Some restaurants lure you in with advertising. Cornet lured us in with a plate of food. My husband Jordan and I were walking down Bourbon Street when we passed by Cornet and saw two ladies sitting by the open window. One of them had a platter in front of her that literally made me stop in my tracks. I looked at Jordan and said, "We're turning around." Best decision we've made on this trip. We ordered the Cajun Platter with red beans, jambalaya rice, fried catfish, and grilled sausage. When I tell you this was one of the best meals I've had since arriving in New Orleans, I mean it. Every bite was packed with flavor. The catfish was perfectly fried, the sausage was delicious, and the red beans and jambalaya rice brought everything together into the kind of meal you dream about later. The food alone would earn five stars, but the service made the experience even better. Our bartender,Dee, had the most beautiful smile and welcomed us with that genuine New Orleans warmth. Every time she called us "baby," it felt like being welcomed into someone's home. That's the kind of hospitality you can't teach--it's authentic, and it made us feel right at home. Bourbon Street has no shortage of places to eat and drink, but Cornet stands out. Cornet was a fantastic stop during a girls' trip with some of my favorite humans! We were seated immediately and chose a table on the balcony, which made for the perfect New Orleans experience. This place is actually REALLY good. The rice and beans were so good and I had some alligator bites that were reat, fried just right. The jambalaya was also good. From the guy on thee street trying to pull you in to the waitress, everyone was nice and accommodating. We had dinner here last night. We decided to order a bunch of things to share, which worked out perfectly and was more than enough food for the two of us. The crab cakes were delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn they came with fried green tomatoes - my friend ordered them and I didn't pay much attention to them in the menu... we don't recall what the sauce on the crab cakes was, it had crawfish in it and we were scraping it off the plate it was so delicious! The Ceasar salad was phenomenal! Between the dressing and the croutons we couldn't get enough! The Jubilee shrimp was good. I really enjoyed it, the sauce had a little kick to it, but not an overwhelming burn. My friend wasn't a fan of the sauce on the shrimp. But we liked the crisp breading on them! Stopped into The Coronet for a light dinner based off name alone since we were at the Jazz museum ealier in the day. Really cute tie to Louis Armstrong. We stopped in solely because they were advertised on a screen saver on our television in the room at Hampton Inn & Suites on Canal Street. We went upstairs and ordered a blueberry vodka drink that was in a giant glass serving container behind the bar. Pricey drink, $31 for 2 of them, but it was a tasty drink. We went outside and found a 2 top table on the balcony (the last one) and began to enjoy our cocktail and sights from above. This is a great spot to people watch for certain. The vibe here is pretty laid back as it is with most places in the French quarter. We enjoyed our drink, our conversations and then we went off to Desire Oyster bar for happy hour: This is a clean place with marginally friendly staff. There was a lot of live music at the surrounding locations, but they were competing with each other, so we would get Elvis, John Denver, and Louis Armstrong all at the same time. The food was excellent. We split the beans and rice and a side of fries. Both were delicious and it was more food than we could eat (but we have small appetites). Went in during non-busy hours. Sat upstairs inside, the only patrons inside. Waitress took awhile to take our order, didn't even offer us water when we sat, so we were there about 7-10 minutes waiting to be acknowledged. Ordered crab cakes (which were great) and a Cesar salad. After the 3rd bite of my salad I noticed hair in it. I felt the staff didn't do much to fix the situation, other than offer to take the salad off the bill, which they should have done anyway since I didn't eat it. I appreciated the lazy Susan with sauces on it, as I doused it in mayo. The fish may have been frozen but the flavor was still pretty good. Table for 2 for light lunch We've been here before, about 2 years ago, and I remembered it being one of our favorites. We entered and saw the sign saying the 2nd floor was open, so we definitely went upstairs. There was a hostess waiting, and we told her we would like a table on the balcony. I ended up having to go look for him, and he followed me back to the table to finally take our order. I ordered the Jucifer Hazy IPA from Gnarly Barley Brewing, and Wifey ordered a Blue Moon. For food, we decided to share the Flambeaux Fries. The description sounded great, fries covered with cheese and pulled pork. Our table was perfect. We could look over the balcony and hear all the sounds of Bourbon Street. The food came out pretty quickly. The dish itself was very, very good. The pulled pork was seasoned well with a nice little kick, not too hot, just right. Even Wifey, who doesn't really like spicy food, enjoyed it. Next time I visit I definitely have to order the Cornet Bread Pudding. The menu made it look great and I love bread pudding. This could have easily been a 5 star review, but our server was too distracted and spent a lot of time chatting with other staff members. This place (at the time of our dining on Ja 31 2025) has/had 3.5 stars; that is about right and fair I think based on our experience today. I'm saying so simply based on the quality of the food we had. Coming from the Mile Hight City (Denver to be exact), the southern hospitality in this city known by its moniker, "Big Easy" is so luring especially on Bourbon Street. The guy who was standing on the corner of Bourbon Street and St. Peter Street got our attention with a menu. His friendly and welcoming demeanor simply could not be ignored. We were hungry. My daughter and I were like, "Sure, why not?" He took us to the second-floor balcony for a nice street view of the Bourbon Street. Despite the fact that we were so overdue for lunch (4:00pm), we wanted to eat light with no alcohol (well, my daughter doesn't drink so this only applies to me.) We set our eyes on 1) Fried Alligator (app) and 2) Crawfish Etouffe so we ordered just that. Our waiter, Terrance, was so above and beyond. His attentiveness was top-notch. We wanted to split everything so when we explained that to him he kindly asked the chef to split the Crawfish Etouffe into two different bowls so it would be easier for us to eat (so that is how it came out; this was his decision (asking the chef to split it, we didn't even ask him to do so.) He also asked us if we needed spoons for the Etouffe (to eat something like Etouffe, a spoon is definitely easier than a fork.) I wasn't a virgin to a Fried Alligator dish; I had had it at an African restaurant in Tokyo back in my heyday while I was still living there. Like I thought it tasted like chicken back then, my opinion still remained the same after eating it at Cornet. Well, some may disagree with the way I am describing it but it really doesn't have any distinct flavor so hence "tastes like chicken" description to describe it that it's pretty easy to consume. Now Crawfish is/was a different thing for me. Although it wasn't bad, I also thought that I'd never order crawfish ever again at any restaurant. It tasted a bit "gamy" to me (like eating some wild animal meat.) Although the stew part was nice and buttery, I couldn't get used to the funny or eccentric (almost) gamy flavor of it. It was also a bit chewy. This was a pass for me. Cornet itself is not a bad restaurant in any way. If I ever go back here, I will just have to order something different, something more mainstream like PoBoys or Gumbo. read more

The Mardi Gras Gods must have been thinking of me. While my trip to New Orleans was weeks before the main parade, I was not aware that there were numerous Mardi Gras parades in those weeks leading to the main event. So, I took the opportunity to secure a balcony ticket at the Cornet ($235 for 3 hours), for an afternoon parade that would pass its location on Bourbon Street. The deal included an open bar and an all you can eat menu of rice & beans, jambalaya, gumbo and chicken & rice. This was a private set up on the second floor that also included a DJ. There was direct balcony access. Beads were available for purchase in $5 and $10 packets. Visibility was pristine, you were there in the midst of it all, but on the balcony, away from the crowds below. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, it was definitely a party to remember. Food choice, though limited, was good. Service from the staff was also well executed. A major snag, however, was that they oversold tickets (even though they advertised that they do not). As a result, when it was parade time to move to the balcony (adjoining the bar and food area), there was no first row room for everyone. You needed to be strategic, to secure a spot, if you wished to throw beads to the crowds below. To make this happen, you had to time your food and restroom breaks wisely, if you wished to make full use of your high priced ticket and be part of the action. read more

Cornet had been a tradition of mine for several years when visiting the Big Easy, and this particular visit may have been my best ever (which i didn't think was possible). I chose to sit at the bar since dining solo, and the service by Kristeen was totally benchmark in so many ways. Thanks BIG time, Kristeen, for making the dining experience better than at other locations during those busy days in the early part of Mardi Gras. My one surprise was about the actual size of a 'large beer' which I was not expecting, but I did finish it all with enough time to do so. My food was perfection and a few seated nearby ordered the same due to seeing my plate. It was a great visit to Cornet, and I will certainly continue the tradition on my next trip to NOLA. One of our tour guides mentioned coming through here not only because the food and drinks are good, but it's "where Louie Armstrong's career began." BOURBON STREET CRAB CAKES: For the price, this is a bargain! Each order comes with 4. Didn't even need the dash of lemon, but it changes the flavor profile to a different level. The crab flavor was the star here and not too many fillers. We enjoyed this app as well. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 3. Average at best. VALUE: 4. Even more especially with the discount! PARKING: Street.
