I used Movers 201 in August 2019 to move from New York to the West Coast. I'm going to use them again this summer to move back from the West Coast to the East Coast, which is what brought them to mind to finally leave my review. Amir was great to work with, and I always received no-nonsense, straightforward responses to all my questions and concerns. Although I never met him in person, he was responsive and involved throughout the move whether I interacted with him by phone, text, or through the website interface. The feature that really sold me on working with Movers 201 is the moving cost calculator that's part of their website. It's the first time I worked with a moving company that had this feature and it was really helpful. Amir can add things for you to the calculator while you're on the phone, or you can add them yourself. And then you can adjust the inventory of your stuff yourself or via a phone call (or text message) with Amir. The advantage for me is that I could see exactly how much, say, my couch would cost to move and I could make decisions about whether to keep or sell things based on the moving cost. I can't believe I hadn't used this before with other companies for previous moves -- I could have saved many hundreds of dollars by not moving certain things (like the couch!). And, most importantly, the online calculator shows you the exact cost that you will pay, so we didn't have any surprises. On moving day in New York, the team that showed up was the most organized moving team I've worked with before. They tagged everything, listed every single item on a paper inventory, and were one of the fastest crews I've worked with for any move out. For some people, to be honest, Movers 201's exacting attention to detail could perhaps be a slight downside, because if you've got extra items that you didn't account for when using the moving cost calculator, then they will need to add those and your price will be adjusted accordingly. But for me this was a plus because I'm an organized person, I like to have everything accounted for in the moving company's inventory, and I appreciated their attention to detail, especially for a cross-country move. There was one source of stress for me -- which wasn't Movers 201 fault -- which I need to mention for transparency. We didn't have a place rented yet on the West Coast, so our stuff went into Movers 201 storage. Once we rented a place, our stuff was eventually delivered by an 18-wheeler tractor trailer to our destination. (Movers 201 is based in New Jersey, so I believe that they work with other companies or contractors to do these cross-country deliveries, and in our case there was a wait of a week or two -- I forget -- while our stuff made its way west.) There is very limited street parking in our West Coast destination city, and it tends to fill up by late morning or early afternoon and the city wouldn't give me a permit to block off spots for the tractor trailer. Unfortunately, the guys who would be delivering weren't committing to coming by in the morning, which meant they might not be able to park, which would increase the cost a couple of hundred dollars if they had to rent a truck to ferry the items over. This got a bit stressful for me at the time, but Amir intervened and asked them to do whatever they could to arrive here in the morning, and they did, and it all ended up working out fine in the end. But just be prepared for this possibility if you have a similar situation to mine which, admittedly, is probably uncommon. In the end, I definitely recommend Movers 201 and I'm going to use them again in a couple of months for another cross-country move, this time heading back east. (Now, I've just got to stop doing these cross-country moves!) read more

Tried to get an accurate quote from these guys, but their online calculator didn't have an option for an in-building move (from one apartment to the next). The only quotes were for 2+ movers and a truck. I don't need a truck. So I called, and the person I spoke with basically said that because he needs to send a crew in a truck with the moving equipment (?dolly's? hand trucks?), I gotta pay for the truck as well. So if you need a within-building move, expect to over pay with these guys. read more

Do not use 201 Movers for long distance moves. I have moved twice previously from coat to coast, with relatively little damage to my belongings. This move was only from NJ to Chicago, but several pieces of my furniture were damaged beyond repair and the many of the rest scratched. I packed the boxes myself, they arrived in good condition. Unfortunately, I trusted 201 Movers to wrap and disassemble/assemble the furniture, which turned out to be a task complete beyond their abilities. Three examples: Dining Room Table - legs taken off very roughly, stripping the wood in several places (not really designed for this, legs were not removed on previous moves and the table suffered no damage). The crew doing the delivery (subcontractors) were unable to properly assemble table, the legs were so wobble that it no longer supported any weight. Sofa: again, legs removed although they weren't designed to be (and were not removed on previous moves), pieces of legs missing, the delivery crew was unable to attached them properly, very wobbly as a result. Two identical dressers: one wrapped properly, arrived in OK shape. One left totally unwrapped at the bottom, arrived - surprise surprise - with pieces chipped of at the bottom. No longer stands up properly. After paying approx. $8500 for moving the contents of a 1 Br apartment from NJ to Chicago, I was really expecting something better. A lot better. I did not buy extra insurance, so the compensation for all of the above (plus other damage) came to $399, less than I paid them to transport/destroy these pieces of furniture. Do yourself a favor and select some other company. It is possible that I got very unlucky with the crew, it is conceivable that they can manage short distance moves OK, but I would avoid the whole company, there are plenty of alternatives. Or purchase full insurance and factor the cost into their bid. read more

Shady company never showed up on my move day. Spoke with a english speaking hispanic guy few times to confirm. When they didn't show up they just stopped answering my calls so move day had to be rescheduled. Unreliable and stressful to use. Why not just be honest and say you can't make it so I can schedule with someone else. Extremely unprofessional and unreliable. And yes it was 100% movers201 so just own up to it. Nobody forgets the name of the business that screws you, and your phone number is the same. And why would I call you guys now, I already moved. If I did make a deposit, even though theres not a chance I would have, trust me I would have already gotten it back. read more

I used movers201 for a long distance move. Amir assessed my apartment gave me a quote and I scheduled a date for my move. I picked up my boxes from their office, packed and the assigned 2 movers came packed my belongings one day and the next day they were off to my new location, which was about 5.2hrs away. Overall I had a great experience, communication was always open...i.e I was able to text Amir (the owner) with questions or updates. The movers were VERY EFFICIENT and knew what they were doing. We just moved from a 5 floor split level home in Edgewater to another 4 level home on a hot and muggy day weekend with spurts of rain. Red and his crew told us up front it would be a 2 day move. They were in good spirits the whole time and worked miracles getting furniture down and up the stairs. I was sure to keep cold waters on hand for the crew of four. I debated rather or not to give five stars because in the end, one of the guys reconstructed our storage shed and bed incorrectly, BUT when I called the owner, he promptly sent another guy out to fix them so they get 5 stars and a great recommendation. In my most resent move from Fort Lee, the crew i had was Chino, Carlos and Marvin and they did a great job. They were professional, courteous and the move was seamless and on time. Hired Movers 201 for my move today. Having contacted multiple movers, none of them had a personal touch that Amir had to his customers. I must have called the office multiple times but it was just him who answered the call and queries. Amir's passion for his family run business reflects on his men who moves houses/Apts for his customers. Move Day! Red, the pro and Josh, his protégé arrive on time and immediately got to work. Wrapped my semi leather couch so well (almost 4 layers of padding) that a last minute 'stairway to heaven' situation was handled so well that it was moved without a scratch or tear! Same was the case with my led smart tv and all glass top tables. 5/5 for their preparedness - came in with all tools and accessories and yes the wardrobe boxes (amazing!). I was really very happy with my recent move with Movers 201. Scheduling the estimate was a bit difficult, but Amir (owner) couldn't have been nicer when he showed up. Their estimate was about 30% lower than other companies. I was being charged for 1/2 hour travel and $129 per hour, which included everything - 3 guys, a truck, wrapping, padding, use of wardrobe boxes the day of the move, etc. The other companies I consulted with charged at least 1 hour travel and $150 per hour, and none of them offered the use of free wardrobe boxes. My ultimate charge was about 1 hour more than the estimate, but I wasn't quite as prepared as I should have been, and the new place has lots of stairs. The day of the move, the guys were about 40 minutes early. They were professional and efficient, and so sweet and likeable! They wrapped everything so carefully. I was comfortable with all 3 guys and trusted that my belongings were in good hands. My parents have already said that they'll be hiring them when they sell their house. I felt good about hiring a local business that's family run as well. I highly recommend them! read more

To start off... I would consider myself fairly critical when it comes to reviews, so please consider this 4 star rating as the real deal! We booked with Movers 201 because we were desperate and had no other options (Not because we didn't plan ahead, but because the closing on our house was postponed!). Although we were a bit alarmed with their lousy reviews, they seemed comprehensive on the phone. We booked through Jess who explained the process and immediately emailed me a quote for the services. Overall, they are reasonable, with an hourly rate of $139. Jess also explained they come prepared with extra boxes, tape, wardrobes, and packing blankets. The morning of the move, they showed up nearly 30 minutes late. That was the only negative of the experience. They quickly adjusted the start date on the paperwork to correspond with the true start time. There were three men who really hustled. They were very careful with all boxes and furniture. In fact, I had to tell them to be LESS careful on a few garage sale pieces, since I didn't want to waste time on carefully wrapping it in protective blankets! Each item was very protected and flawlessly moved. The travel time to the new house was fair and it was clear they didn't stop along the way. The men immediately got to work unloading the materials. They didn't chat or goof off throughout the process and stayed focused. It was about 85 degrees on our moving day, and I didn't hear anyone complain. I tipped each mover $40 at the end of the day since I thought they deserved it. They didn't stop for lunch and just plowed through the job. Overall, I feel the low ratings are unwarranted. In the end, they moved all of our belongings without an issue and at a reasonable price... so what more can you ask for! read more

Mike and Greg just moved me into my new place yesterday and I have nothing but great things to say! From the beginning: the online process of doing the inventory, to actually booking and texting with Amir about any questions, I'm so pleased. The guys came on time and even called when they were 30 minutes away. Mike and Greg were friendly, personable and professional and made me feel at ease due to the fact my husband couldn't be around for the day. They navigated a small twisted staircase in my old place, and an elevator and longgggggg hallway in my new one with ease and put everything back together without any glass breaking etc. My only gripe is I didn't expect it to take 8 hours, as the estimate said 4.5-5, but I probably should have chosen 3 movers option instead of 2 so I won't complain. Last Saturday we had a move done. Danny Josh and Jimmy showed up at exactly the time they said they would be there and worked their butts off till the second they left! Nonstop up down around in out. These guys have it together. What a team!!! They were so pleasant and funny too. They worked so hard, so efficiently, and flowed together like a team. I have to say this was by far my best moving experience yet.... and they are not done yet.... we are moving again very soon Put it this way... my neighbor was walking to her car and saw the way Danny stacked the boxes in the truck and had everything grouped to be loaded, she asked me for their number and this teams names so she can use them in June when she moves! Three guys showed up and worked for 9 hours straight. They were able to move my decent sized moved from a house two hours away (that actually took them 4 hours due to ridiculous traffic), and for me moved into my new house all the same day. They were polite and respectful of my house and the new hardwoods. Moving is a horrible experience but at least they got it done quick and efficiently, during a rain storm. We used Movers 201 for a cross-country move from NJ. Their estimate was lower than the big-name interstate moving lines, and they were licensed to move interstate, so we decided to take the chance. Amir provided the initial estimate, and it was well within our budget. The documents and additional information provided along with the estimate were quite detailed so there would be no open questions later during the move. On the day of the move, Jess came with 4 others and started moving our boxes and packing the electronics and furniture quickly. When it was time to load the truck and measure, the estimate came higher than the maximum that Amir had provided. After discussing the reasons why this was (supposedly more boxes than estimated), Jess agreed to try and rearrange the boxes in the interstate truck so that it came close to the original estimate. Movers 201 held on to our stuff while we found and leased a place in AZ, and after a couple of phone calls to confirm the ETA, the truck arrived. Since the move-in place was a gated community, navigating an 18-wheeler inside it would have been tough, and the contract clearly stated the additional charges for using a shuttle truck. The truck driver came along with two locals, somehow managed to reverse the 18-wheeler inside 200 feet, and they moved our stuff up the flight of stairs without any damages. The move-in could have been faster with an additional person and maybe one local with more unpacking/assembly experience. Overall I was happy with using Movers 201, since there were no hassles negotiating the rate at delivery, after the initial estimate vs. actual negotiation. My items arrived undamaged, despite being transferred between two trucks and being in storage. I'm taking one star off for the wide variance in the estimate and for some nervous moments at the destination when I was not sure if the two local youth with minimal moving experience could handle my heavy items. read more

I highly recommend Movers 201. It is refreshing to work with a family-owned business, as you do not get a run-around! Amir quickly worked up a quote for our move between Virginia and Hoboken with very little lead-time. It was a competitive price offering to make the move-out and move-in a one day job which was very helpful though demanding for his crew. James and Danny arrived for the move-out and put their talent and muscles (!) to work getting the truck loaded, despite complications with access to the elevator and loading dock. The drive back to New Jersey had them arrive on location at 8:30pm (think: a very long day already) and Angel joined them to unload the move and deliver everything into a third floor walk-up apartment. it's been 2 weeks since our move from nj to philly sept 1, but i've been meaning to write a review here, as reading reviews saved our asses from going with a different, horrible moving company we'd just gotten an estimate from before calling Movers 201. they came to our apt, assessed what we had and gave a reasonable estimate. they called either a day or 2 before to confirm the move, arrived on time, had 3 amazeballs movers who were really strong, organized, efficient, friendly, personable (forgive me guys if you're reading this, i don't recall your names). they took great care with our things, and made sure they were loaded onto the truck well. nothing damaged. my wife and i work out/hit the gym 4-6 days a week, so there was no standing around by anyone, and we got out of our apt in 3 hrs, and moved into the new in 2.5. my body hurt for 2 days after. for them it was just another day, ha. we both work from home, so we have a lot of stuff. i would recommend this company, and these 3 guys in particular, any day of the week. they rocked. if this company has a bad review, it's a bad m&m in a package of hundreds. we bought them dinner and tipped well. they worked hard and earned it. treat yours well too if they do! read more
