a raised platform near the windows and doors, ensuring that their music is available to all who draw near. I compliment Kingfish for its classy and informative website, with a note: the actual venue is relaxed and not at all fussy. The website may give the impression that the target audience are in the BMW set, but inside the vibe is more like a VW bus, circa 1970. And that's a good thing! I ordered the Crawfish & Shrimp Etouffee (Louisiana crawfish, gulf shrimp, steamed rice, green onions $27), and it hit the spot. There were so many delicious options...from the appetizers to mains to dessert...it was hard to choose just one! I began the meal with the Hurricane Huey and the Fried Green Tomatoes & Shrimp Remoulade; fried green tomatoes and/or deviled eggs are a must-eat wherever I go, so I knew this was happening! I reluctantly offered to share them with my friends. Only one person took me up on it; I think most of my friends knew I was planning to inhale them alone... And for good reason because the fried green tomatoes were amazing! Full, but unwilling to give up, I ordered the Pepper Jelly Glazed Pork Chop. It was cooked to perfection and the twice baked potato was worth risking the dairy allergy. 11/10 would do it again. The bartenders know how to make a memorable drink. On a cold night in NOLA we walked into this warm spot. It was warm in temperature as well hospitality. Our server was especially friendly and welcoming. The classic cocktail Vieux Carré wasn't on the menu but our waiter assured me they knew how to make it. Indeed they did. Food is a modern Creole. We came as walk-in's for lunch while we were waiting for our hotel check-in time. I usually like to be prepared and have an idea of where we're eating ahead of time, but absolutely no regrets about finding this spot! We ordered the fried catfish and also the crabcake Benedict and they definitely set the BAR for expectations on food for my first time in New Orleans! I typically forget the names of places we eat at on vacation, but I had to look this place up on my bank statement to make sure that I could say that our server, Melissa, was FANTASTIC. Mannn most French Quarter restaurants are a hit or miss, but Kingfish? Omg. My friend and I actually ended up walking in just as they were opening on a Sunday for brunch. We decided to sit at the bar to get a little food in our system before hitting the second line, and let me tell you, sitting at the bar was the best decision. Ms. Asia did her big one! She was so sweet and funny, kept the conversation flowing, and most importantly...kept the drinks bottomless (because let's be real, that's the whole point of brunch lol). I'm pretty sure they were tired of us by the time we left. The rest of the staff were hilarious and super friendly too, it felt like hanging out with family you actually like. I ordered the jambalaya risotto. I'm not gonna lie, it looked a little suspect when it came out, but mannnn, the flavor was crazy. So good, I started telling people to pull up before I even left the restaurant. We got there when it was still quiet, but by the time we left, I couldn't tell if the crowd showed up or if we were the noise (probably both). We had just arrived to New Orleans and were staying nearby at the New Orleans Marriott. We stopped in for a late lunch and were shown to a table overlooking Chartres Street. Were we then greeted by a server who asked us if we were ready to order. We just sat, so we stated we needed a couple minutes. Then barely a minute later, a totally different server, dressed to the nines, walked up and asked us for our drink order. We told this server that we just told the other server that we had just sat and didn't know our drinks selections yet. She said okay and said she'd be back a few minutes later. The first server showed up and took our drink order. Then the second one (dressy) showed up to take our drink order. We again told her we ordered our drinks with the other server already. The first server brought our drinks and then asked if we were ready to order. We said we were and started to place said food order. The second server (dressy) shows up to take our food order. Then they began arguing about who is to take out order right in front of us. They argued about whose shift was ending versus whose was starting. It was awkward, Then they turned to us to ask who we'd like to order from (swear to G-d) as is we're the tiebreaker or something. We just said we'd order from the server who took our drink order. That sent the pouty dressy server to get the manager. What? That was crazy. The manager came over and asked if we wanted an different server. Um, we just want to order lunch. My wife got the Fried Green Tomatoes and Shrimp Remoulade and I got the shrimp po' boy. Both were very tasty and they place wasn't too expensive. Had we known we were coming for dinner and a show (the show being the Kingfish Kitchen rendition of the Hatfields and McCoys as played by the afternoon server and the evening server) we would have better prepared ourselves. Went for bottomless, ended up having some pretty good food. Inside is nice, very much old school quarter dark wood restaurant. Got the bottomless mimosas, with blood orange juice. The waitress was on point and fast with the refills. Exactly what you want for bottomless. For food we ordered a candied pecan cinnamon roll to split as an app. They said it would take 10 minutes which was fine. It ended up not coming out until well after we were done with our mains, but they apologized and comped it so no harm no foul and it was delicious. The kingfish n grits was a so good. It's not what I expected. They don't have a dress code so I didn't expect it to have the ambiance of an upscale restaurant. It's one of those places you'd dress nice to. It's dimly lit. Great ambiance for a fancy dinner. Good thing we were dressed nice. We had reservations at 6pm and arrived around 5:30pm and were seated immediately. We were placed near the bathroom and kitchen. I suggest We ordered from the menu and didn't know they served the Revellion dinners until after we ordered. There was a card in the table tucked between the candle and salt and pepper shakers that we saw as we were waiting for our appetizer. It would have been nice if the waitress had mentioned that they served the Revellion dinners until set menus. We ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer. It was topped with shrimp and a delicious sauce. I would order it again. For the main dish I ordered the fettuccine and blackened scallops. I was afraid it would be too spicy but it wasn't. It was just the right amount of spice. We also ordered the jambalaya risotto, an an appetizer that we had as a main course. My husband really liked it. It was a bit on the spicy side. It was crazy but i want to say that the staff we dealt with were professional, polite and very professional in a tough situation. Our server was amazing while handling a large number of tables, the food was hot and delicious... try the blackened scallops and the ambience was great. The bar personnel were awesome and the authentic Ramos Gin Fizz I enjoyed was traditional and perfectly prepared. One of the best cocktails I've had in Nola. If you plan to dine out on a major holiday please be prepared to wait a little, expect some bumps in the road and remember these people are working hard for you. Kingfish Kitchen and Cocktails in the French Quarter is a must visit restaurant if in New Orleans. You enter into a small bar area and find the dining area tucked behind the bar. This dining room has its own little bar, exposed stone walls, and lots of photography. It made for a well lit, but intimate dining room. Since we weren't very hungry we decided to just have cocktails and an entree. My companion ordered the Mint to be Spiced Mojito I tried the Gardenhead. Both drinks had all the flavors in descriptions making a well balanced taste in every sip. My companion ordered the seared scallops with fettuccine. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which has a Crystal hot sauce based gravy. The scallops were perfection; well seared yet buttery and complemented by the Cajun spiced fettuccine. It was an amazing bite. I was a bit concerned my Shrimp and Grits with Andouille sausage might be too spicy because while I like spice, I don't usually eat hot sauce. I really enjoyed my dish. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. They were tender tail on shrimp that had started to pick up the flavor of the gravy. The gravy itself had a medium heat with a bit of a slow burn, but also captured the flavor of the andouille sausage. When the heat got a little bit much, a bite or two of the grits tamped down the heat making me wanna dive back into those spicy bites. Our server, Kimani was fun and attentive. Nice dinner at kingfish! Came on a Thursday evening, and it wasn't busy at all. While the food took a little longer than I would have expected to come out, the service was super accommodating. They made a kids grilled cheese for my daughter even though it wasn't on the kids menu, and brought it out with the appetizer (which if you have kids, you know is crucial). The portions were very generous, and everything was very good. I tried the crawfish bread app, and got the bbq shrimp po boy. The po boy was HUGE, and very tasty. We stopped in here for happy hour on a Friday afternoon and everything was spectacular. We sat at the bar and the bartender was incredibly friendly and fun. We ordered some drinks from their happy hour menu. I went with the rosé and my boyfriend got the mule. Both drinks were tasty. We also tried the duck andouille gumbo as a happy hour appetizer and it was so delicious! The happy hour prices were great! We will definitely come back because we really want to try the brunch menu.
