We had a problematic yellow jacket situation. They were building nests behind a poorly constructed soffit 16 feet over our driveway. Call someone else - Overpriced and unable to perform the services for which they are hired. I first called Shawn (the owner) about a mouse problem. The tech came out and put poison bait down but also recommended "exclusion" work to keep any other mice from entering my crawl space. They wanted $3000 for this work and refused to negotiate. I got a reputable local home builder to do the work for $1100. The mice did go away but then after being out of town I came home to a fly infestation. I was vacuuming up 50-70 dead flies each morning and dealing with many active flies flying around during the day. The thought was a carcass in the crawl space. Shawn did not come out but sent out one of his nice but inexperienced techs. He did not find a carcass. And he said that my yearly contract (for which I paid $1000) did not cover the fly treatment. The tech (after calling Shawn) told me that I could let it resolve on its own in about a month or they would charge me $450 to fog the crawl space which should get rid of the flies in a a few days. (I wanted the treatment.) After 2 weeks of NO improvement, Shawn sent out his tech again who put up bait stickers (why didn't they do everything they could do the first time)? Anyway, this didn't have an impact either. Eventually the situation did resolve but in the 30 day time period that Shawn first mentioned it would resolve on its own. I called Shawn asking to be let out of my remaining contract and requested for a refund of the remaining quarters and he refused. read more

I'm not sure if I should be proud or grossed out that this is the second exterminator I've reviewed well, however this review is for Shawn's ongoing service than the "11pm freak-out" category. After first having an "emergency" (read: probably unnecessary) treatment with a different exterminator, feeling less than confident about his inspection of my new home, and talking with neighbors who told me they all had some sort of a service contract for pests, I did a little shopping around and found Mount Vernon Pest. I live on Little Hunting Creek near Mount Vernon and my family spends a lot of time in the backyard. We have always had problems with mosquitos and tried various solutions (citronella, garlic granules) with no success. Well about a month ago we hired Shawn with Mount Vernon Pest Control. The mosquito population has been totally eliminated! I am truly amazed and SO happy that I gave it a shot. Starting with a termite inspection, he has been to my rental property 4 times this year for treatment and a sudden rodent problem. His many years of experience have been most helpful in pinning down troublespots to be addressed, debunking "old wives tales" (or old wise men theories!) and of course in exterminating. As everyone else has exclaimed, Shawn will do his best to accommodate you asap, if not on same day, then soon after. For one visit, he was able to squeeze me in sooner because of my location to one of his scheduled appts. And he is thorough in his inspections.
