Yesterday, I had the displeasure of tasting what was supposed to be a meatball sub. I ordered the 13 Francesca, which was supposed to have marinara sauce, but it barely had any at all. The only good part of the sandwich was the mushrooms. The broccoli rabe was extremely bitter, the meatball itself was tasteless, and the bread was soggy. I felt very disappointed after a few bites, and I couldn't finish it. Maybe some marinara sauce would've helped. read more

I came in to get the Tiktok chicken Caesar sub. Honestly it was just ok and not worth going out of my way for. There wasn't nearly as much prosciutto as shown in the video and salad part was just meh. I think the problem is that the toasted "crouton" sub roll needs to be cold when the salad it put onto the sub. Hot lettuce is just going to wilt and shrink and not seems like much when you go to eat it. Maybe this sub just doesn't travel well and is better if you eat it there at the restaurant. It was about 20 minutes between when I picked it up and when I ate it. Oh, and they deleted my comment on Tiktok under the video saying the sub was "just ok." Deleting of my comment was disappointing. Other commenters probably wrote the same and got deleted. Would have saved me a trip. I should have come to Yelp first and I would have seen the other reviews that it wasn't that great. Again though, I think it is just a design flaw and should be on cold bread and with a little more salad and prosciutto. We got a slice of the square pizza too and that was good. Had their pizza and took some of the house made chips they have. Chips are awesome: crunchy with an actual potato flavor. Nothing in common with commercial chips. The pizza is promising, however, they DOUSED it in Parmesan (or maybe actual parmigiano) and that's all you can taste! It's a pity because they used nice basil, mozzarella and decent sauce (it's a Margherita if you couldn't tell). In any event, parmigiano destroys the flavor of all those delicate ingredients and should be removed. The crust is on the thicker side but very good dough and was well cooked. Next time I'll just tell them to save the Parmesan! The 'za slice is a lot - easy to share but easier to hoard. A full Roman pie can feed at least 8, get it for your Game of Thrones watch party. I really love this place when they're having a good night. It's gotten to be really hit or miss lately tho. After getting a perfectly cooked crispy pizza one night and then the next time getting let down with a doughy undercooked and missing toppings pizza.. Its almost not worth the gamble as it's happened multiple times. I have found myself having to heat the oven up and finish cooking an undercooked floppy disaster multiple times. It's frustrating after paying over $50 for one pizza and one order of wings to have to take more time to make the food enjoyable. VEGETARIANS - AVOID! We ordered cheese pizza to go and when we opened up the package, there was a large slice of pepperoni on it. We went back in thinking there was a mistake/. Imagine our surprise when they just told us - we were out of cheese, so we just removed the pepperoni slices. And then to add insult to injury offered to remove that one remaining slice for us. I'm sorry, did they think we didn't want to touch the pepperoni, but are ok with eating the pizza slice? I feel physically sick thinking about the number of times I've eaten here before. read more

Yummy Buffalo Chicken Slice! A good quick place to stop for a bite

Their saving grace was the delicious sandwich I eventually got an hour later. I skimmed through the reviews, and the issue with ridiculous wait times appears to be a recurring theme. When we came to pick up our order, there were a few others getting frustrated with their wait as well. I overheard a girl who was already eating there asking one of the cashiers what happened to the thing she ordered 40 minutes ago. Our total wait time from when we put in the order online through when we finally got our sandwich and pasta bowl was a little over an hour. My boyfriend didn't care for his "Monday sauce" pasta; the broccoli rabe was too bitter for his taste and had an unexpected horseradishy flavor to it. Two stars from him. As for my Steak Mafioso sandwich, it was quite delicious. It was excellent! I was so pleased with the first bites into it. The rosemary chips made in-house were also a nice touch. I was already hungry when we ordered so the hour-long wait was ticking me off, and how pissed I would've been if the $12 sandwich turned out sloppy and subpar, but DANG, this sub turned out to be a real hero (ha ha, get it? wink wink). Yes, I recommend this sub. I would even eventually come back for it. -------- UPDATE: I did consider going back. About 3 weeks after our first time ordering from MH, I decided to go back for their steak mafioso, still a bit leery about another potential hour-long wait. Although the counter person was was polite and professional. The food was lack luster, especially for the price. I got "The 4 Way". A roast beef sub. It come on a sub roll, with pickles, American cheese, BBQ sauce, horseradish and mayo. Price tag on this sub was $12. It came with very little meat, the meat that was in the sub was sliced too thick, tough and over cooked. Then it had so much horseradish that you couldn't taste the meat, BBQ sauce, or the cheese, and it had maybe two pickles on the whole thing. And as far as the horseradish goes. I love horseradish, but I still want to be able to taste the other components of the sub. Very disappointing, seeing the place is owned by the same guy who owns Boston Burger Company. My friends and I have been in Davis for the better part of the year and we were super excited when this place opened up--easily the best pizza in the area, and the sandwiches are also really tasty. This was the absolute worst place I've ever eaten at in my life. My husband and I came to Boston to try this place out since it looks so amazing on TikTok but our experience was far from that. We ordered two slices of pizza and a sub. The pizza was cold, seemed like they saved it from yesterday's leftovers, hard to the point where you can't chew it without your teeth cracking, salty, and looked super messy (which again, is NOT how they advertise anything on social media. Oh my gosh I haven't even gotten to the worst part, the sub. I wouldn't even serve that to my worst enemy, it was so bad. They use some old ass, untoasted, soggy hot dog bun bread and basically just throw your toppings on there as if they're throwing trash into a dumpster. I got the meatball sub and the meatballs tasted uncooked, the cheese was cold, as well as the sauce. We were so disappointed that we didn't even know what to say. TL; DR - went twice before reviewing. Bad service, sloppy sandwiches I went to this place on the first day they were open and it was a hot mess. It took them 35 minutes to get me a sandwich with only two other customers. In addition, they got my order wrong and gave me the wrong side. Sandwich was poorly conceived, poorly put together, and sloppy mess. These are sandwiches you can barely eat with a fork. Ingredients are just dumped on the bread because they sound cool and hipster-y on the menu. To their credit, the pleasant and friendly girl at the counter knew they messed up and gave me a freebie. So I came back to give them another chance. Again, it took them 20 minutes to make my sub, and *again* they got my order wrong: instead of steak, cheese, and onions with mayo, I got a sloppy, falling apart *sausage and broccoli with marinara* sub (picture included). Broccoli. Not fresh, either. I've lived about a 2 minute walk away from this place for 2 years and I'd say this place is amazing in terms of quality. The food is seriously fantastic and I would definitely recommend trying it out. There are 3 reasons I have not made given this 5 stars. 1) Wait times can be long 2) Price is higher than anywhere else in Davis. I view Daves Fresh Pasta as a competitor which has $10-$11 sandwiches which are of similar-ish quality, and normally fill you up. While I like the big sizes the price point feels a little weird. 3) I've ordered food with my family from here 5-6 times and every single time there is something slightly wrong with the order -- no chips, no chicken on a chicken cutlet sub, lump of fat or something in the pastrami. With all this being said I don't want to dissuade anyone from going it. You definitely must try it if you are in Davis but I hope they see this and improve. Just finished my food from opening night. Have been excited to check this place out for a while now, and I'm happy to say it did not disappoint! I got the Jive Turkey sandwich and the Buffalo (boneless) wings. Very fresh ingredients and soooo scrumptious. Generous portions too! Highly recommend the pickled veggies side, some of the best pickled veggies I've ever had. The sandwich menu is quite extensive so make sure you read through all of it before ordering! Looking forward to coming back again, the atmosphere is very welcoming and lots to look at on the walls. Really enjoyed checking out all the art on the walls (trendy Mona Lisa!).
