Definitely a must stop place well in NOLA. . Our waitress did a great job however, someone else brought our food and got it all mixed up leaving two of us with nothing to eat and someone else at our table with our food. After the two that got their food and were halfway done eating, they discovered that they had given one of the plates to the wrong person. They asked me to take a piece of chicken off of the other person's plate and then brought everything else from our order in individual small bowls. The food is extraordinary. But watch out for that spice if you're not a spicy food person.
Coop's Place was one of those unexpected gems you hope to stumble across while traveling. After asking our bartender at Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar where to find some great fried food, this was the recommendation and it absolutely delivered. Our bartender, Kattai, made the experience even better. She was funny, engaging, and genuinely welcoming, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay awhile. Great service can elevate a meal, and she certainly did. ( I hope I got her name correct because she definitely deserves the recognition!) If you're looking for white tablecloth dining, this isn't it. Coop's has that dive bar charm, and that's exactly what makes it special. We ordered the catfish po' boy, and it was phenomenal, crispy, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavor. It wasn't just the best thing we ate at Coop's; it was arguably the best dish we had during our entire Fourth of July getaway to New Orleans. Sometimes the best meals aren't found in the fanciest restaurants, and Coop's Place is proof of that. Great food, cold drinks, authentic New Orleans vibes, and outstanding hospitality make this an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be back.
Good simple local style food in the french quarter. there's a lot of construction in the area so be aware of the parking situation. The seafood gumbo wasn't my favorite. I usually like my gumbo thicker. The chicken was delicious and perfectly fried though.
We heard such great things about this place, we decided to try it out for dinner one night. It's not much to look at when you go inside, there's a bar and some tables. We were seated immediately and our server, Adam came right over to take our drink order. When he brought us our drinks, he took our food order. I ordered the breaded mushrooms as an app and my husband ordered the fried alligator. For entrees my husband ordered the Rabbit Jambalaya and I ordered the fried chicken. The food was amazing! Everything was definitely on point. The chicken was perfectly fried, had a great flavor and was moist and juicy. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his rabbit jambalaya. Adam was awesome, and even told us a story about the creepy fireplace in the corner with a woman's picture above it (after I asked). We will definitely come back one in town again.
We shared the tasting plate and gator bites. All good but I think the gumbo is the stand out by far and the jambalaya was also very good.
I had dinner here a few days ago looking for some fried chicken and Coop's Place is known for theirs. It is a dive bar on Decatur Street that also serves food and was relatively near my hotel. I ordered the 3 pc. fried chicken dinner that comes with cole slaw and rabbit sausage jambalaya for $20. The food came out in about 5 minutes and the night I visited the place wasn't busy at all so I guess they already had my chicken made which isn't a good sign. However my fried chicken was actually very good tasting. They gave me a wing and two breasts so it was alot of chicken. The meat was juicy and flavorful and I enjoyed it (4). Coop's chicken reputation is justified. I liked the cole slaw as it was cool and creamy (3.5). The jambalaya was dry and I didn't finish it (2). I will give an overall score of a 4 but that jambalaya must be improved or perhaps you should ask for a different side dish. Another reason I give a 4 is due to the amount of food relative to its price.
With all the construction around this area of the French Quarter during Easter weekend it was kind of crazy to get to Coop's Place, but I'm glad we were able to try it. Classic dive vibes for sure, it was so dark inside but the food was solid. Etouffee was the best thing we had here and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Gumbo had a great kick and was slightly thicker than Dooky Chase's so I personally enjoyed it more - the inclusion of okra was great. Red beans & rice was solid. The rest of the Coop's plate was not our favorite since the jamabalaya was more tomato-based than we usually like, the shrimp creole was also super tomato-y, and the chicken was kind of dry, but a fun spot to grab a bite in the Quarter!
Coop's was a delicious stop on during our stay in NOLA. Is enjoyed the casual atmosphere and how friendly everyone was. We ordered the sampler plate which was a great way to try everything. It also came with a seafood gumbo which in my opinion was the best gumbo I had during my three day visit. We also ordered the crab stuffed jalapeño poppers which were divine! They're friendly, food is great, and they're open late. Stop by!
Visited in February. Recommended by a friend. We wanted to try the places off the beaten path. Where the Real food is. This is Top of the list. Complete hole in the wall and I Love it!! Tried the rabbit jambalaya, and husband had the fried catfish. YUM YUM YUM!!! The jambalaya has kick, and this girl is not a fan of spice, but I couldn't stop eating it! I was sweating and Loved it!!! Husband's catfish was Soooo good. Nothing like what we get it Iowa from our Mississippi River. If we ever make it back (and hope to) would do another visit to Coops for sure!!
If fried chicken calls your name, don't miss out on coops. I ordered the 2 piece Cajun fried chicken. It's not too spicy. And where else can you get rabbit and sausage jambalaya (if you are squeamish, it's hard to tell there's rabbit) and the coleslaw is great.
Jambalaya Supreme was amazing, definitely would get again, and again. The Mrs. had the Gumbo and she loved it. Great service, highly recommend!
My absolute favorite spot in the French Quarter. Literally the first place I go everyone I am in Nee Orleans. Very authentic in every way. You will know you are in New Orleans the second you step inside. The bartenders and servers are always friendly and I have never had anything to eat here that wasn't great. Their chicken tchoupitoulas is one of may absolute favorite meals (and not just in New Orleans). Coop's is a must for anyone who has an opportunity to get in the door here.
Bring ya cash! Rookie mistake when visiting here is forgetting some crisp bills in exchange for some homecooked style Cajun food. Do yourself a favor and if you're in town visiting and hopping around bourbon, get off that street and head in to Coop's place! Coop's has a divey feel and the staff is serious about their food. If they're a little sassy with you don't worry, that means they like you. I ordered the Etouffe which was a large portion of rice, shrimp and crawfish smothered in seafood stew. I've ordered the rabbit and sausage jambalaya before as well which was equally as tasty. This is a routine stop for me when I visit and I think it should be yours too!

Food was amazing!!! Absolutely nothing left on my plate. Cole could stand to be a tad bit sweeter but all paired very well together with the Rabbit/Sausage Jambalaya. ID'd at the door - no one under 21 allowed! (Parents, keep in mind!). Located between the French quarter and Frenchman street. Food: SO GOOD. Order something recommended!! (Or at least, don't order something explicitly un-recommended, lol! You'll see!) Service: Picture the banter and candidness of Dick's Last Resort, minus the mean spirit and add ALL the southern hospitality. Like your cool older cousin or uncle, who's into beer, good food, music, and video games. Ambiance: cool and divey, but not grimy. ~~~~~~ We were told to sit wherever we'd like, we decided on a two-top near the back. Bar staff and patrons shooting the shit, all good vibes, and it felt very lively already! We came at "weird time" 3pm - between lunch and dinner - maybe four or five other parties in there. Not crowded, but not dead. Our server came up, told us one rule: no phones, no devices - LOVEEEEE. Being forced to have a convo with my husband and the folks around us without pulling out or phones to "look something up" or unintentionally open instagram or something. He told us what he recommended, what we SHOULDN'T order, and the "safe bets" as well. We told him we came in on recommendation to get the redfish meunière- and he's like OH. OH MAN. thats actually one of my TOP THREE, who ever recommended that to you knows what's up. For drinks, we asked for NA (non-alcoholic) options. There was ZERO JUDGEMENT on his end, we got an NA beer and a Mineragua. This was a relief - it's hard enough to be sober in NOLA! We was super cool, chatted us up about tattoos and nerd culture (I have a ton of eeveelution/Pokémon tattoos as part of a sleeve). Was super friendly with us and other tables, asked us about how long we'd been together - just super cool and we felt taken care of. Surprise surprise, the redfish dish was PHENOMENAL. We went last weekend, im only now getting around to writing a review, and im still thinking about it. It also came with a side salad as a mini appetizer which was delightful, simple, and fresh (not bagged preshredded lettuce - actually, no lettuce at all! It was like greens and chard and tomatoes and just light and nice - came with a side of what I think was pesto ranch) This is a must stop for us in NOLA moving forward. I'm sorry but Coop's food is SEVERELY underrated. I've come to Nola 4x this year alone and have eaten my way through every neighborhood/district from dive bars to top establishments and when I say Coop's blew my mind, I mean it. BBQ Shrimp- prior to Coop's, my top place to crush bbq shrimp was Palm & Pine. Now it's certainly Coop's! Came out piping hot, the shrimp were perfectly cooked, tons of zippy spicy sauce and a gigantic portion for the price. Flavor, prep and presentation a 10/10. Fried Chicken- I was eating the bones.... Chicken was flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. Juicy and so crunchy on the outside. Seasoning on point. Rabbit & Andoullie Jambalaya- got this as a side with the fried chicken and man they do this the right way. Not dried out at all, insanely seasoned, moist and the rabbit gives it such a nice complex flavor. Crabmeat Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers- when I found Coop's on Yelp, I had already walked by it 100x going to spots like Molly's and Cane & Table, but the poppers on the menu caught my eye. I'll never want my Jalapeno poppers any other way than with their crab stuffing now. Spicy and mellowed out with the horseradish dipping sauce. Ugh I can't say how great these are with any other words.... Smoked Duck Quesidilla- delish but I couldn't concentrate on it too much bc I was busy raving about the chicken and shrimp. Served with too much sour cream but they smoke the ducks in the back so I love the down home approach in making a quesadilla a little more special tasting. Maybe skip next time and get double the shrimp, chicken, poppers and jambalaya but still very tasty! Coleslaw- freakin perfect. Just perfect mix of the mayo and citrus, tastes very fresh and great to get with other spicy items on the menu. Bartenders were delightful, big personalities and chatted us up. Got an Abita beer and the Bourbon Mint Tea cocktail- both lovely drinks. read more

First time trying étouffée and this place did not disappoint! It was so flavorful and packed with shrimps and crawfish. It had a pleasant kick to it and was perfectly cooked. We also ordered the shrimp creole, which was different, but delicious nonetheless. This dish was also packed with tons of shrimp. We liked that it had a sundried tomato taste to it, which was refreshing while eating it alongside the étouffée. The service was friendly and it's located in a small but very nicely decorated bar. read more

A big thank you goes out to all my aviation friends on this recommendation. It was recommended last year as one of the must go tos but with the epic snow storm last year sadly they were closed. This restaurant appeared on a recent must visit list for flight crews so we knew we had to check it out. I will warn you this is not a fancy place by any means and is a dive but it has the best Southern Fried Chicken and Jambayla. If you want a truly authentic creole meal this is the place to go. In my experience, some if the most amazing food can be found at dives. The service here was amazing and the staff were warm and friendly. No tablecloths or linens just some amazing southern cooking with a side of that good ole southern hospitality. Prices were reasonable as well. Make sure you bring your license as it is a must have to get in with the establishment having a bar. But made me feel so good to be carded that was an extra plus for me... LOL !!!! read more

I don't eat a lot of red beans and rice and my only RB&Rice I know are the ones from Popeyes that's why I'm dying to try this place plus their fried chicken. The cajun fried chicken with RB&Rice were ok in my opinion. I may not comeback for food here but will actually comeback for the vibes. It's my type of bar. This place is small but busy because it is literally a bar. Explains why 21 and under are not allowed. It only has a couple of tables. Supposedly known for Jambalaya. Cajun fried chicken- delicious. Highly recommended Cajun pasta - not bad Jalapeño poppers - not bad Gumbo - not bad Chicken Tchoupitoulas - everything was good except the chicken. Chicken was overcooked and dried, totally ruined the whole dish. Jambalaya- rice was mushy, more like a porridge. This is supposed to be their know dish but it was disappointed. Desserts: This is a bar so no, desserts are not available here. Sadly, Cleanliness is in question as all foods coming out of the kitchen passed through a hallway that has garbage cans lined up on one side and washrooms on the others. read more

A small, divey restaurant close to the French Market with a lot of Creole food options at affordable prices. I had the rabbit and sausage jambalaya. It was my first time having rabbit, and it was pretty lean but tasty. My husband had the shrimp creole and it wasn't as flavorful as the jambalaya, but I think he still enjoyed it. A small cup of the jambalaya was still a pretty big portion and I got full from it. I probably wouldn't go back next time I'm in New Orleans since I've had better meals, but for the convenient location and classic Creole options, it's still a solid choice. read more
Definitely one to visit. Cajun fried chicken with side of rabbit and sausage jambalaya, and coleslaw. The chicken is crispy outside, juicy inside but I expected it more spicier. The sides though, especially the jambalaya was really good. Friendly bartender and dive bar ambiance is really a French quarter experience. read more

My husband and I always come to Coop's Place when we are in New Orleans. He brags that Coop's friend shrimp is the absolute best shrimp he has ever had in the entire world! I must agree. It is obviously fresh, breaded just right, and juicy and sweet when you bite into it! They do it right by removing the tails so that you can just pop them in your mouth. Coop's cocktail sauce has a respectable bite and the tartar is also exquisite with a fresh creamy taste. Coop's is always busy and the service is really fast and good. They have a good selection of beer and wine, and I recommend tasting one of their specialty cocktails as well. The ambiance is fun New Orleans, loud and casual. Their location is so convenient just across from the Market and almost on the corner of Ursulines Ave on Decatur St. Eat where the locals love - Coop's! See you there! read more
Coops is one of my very few go-to spots in the French Quarter. They serve the best fried chicken in the quarter and it is typically accompanied by rabbit jambalaya which is very good. It comes with coleslaw too but I'm not a coleslaw person. When I told them this they said that's because you never had good coleslaw. Maybe so! Still didn't eat it. This is actually the only "creole" jambalaya that I like (made with tomatoes). If you suffer from heartburn try a different side. Inside Coops is very small but there's probably 12-15 seats at the bar and tables to sit at and it can get busy during peak days. Pass on the gumbo they don't know what they're doing with gumbo no offense. They serve a variety of Abita beers which is cool too. Love Coop's, give them a try. read more

OMG! We come to New Orleans every year for my birthday! We have been to Coop's before and It's a cool bar & restaurant!! Our bartender was awesome, and she made me the best bloody Mary & took great care of us!! Our food was so good. The fried chicken is delicious and homemade green beans!! Plus jambalaya and coleslaw slaw were good too!! We love it here & made new friends!! Gotta love New Orleans! We will be back! read more

An experience. Total Dive bar. It wasn't what I expected. They card you before you can get seated. Thus there are no kids in the place. The waiter was on one. He was upfront and said he didn't feel well and had a splitting headache. He was rough around the edges and to the point. Going over the specials and the menu. Saying what was good on the menu and what wasn't worth your time. Service was quick and he came to check on us multiple times. Definitely a dive bar feel. Cell phones are not allowed at the table. The tables were large tables that you share with multiple parties. All the seats were taken while we were there. I'm glad we got there early to claim seats. I ordered the redfish Menuerie, see picture for description and correct spelling. It was delicious. Not fishy at all. I love the sauce and paired with rice allowed me to get all the sauce. I'd order it again. My husband got the special. The bathroom was clean minus the graffiti. They take cards. read more

This place is a hole in the wall. The people there love being there and it shows. The entire staff was great!! They only have bottle and can beer and drinks are served I. Little plastic cups. We had three different dishes, tasting place, seafood pasta and chicken tapachulas (I butchered that word). I would eat all three again. I just wished the sauce on my pasta was thicker. It got everywhere. The flavor was on point. Same with the chicken. My friend devoured the taste plate read more

Are the kitty cats still here? I fed one of them half my chicken last time and I want a reunion ?
Kitty cats ? Lol I don't think so. We ate here twice during our visit to New Orleans. I didn't see any cats the entire time.
