We ordered the following dishes: Mosaic fish stew, Vegetarian stew, Goat stew, and Mosaic salad. The Mosaic salad came out first. It included various vegetables, olives, feta, and some walnuts in a vinaigrette. The veggies were crispy fresh and the dressing was super flavorful. The dressing had various delicious seasonings and really made the salad. The three stews were pretty similar, just with different proteins; oh are we glad they were. The Moroccan broth this place makes is to die for. Tons of flavor yet not overpowering. The stews include various veggies, including carrots, chick peas, squash, zucchini, cabbage, among others. The salmon (fish stew) and goat (goat stew) were tender and delicious. The goat was clearly slow cooked in the stew and it showed - full of flavor and I wanted more and more. The stews tasted fresh and refreshing even though the dish was served hot and has bold, even spicy flavors. Also, the owner came out and chatted with us and he was super nice. I've been here before for breakfast about 5 years ago and loved the middle eastern spin on breakfast. Went back a couple of weeks ago, and even though the menu selection was not as large as last time, the omelettes we selected came out delicious! The side of fried potatoes was perfect. We sat outside in the back patio and it was super cute! Fenced in with beautiful shrubbery, very private, cozy and relaxing. I will definitely be back! read more

This is my favorite place to beat the heat. They have AC, free wifi, plenty of wall outlets scattered around, and they're open until at least 10pm every night. Mosaic beats Panera or any of the coffee shops around on a hot day hands down. Not only that, but their food is great. Best crepes around (I recommend the La Pacifique, the sauce is wonderful). I am a definite fan of this place. You order at the counter, get your own utensils and bus your own table. Service is good for what it is. You can eat inside or outside at whatever table is open that you like. It's super casual. The food is really good. Ingredients are all fresh and tasty. The menu is mostly Moroccan with some French and American coffee house influence. I have ordered The Atlas omelette and the Moroccan stews here. The mint tea is great and so are the coffee beverages. I would certainly advise all visiting Noho and inclined for this type of cuisine to check this place out. I have been here a few times and never had a bad meal or experience. Bon appetite! read more

Wow what are the odds of a small town like Northampton having two great Moroccan restaurants? That's right, in town you can choose between either Mosaic cafe and Amanouz Cafe when it comes to Moroccan food. I've visited both and they're both roughly about the same in my opinion. They're very laid back where you order at a counter and bus your own table. The cheapskate in me likes that business model because it doesn't require any tipping. There's roughly eight or nine small tables inside. During the day natural lighting shines through the windows. My lamb brochette sandwich was great. I just wish I had ordered one of the stews because from the looks of them they looked fantastic. Prices range from $7 to $13 for most menu items. So yes, I'm jealous of you NoHa folks. The falafel sandwich was pretty good, but not great. Unfortunately it took about 40 minutes to get. I only waited because I was doing some work. And when I asked about it there was no explanation or apology. The cashier said "oh, we were just busy". From where I was sitting it looked like most tables were empty. It was 2:30 in the afternoon on a Wednesday. If that was busy I'd hate to see actually busy. In addition, the table was dirty/sticky and no one ever came by to clean it. Ordered food online with a 20 minute ETA. Went to the restaurant to pick up my food (literally a sandwich and soup) 25 minutes later and was told I had to wait another 20 minutes. The person at the counter also didn't acknowledge me for 10 minutes when I walked in although no one was ahead of me. In his defense, he was working the counter and tables but didn't even said hello or be right with you until about 10 minutes after I arrived. He then told me he'd confirmed 50 minutes for pick up and I told him I didn't receive any confirmation of this. He said he'd "try" to do it sooner but 20 minutes later, I was still waiting. Most of the tables were empty and there wasn't a line. He also wore his mask below his nose and touched it several times. If I spend an hour trying to get food that takes 5 or 10 minutes to assemble, and spend $18 on the "convenience," what's the convenient part? When I received my food and got home to eat, I realized that although I ordered a "bowl" of soup, I was given a cup that was 3/4 full. (See pic.) read more

Fantastic food, great menu! I LOVE this place! I was introduced to it by a friend, and now I've eaten there several times. Each time I've tried something new - the soups are always amazing, the lamb marakesh is incredible, the vegetarian stew is sumptuous - everything is made to order, fresh and delicious. The cashier was super helpful. The system is you order and pay before sitting. You bus your own tables. I thought our food took a while and I noticed the cashier didn't wear gloves when making my drink or getting my baklava. However the lamb stew was absolutely delicious over Cous Cous which was a special request. I really enjoyed the carrot ginger juice drink. I loved the walnut baklava. Every time I'm in NoHo, I go to this restaurant. It's so accommodating to gluten free diners like myself. The goat stew is to-die-for although now that I used the goat emoji, I'm feeling like I should go full on vegetarian. They do well on that spectrum too. What's great about this place is that you can they have about 6-8 (maybe more) wines that pair well with the entrees. read more

So, my family and I went here in hopes of some great Mediterranean food and we got it! Food is decent. My son tried out the PB and J crepe because he likes the sandwich. Took one bite and threw up all over the table. (Credit to the nice person who offered to get some napkins to help, kindness should always be recognized) So, we tried our best to finish our meal while calming down our sick 2 year old and managed to do so and get ready to go. THEN, as we are already in our car, an employee from the cafe feels the need to come up to our car and tell us that we were supposed to "self bus" our dishes. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? We did not see any signs that said that this is how the place runs its service. And about 5 minutes before that the same person had taken away some of our dishes which gave me the impression that he would be taking away the rest. But, regardless of any of that, you feel the need to try and shame my family and I with a sick toddler and a tired 5 month old AS WE ARE ALREADY IN OUR CAR!?!?!?!? I hadn't been before for some reason, but it was great place for working on a laptop, having a conversation or even bringing small children mid morning when it is a bit quiet. When the best that can be said about a restaurant is that it serves "healthy" food -- a backhanded compliment at best -- I don't really get my hopes up for a great meal. Such was the case at Mosaic Cafe, which offers a fair amount of vegetarian fare. I and four companions went there for dinner on a recent weekday evening. This is not a place that's heavy on "ambiance." The small, brightly lit, plainly furnished dining area reminded me of a break room at work -- and none too tidy at that: There were crumpled, discarded paper napkins under some of the tables and chairs, apparently left there by earlier diners as we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. Upon arriving, you place your order and pay for it at the cashier's counter, selecting from a menu hand-written on large posters suspended from the ceiling. You'd be well advised to peruse the menu online before leaving home, as much of the food may be unfamiliar if you're not a regular customer. After ordering you seat yourself at a table in the dining area. Sooner or later -- much later in our case -- we had quite a long wait even though the place was empty -- someone brings your food to your table. After eating, you're expected to bus your own dirty dishes -- a unique practice I hadn't encountered since my days having lunch in a school cafeteria. As for the food? It's ... interesting. It's billed as "Moroccan Mediterranean." and features many varieties of stuffed crepes and stews, which may or may not actually be representative of the cuisine of the region -- I don't know as I've never been there. The problem with the food we ordered, although tasty enough, was that it didn't appear to be freshly prepared. For example, I had the Lamb Marrakesh Stew -- a somewhat depressing brown mash of overcooked vegetables; a relatively small amount of shredded meat that might have been lamb, but, lacking any distinctive flavor, might just as well have been beef or pork; stewed prunes; and raisins in a thick brown (lots of brown stuff here) sauce -- which looked and tasted as if it had been stored for some time in a refrigerator and simply reheated for service. That said, it's true that the flavor of some soups and stews improves after a day or two (or three?) in the fridge, so, as I said, it was tasty enough. One of my companions got the Falafel Platter, the ingredients of which also seemed to have been pre-made and to have spent considerable time hanging out in the fridge. Another friend ordered the Lamb Crepe, which was served hot off the griddle and was the only thing that appeared freshly made. Some of the entrees, like my stew, are accompanied by overcooked rice or hunks of a commercially baked baguette that may have come from Big Y. Prices are fairly steep for what you get. On a trip from Boston I needed someplace to get some brunch and really wanted to sit outside. Awesome covered patio complete with live tree? Check. One star right there. Another for a diverse, somewhat interesting menu. That's where the positivity stopped for me. Service SUCKED. You order at the counter, get a number, and wait for them to come out to you with your food...except, they might totally forget about your food, then bring 2/3 of your order out 20 minutes later (20 minutes for eggs?), and be completely spacy about what happened. Then, after you finally get your food, it just might suck, with the sauce over your Morrocan eggs tasting like canned tomatoes with no spice. If that sounds reasonable to you try this place out. If it doesn't, go to the awesome bakery next store and save yourself the $$ and annoyance. read more

An old friend turned me on to Mosaic Café, last night, and I'm already anxious to go back and taste what else is cookin'. I had the Lamb Sausage Stew and he had (I think it was called) Chicken Atlas stew (or something like that...whatever). Outstandingly delicious and very filling. The atmosphere is very welcoming, the owner knows his customers, the owner cares about his customers, the food is reasonably priced, and the food is just, well good. Crepes. Yum. Citron Crepe. The best. Atlas Stew. Fantastic. Avocado Salad. Delightful. Moroccan Tea. YES. Dolma Platter. Can't go wrong. Omelettes. Of all the places to get brunch in Northampton, this is by far my favorite, if only because of their crepes. If you're looking for the kind of crepe that really hits the spot, without all the bells and whistles, this place is for you. My favorite is the banana crepe, which is simply bananas and honey. I also love the desert crepe, which is a choice of bananas or strawberries with nutella and ice cream - it's sinfully delicious. I have never actually tried their savory crepes, mostly because my sweet tooth always leads me back to those banana crepes, but I'm sure they're just as good. On the few occasions where I've been there for lunch or dinner, I usually get the vegetarian stew on rice, which is hearty and filling. It's also worth mentioning that all the food is more than reasonably priced - to be able to get that much great food on a student budget is truly a Godsend. Also, the Moroccan tea! Visited Northampton again, and my friends told me about this place. Newly opened by the same owners as Amanouz (one of my favorite places in the area). Same style cafe/restaurant. Order up front and they bring the food to your table. There are tables in the front or out back. Cheap prices, for awesome food. To start we had the Hummus platter and a philo spinach appetizer. The philo app. was very interesting. It was filled with spinach but sprinkled with powdered sugar. My mouth almost thought I was eating a dessert! I had the Mushroom and Swiss Crepe which was HUGE! It was very good, different then I was used to back home. The crepe actually reminded me of the Ethiopian bread I ate once before. Thicker and Spongier then I was used to. Although different, I enjoyed it. My friends who are vegans had the vegetarian Stew. My friends knew some of the employees and found out they are working on getting a liquor license. This was my first experience at a Bring your own bottle eatery, so we brought some local beer (Steel Rail) to drink with our dinner. All right...it was cold in Northampton. Just, the nasty, cut right through you kind of cold. We were there on a day trip to visit our friend Sarah, who had recommended this Mosaic Cafe place. I thought, great, I have to walk through howling Western Mass. winds to eat Moroccan food. Absolutely worth it. My Beef Stew with rice was amazing. Big chunks of seasoned beef, carrots, chick peas, a huge plate of all kinds of things that I like, and some things I don't. Didn't matter, I shoveled them down with a Reed's Ginger Beer (the perfect complement). It was steamy, and spicy and meaty. My friend had ordered a crepe bowl and got a large bowl with an excellent crepe folded up in it, with piping hot lentil soup poured in. Wonderful. And even though we were stuffed we made room to share a honey and whipped cream desert crepe, which was so good I just chewed it and sat contemplating eternity. And when we left, the wind had died down and it had actually warmed up a good 10 degrees or more. Now, there probably wasn't anything magical in that stew that made the weather improve. And maybe it was just because I was eating hot food on a really cold day, maybe in spring or summer I wouldn't be as captivated. But Mosaic Cafe gets four and a half stars (rounded up) for feeding me a little bit of bliss right when I needed it. read more

FOOD: 4/5 Delicious crepes! I ordered the Crepe Jambon aux Fromage from the Specials menu, and it turned out to be quite scrumptious! A lot of flavors, heavily induced with spices just the way I like it. The iced latte I ordered was satisfying too. AMBIANCE: 3/5 Not much here. It's a small small place, a couple tables, pretty cramped. There was a fly that incessantly bothered us. We tried killing it before our food came but with no avails. SERVICE: 2/5 It took a while for the food to come. Service was essentially nonexistent; we clean up our own table and emptied our own dishes. I wish I had known that tips aren't really given here since everything is "self-done" I wish Sylverster's line was shorter! If I ever go back to Northampton again, that's the place I'd want to go, not here. The Mosaic is an excellent casual eatery with high quality, unique foods. Located just around the corner from main street Northampton, Mosaic is just a short walk (within sight) down the street from other popular restaurants such as Noodles, Woodstar, Bela, and Packards. The dining process is fairly informal, as you simply order at the counter, receive a number, and wait for the food to be brought to you. Bussing your table is your responsibility and since you've already paid, you can eat at your own pace. There is seating inside as well as in front and in back and is all pretty comfortable. The food at Mosaic is extraordinarily fresh and well-prepared. There are a host of Middle-Eastern to Mediterranean inspired dishes with items on the menu such as lamb stews, crepes, sandwiches on homemade bread, and more. Being a fish lover I've had the Trout Paella as well as the Crepe Pacifiqe (a crepe with salmon, mushrooms and onions in a tarragon sauce) and both were extremely delicious- and go down well with a nice glass of Moroccan iced tea. My boyfriend has also thoroughly enjoyed their crepes and omlettes. I prefer to eat outside on their patio as it is nice and airy in the warmer months, but the inside is adequate as well. Nothing too fancy and not a giant place- I've never had to wait to sit but I've seen it get crowded on a nice day. As previously stated, I really enjoy that you order at the counter, the food is brought to you, and you bus your own table. It makes me feel like I can take my time and enjoy my food. Overall: I really love Mosaic. It's a great option for something different from more standard fair you can find in the area. Normally, I would rate Mosaic higher, as my experience has generally been good. However, I arrived on Saturday night at 9:50pm driving a half hour from home with the express purpose of eating dinner. Closing time both on the website and on Mosaic's door listed an 11pm closure. When we arrived at 9:50pm ALL chairs were stacked on the tables, and we were told they sometimes close early. Not the way to run a business. I don't appreciate the useless 1 hour round trip drive for nothing. read more
