Expect to wait in line when you arrive. We had about a 15 minute wait. Your assigned a table number and directed where to sit after you place your order. We sat upstairs where the tables were numbered and you sit and wait for your order. The chicken was crispy and juicy but a little salty so I couldn't enjoy the crispy skin. This small disappointment cost them a star.
Finally made it to the 6th Ward home of Lil Dizzy's Café. Unfortunately, it wasn't wheelchair accessible, but the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They immediately offered me the choice of outdoor seating or takeout, determined to make my visit work. When I first rolled up, there wasn't a line in sight. Three minutes later, the place was buzzing, with customers filling the restaurant and cars pulling into the parking lot. That's always a good sign. The two greeters were warm, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. I opted for takeout and ordered the soft-shell crab with potato salad and collard greens. About 15 minutes later, my meal was carefully packed and ready to go. Back at the hotel, it was time to dig in. The potato salad absolutely stole the show. Creamy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, it was easily the standout of an already delicious meal. The soft-shell crab and collard greens were hot, well seasoned, and equally satisfying. I'm usually not a fan of takeout packaging, but Lil Dizzy's got it right. Everything was packed securely with no leaks, and the food stayed warm all the way back to the hotel. Although I couldn't dine inside, my trip from the French Quarter to the 6th Ward was well worth it. This place has been on my list and I was finally able to try it . The line to get into the restaurant moved really fast. We got there about thirty minutes after opening time. The wait wasn't bad at all. Some of the things that we had at the table were: Gumbo,Collard greens, Catfish,Red beans/rice with fried chicken, and Fried chicken with French fries All were delicious ! The food came out quickly! Service was great! I love that they have a dine in line or a to go line in case you just want to take the food home!
Line moved quick and all the workers were super friendly. You order your food first then are seated. So recommend looking up menu beforehand. They serve you in to go boxes and utensils which hilariously makes sense. Ordered 4pc fried chicken, dirty rice, greens & Mac & cheese. The chicken is exactly what ppl say... Delicious!! The dirty rice was a close 2nd Greens & Mac were OK service was quick and our waitress was responsive
We were told this was a must stop on our trip to New Orleans. There's bound to be a wait outside which is okay, we waited about 30 minutes starting at 11:10 on a Monday. There's was a woman guiding the line with a clipboard, she was very intense about the line and the seating process. There was a lot of yelling and reiterating the points about ordering over and over. It was a little hard to feel relaxed when there were so many rules and reminders. They kept reiterating that there were no refunds or exchanges which read as a little tacky to me personally As for the food, it wasn't really to my taste either. I guess I expected a little more considering the wait and the fame. You will wait, and you will love it! Rolled up around 11, and there was a line of course. It moves fast-ish, but for this food, I'll wait an hour or more--the owner is out there directing traffic, welcoming you and making sure everyone is happy, safe and prepared to get your order in. And BE prepared, they are no frills and all family/business here. This was the best meal we had in NOLA, and we went to all the places (galatoires, commanders, dragos, gumbo shop, the market, all of them). I love how when she walks in with each party, she says "welcome to lil dizzy's." and everyone shouts it out. This lady knows what she's doing. It's an event when you finally make it into the coveted dinning room! Po boys, white beans, fried chicken and the gumbo IS the best. Buy the cook book, it's fantastic. This is the spot for real food! Very long wait. From waiting outside to waiting for the food. Took about 40 minutes from when we paid for our food order to actually getting the food. They also served the food in waves. Seemed like they served all the food for the outside orders, then the upstairs orders and then downstairs. We had very high expectations. The gumbo was good, but not the best. It wasn't hot (temperature wise). The gumbo was, warm. The fried chicken came out hot and fresh but not that flavorful. The cornbread was also pretty dry. The Thursday okra special was okay. The mango lemonade was spot on. I'd love to try it again and maybe it on a different day when they have other specials
Rating: 8/10 This is a pinnacle in NOLA restaurants and highly recommended. From fried fish to okra, the menu hosts some of the staple dishes of the city's finest cuisine. Wish it came with more shrimp for the price. Do: Order Jake's crab cakes with crawfish sauce. The crawfish sauce is thick like a gravy with some tail meat. When eaten with the crab cakes it is actually perfection. Literally I cannot stop thinking about this sauce and their crab cakes. When eaten with the grits too its just so amazing! Some don'ts: Potato salad is just okay. So is the mango lemonade. Not a big fan of their mac n cheese. Greens were also standard. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating inside is limited. We came late because we had a work event earlier in the day. I have been wanting to try Lil Dizzys for a long time. But I knew coming late could mean I couldn't get everything I wanted. In the line outside we were told they're out of Mac and cheese. All of a sudden they magically had some when we were ordering. My fried chicken was made to order, hot and crispy. The Mac and cheese wasn't dried out and was flavorful and perfect! The yams were good but tooo sweet for me to eat them all, more like a dessert. My husband had the dirty rice which was good too. I will definitely come back when I'm in Nola again.

We waited in line for a while on MLK day to try this place out. Service was great, menus were handed out and there was someone to answer any question we had while waiting. I'm not sure if it's because they were so busy that day that it compromised on the food quality. The fried chicken, though really crispy and juicy, was extremely salty. It was a shame because the cook on the chicken itself was perfection. The amount of salt on there was just unbearable. The Mac and cheese and potato salad was just mid. It's just there to be there as a side. The crab cake was not bad, had good flavors, but again a bit too salty as well. The gumbo was not the best we had in NOLA on this trip but it was the best thing we had at Li'l Dizzy's. As disappointed as I was, I hope that it was just an off day for this place.

Man, man, man. Got to visit Li'l Dizzy's and it did not disappoint. We went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and as expected there was a line. They have a good system to move parties through and the line went by quickly. I went with the 2 piece white and mac and cheese box. The chicken was 10/10- no notes. I let my mom try a piece and she wanted to go down and order some for herself. The mac and cheese was good overall but some parts were a little too cheesy with a lack of noodles. My mom went with the smothered pork chops, mac and cheese and greens. She really enjoyed the pork chops, had the same sentiments about the mac and cheese, but wasn't a fan of the greens. She stated that they tasted like they were from a can. My brother got the catfish, mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. The catfish was flavorful and crunchy. The sweet potatoes were good but definitely on the sweeter side. To drink I got lemonade and it was eh and definitely could've went without it. Another thing I will note is that the meats came out s m o k i n g. My brother's catfish came out a little after my mom and I's meals and my chicken was still hot when i ripped into it. read more

The Mac n cheese and gumbo is the best you can ever get in the city. The service is great, everyone is so welcoming and helpful. Li'l Dizzy's did not disappoint. The line was long, but it moved very fast. The owner runs a tight ship, but she was so friendly and a pleasure to speak with. We really enjoyed her spirit and hearing about their family business. She took pride in the food and catering to her customers. The food was so good. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and fried in the cleanest grease. I had the best dirty rice here that I've ever tasted in my life. I can go on and on about the food here. Oh man. I mean honestly, in a city where it's tough to stand out for your fried chicken and other Cajun flare this place shows up. We weren't able to get a seat at a more well known spot and couldn't have been a better turn of luck because Li'l Dizzy's knocked it out of the park. As someone who has tried almost all the fried chicken in New Orleans, most of the red beans and rice and a good amount of the fried catfish. I can tell you with experience that this place deserves one of the top three spots in New Orleans Orleans. I can't recommend it highly enough. And when it comes to my Cajun food, I don't play around. The food was so incredible we didn't even stop to take pictures, every bite was that good! You'll want to come hungry and with a little patience, because the wait is totally worth it. Heads-up: they sometimes run out of certain dishes, so try to get there early to snag everything you're craving (we learned this the hard way & they skipped my friend and she almost didn't get any food). Lil Dizzys is a very popular spot with a good system for seating guests and friendly staff. Note: the first floor has more visual character than the second. As for the food, I had the catfish with shrimp and sauce on top (the name escapes me now) and although the catfish was a bit salty, I enjoyed. It had a great crunch to it - basically a texture-filled dream to my palate. The dirty rice with ground beef was okay and the potato salad had a strong vinegar taste (unsure if it was the relish or the mustard- or if their recipe actually calls for vinegar). The bread pudding was kind of 'soupy' (too wet) and aside from sugar, I didn't taste any cinnamon, butter or other notable flavors. Did not eat it. I still encourage everyone to try it - there are so many rave reviews on here! But I expected more in terms of flavor. For context, I'm used to southern style cooking from South Carolina and Alabama. read more

Restaurant was busy for Mardi Gras weekend, cozy indoor and outdoor space, loved our order taker, she was super cool and helped us order. We ordered small portions of chicken, Mac&Cheese, gumbo, dirty rice, yams, fish, and bread pudding to try on a road trip. Food came out piping hot. Yams, and chicken were really good. This a throwback! A real treasure. From the joyous greeting to the legit grandma made fixins. It feels like home here. The kindest greeter ever shares the specials when you walk in and also plays air traffic control for the staff. We ordered at the counter and sat, then food came promptly. The options make it really hard to choose. The bevvy! Do not pass on the in house strawberry and mango lemonade! I went for candied yams and old fashioned southern mac n cheese. Legit like I was back at my grandma's kitchen table! My companion got the day's special plate including fried chicken with jambalaya. He was mooning over the food. I tasted it too. Flavor packed. I was recommended Li'l Dizzy by our tour guide but also by a couple of reviews on Reddit. It is located in the Treme part of New Orleans. To be honest, the area was a bit sketchy but we didn't have trouble walking about. When you walk in, you are greeted with a "Welcome to Li'l Dizzy". They serve a lot of soul food dishes here. There is no bathroom but they do have hand sanitizer. A lady walked us through the menu. You have to order up front and they assign you a seat to sit at. We ended up getting white chicken with gumbo. The gumbo was meh at best. The white chicken was worth getting. I wouldn't say it was the best chicken but it was freshly made and was pretty tasty. We ended it with a bread pudding which was kind of basic. The place seems popular amongst locals and tourists. read more
Decided to go here because a friend was visiting from out of town and wanted some New Orleans food. The line was long but it moved pretty fast . The owner definitely has a system and you better not change it. Lol. She was stern yet helpful. But it kept the line moving. I had not been here in years and was very surprised at the food being in to go boxes. I couldn't believe the food was not being served on plates. When you walk in, you go up to the counter, place your order, pay and then you find your table. Later the waiter brings your food with plastic utensils and to go boxes. But I guess that's what keeps the line moving fast. And decent prices. The food was good. I had the blackened fish with a shrimp sauce on the side . And my friend had the fried catfish. Great experience here! We did the to go option. To drink lemonade mango and Mardi Gras options. Ordered fried chicken and a side of candied yams with separate side of mac and cheese and gumbo. All good! No complaints. The food in New Orleans has not disappointed once! Staff was kind and communicative as well. Once again Lil Dizzy's did not disappoint. Fried chicken was seasoned and fried on point. Mac and cheese was delectably cheesy. We tried the smothered pork chop special and I ain't mad at it! I've never had smothered pork chops before so I don't have a reference but what I can say is the pork chops wasn't dry and the gravy was da bomb! We also ordered gumbo and the only critic I have is that last time we got my shrimp and crab and this time some of the bowls didn't have any shrimp or crab. Now with that said it was still amazing! That broth is like a grandma's hug in a bowl every time. That's why we bought 5 orders of gumbo to go too! Until the next time, cuz we WILL be back. read more
Every local recommended this spot and it was A M A Z I N G! Food that you couldn't ever find in California, that's for sure. We had the smothered okra special, 2 piece chicken with a side of Southern greens, and an order of gumbo. Everything we ordered was a hit. The chicken was crispy, and the seasoning on it was really different from other fried chicken I've had. It was GOOD. The smothered okra was incredible and I had previously thought that I wasn't all that into okra, but this dish wasn't slimy at all and it was chock full of meat. Huge portion for a very reasonable price. The gumbo here is on the thinner/runnier side but it was delicious. The food here does run a little salty, but it didn't bother me at all. Just so so good. It's a busy spot, but they keep it running like a well oiled machine. You have really got to stop here. On the top of my list of places I must revisit when I return to NOLA. read more

We opted to order from the to go order shack outside and sit at a picnic table (complete with umbrella) to eat our meals. The wait to order was reasonable, considering a lot of people had questions at this new "buzz" place, including myself. Food came out within 5-10 min, and we were provided our drinks while we waited. There is an indoor restaurant with an outdoor seating area, but it was full on this Sunday 12:15 visit. Cousin ordered the Grilled Trout with lemon shrimp sauce, collards and green beans with a lemonade. She pronounced the lemonade refreshing, the trout the best she has ever had - and she lives in NY, so that's saying something - and she moaned over the collards. The green beans were the only thing she wasn't plussed with, but they're green beans, right? I tried the trout as well, and darn if it wasn't the best non-fishy trout I've ever had. ;) My Catfish Jourdain ($21.50), fried with a creamy lemon shrimp and crab sauce was outstanding! I also had the collards and groaned. The potato salad is homemade and mustardy like I like it, but missed my tastebuds by a hair. No worries - next time I'm going for the dirty rice or the yams. Bottled soda ($2.50) was my drink of choice, and we took home a bread pudding ($4.25) which we ate cold later and were not disappointed. Ordered husband a fried chicken breast ($3) and a catfish plate with mac & cheese and green beans ($16.50). He scoffed it down like no one's business, said it was really good and wanted to know how close is the restaurant? (We live across the river from it.) All the food seemed reasonably priced, and the service was very friendly. Take the drive, park on the street (there is no parking lot) and enjoy your meal. read more

I am a native. It is safe as safe can be in urban community. Be aware of your surroundings. Lock your car doors. Don't flash lots of cash or jewelry. If you want to walk from quarters to the restaurant, daytime is ok. Still be aware of surroundings…
