I guess they were very short staffed. Luckily, very nearby is Lake Austin Coffee Spot open til 9 pm, where I enjoyed quick & friendly service (no line), topnotch Americano & $1.48 chocolate chunk muffin,with lots of outdoor seating. My favorite coffee shop in Austin, hands down! I visited the restaurant once and this place caught my eye and it was highly recommend by my friends. Mozart's Coffee Shop in Austin is an absolute delight, especially during the holiday season. The Christmas lights display is simply magical, creating a festive and cozy atmosphere that makes it feel like a winter wonderland. The café's lakeside location adds a photographic backdrop making it perfect for capturing beautiful photos. I did not get the tickets in advance so I did not get into the holiday market. So I ended up only going to the coffee shop. We ordered the Holiday hot chocolate with marshmallows, the Tiramisu Mousse Dessert, Samosas, Croissants. The lattes were light and flavorful but was hard to get the marshmallows through that container. The tiramisu was good too , rich, creamy. Samosas did not come out so had to return and get them again but ended up being worth it. Wish the service was faster but can't complain since it is always crowded, speaks for the quality. This is another of Austin's most festive spots. I give 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 now, just because of how INSANELY packed and crowded this place has gotten... It used to be my and my friend's go-to holiday hang out spot like 5-10 years ago when we were all in town from undergrad, but over the years it's become so crowded that they now do advance reservations, and they fill to capacity/end up turning people away because the area outside/in the parking lot just gets filled with people standing around since there aren't enough tables. The inside area is very cute though, including with a little lower deck adjacent to the water of the lake, so you can have a coffee/drink, see the lake at night, and watch the little light show (which was actually a UT Austin Engineering graduate student's thesis project -- and it was so well-loved and festive that it has been kept up ever since!). I don't go to Mozart's much any more because of the crowding issue; the coffee is good and the light show is cute but it's similar enough each year despite some small tweaks that I don't feel the cost of dealing with crowds is worth the benefit. Nevertheless, I love that it's still around and strongly rec giving it a visit if you've never been - it's very "Austin," and very festive! read more

Local Austinite here... Mozart's is an Austin institution. I don't go all the time so I was surprised on my last trip to see a long line across the deck and up the stairs to get coffee. It felt more like Disneyland than Mozart's. I'm glad business is doing well but I'm going to mourn the chill atmosphere of being in the moment, enjoying the beauty of the area instead of what now feels like something to check off a tourists To-Do list. The days of the quiet relaxed vibe of being on Lake Austin seem to be gone. There was a band playing on the patio, which was nice but if you're sitting on the upper deck it would be hard to have a conversation. As mentioned, there was a long line to order food and drinks inside. There was a secondary line for the coffee cart... Yes, progress happens but when you want to relax by the lake with a coffee and read a book or have a conversation I guess Mozart's isn't the place to do it on the weekend. You will find yourself hunting for a table, if you have multiple people in your party, do yourself a favor and split up - one get the drinks and food while the other scopes for a table like it's Black Friday. Okay, the thing you really came to find out. Is the coffee and food good? Yes, yes it is. I had a chai latte which they don't pre-sweeten. YAY!! My friends had coffee and their snobs. Like travel with their own coffee bean snobs, they approved of the lattes. The desserts were pretty good. We had the tuxedo cake, a cookie and brownie. The tuxedo cake was pretty good. Went to Mozarts for their Christmas lights as I do every year and I think they've been changing the way they do the ticketing system. In the past, it used to just be open and free for all which I understand as they've been growing and getting been getting more people moving here they needed to change. However, I think not having assigned tables was a challenge at the beginning because everyone came right at 7:30 so it was really hard to find parking and then there were no guarantee tables available so we had to stand for a while until we were able to find one. My peppermint hot chocolate wasn't very pepperminty at all! However, the vibes made up for it as the lights were even more amazing than I remember them from previous years. Met with a friend here because of the view. There's a few levels of outdoor seating and she was at the bottom. I had just checked out of my hotel after being in town for ACL weekend 2, so I had my suitcase and backpack, and asked the barista if I could leave my suitcase somewhere while I met with my friend at the bottom level (they only have stairs and my suitcase was full), I was given a reply of sure but we can't do anything if it gets stolen. The newly renovated space, known as The Loft, is cozy and you can choose from overlooking the Colorado River (Lady Bird Lake) or move upstairs to a space that is more secluded and away from windows. Love Mozarts! What happened to the Christmas light festival 2025? The best part about spending $265 was the hot chocolate. I remember coming to the light festival years ago and it was absolutely amazing. Now we have a flat screen with a projector, horrible music, and an amateur rendition of the Nutcracker. Unbelievable! We came here due to a upcoming ENT doctor visit that Shana had and she wanted a relaxing pre visit day with good coffee. She has come here once before and always meant to come back. I want to be upfront again, coffee shops like this will never be by thing, they make me feel out of place and the places always feel "pretentious" but that is all my hang up. The place is nice I admit. Shana got her coffee, kept it simple as well as a breakfast taco and we got a brownie. One huge plus for me that made it a bit better was the option for some other drinks, soda, bottled water, Not many coffee places give you options beyond coffee and tea, so when your the one non coffee drinker in your friends group it is not welcoming. Glad they had Dr. Pepper in a bottle. The breakfast taco was good per Shana thought the tortillas was that rubber like way a bad tortilla gets which in Austin seems like a major oversight, you can get pretty good tortillas at HEB. The coffee was excellent, again per Shana and the brownie was big and tasty, lots of chocolate. The patio area we sat in on a mid day weekend was cute and had lots of room. It allows dogs and has wifi. It looks over the lake and was super cute. They have a ton of merch from coffee mugs to t-shirts and cookies. So if you like to have merch from where you go they have you covered. They had one really cool Batman themed shirt but it was too big for Shana. A few things to note: The bathrooms even when we went mid day were gross. It was still crowded with a line out the door when we arrived though we came after the morning rush and before the evening crowd. It was not the most crowded place but we were surprised to see that big a crowd mid day. They have a Starbucks like assembly line which means slightly faster but not very welcoming and they just call out the food you got, no name or anything so hopefully no one ordered the same thing as you. The area you wait in is not very big either so if it got any more crowded it would be a nightmare. They workers were the kind that were not rude or unhelpful but not friendly or outgoing. It's all about the ambiance at Mozart's. This is one of, if not the best outdoor patio space in Austin! Shaded by a big oak tree - like so many great patios are - Mozart's patio is full of picnic tables, boasts a beautiful lake view, and has a handful of strategically places outlets in case your electronics need a boost. I usually get a cold brew or an iced Americano here on warm days, and they get the job done. They don't make the best coffee in Austin, but it's far from the worst, so if you need a quick pick me up, go for it! If you're hungry, Mozart's has a fully stocked pastry fridge (they make 'em in house) and a few savory items as well. I can't vouch for the taste, but they certainly are eye candy. The other great thing about Mozart's is that they're big on live, intimate events! I've seen a movie there on a warm night and they regularly invite a musician or band to fill the air waves with something pleasant (or energetic). I kept thinking? It will be worth it, it will be worth it. Walking up the girls squealed with excitement, we took some cute pictures, danced on Tay's dance floor all in anticipation for the big show. Finding a 6 top table was the impossible part about getting the reservation. We walk up yo L48 and it's this tiny picnic table, impossible to fit 6 people. I had to pull up my ticket to make sure I had the right number, sure enough that was it. Then we were seated basically in the line for the concessions so I had stranger asses inches from the side of my face the entire time. When reserving you can also add a hot cocoa package, I thought I got it but when we sat down there was nothing at the table like I was told there would be. I checked my tickets and saw no mention of the package so figured I decided against it, So I got in the concessions line and ordered 4 hot chocolates with two pretzels, it was $75 and of course they wanted a tip. So $85 for a snack, ...wonderful. After I paid and sat back down a large box with cookies and pretzels shows, again wonderful apparently I DID pre-order. This was a 7pm show, at 7:19 a server shows up with hot chocolate and cups that were part of the preordered package. We sent it away while asking why it was so late to be told they had to wash the carafe between shows. We were seated in the lower level and couldn't see anything, honestly the entire time we were tying ti figure out what we were supposed to be seeing. So Austin, for 21 years I've been told I HAVE to go to Motzarts, now I've been and I can guarantee I will never go again nor recommend ti anyone. Really great coffee roasters sitting next to a lake. We arrived on a busy Sunday morning and there was a huge line out the door. Thankfully the weather was delightful so we were happy to wait while enjoying the live jazz band they had playing in the outdoor seating area. They have two counters inside for ordering which helped with the line tremendously. I ordered an americano and a raspberry danish (the pastry cases were so tempting!!), my friends ordered lattes and other pastries. We weren't waiting too long before we headed outside and managed to find a table right next to the water. There were tons of turtles swimming around which was very cool! The food and drinks were great, and the scenery and vibe is really cool. Nice place to hang out of a weekend morning, but be prepared for a wait!
