Morimoto is on my "go to" list every time I go to Napa as I can usually count on some great sushi, and tasty drinks but the service here is hit or miss. Usually I give the service a pass as long as we get what we want but on this visit, the service was really off. Our server came over once to take our order, and the rest of the night we were flagging down anyone we could to get more water, tell someone an order didn't show up, to try to get another drink. What the heck? At one point a manager came over and we said we were having trouble getting what we needed but even though he sent the guy over with water, we continued to search for our server. The sushi is still good, the ambiance continues to be loud, and we had a great seat by the windows, but my friends were disappointed and I felt bad as I was the one who recommended the place. There are plenty of other places to eat in Napa. Based on this visit, I may have to think of another place to bring people when I come to town. I hate disappointing my friends!

Food. Service. Ambiance. Solid 4 stars for each. We reserved for a space and were late but still accommodated us!

This was our second time enjoying a lovely dinner at Morimoto. Shishito peppers, sashimi tray, duck confit fried rice, and braised black cod were absolutely delicious. Shout out to our server, Brooke, who provided excellent service. Looking forward to our next time and the many items we still want to try.

Our NYE meal was so fun. We went here and had a nice meal. The food was relatively good. Some items could you a bit more flavor, like the halibut we ordered. The standouts were the 15-layer cheesecake with miso-infused caramel, and the delicious hamachi. The service was pretty on-point for NYE. There were some issues, like missing an item that we ordered. We felt like we were at a celebration with big groups of guests wearing so much sequence to happy couples like us getting a special meal. I would come back or try Morimoto's other restaurant locations!

The food was amazing! The service was fabulous! All the servers were amazing!! They know their food! They are experts on their menu. The ambiance is modern Napa and Japanese-inspired. Which is great for our first wedding anniversary! We are in Napa! We got a wine pairing in our meal!!! Overall experience was fabulous!

Had an ambient dinner for our first meal of our Napa Trip. 5 minute uber from our hotel. The entrance is so artsy and well designed. Feels like someone's home living room area. Took awhile to get seated even tho we had a reservation but got to enjoy the waiting area. Finally got seated and the ambiance of the dining room is so beautiful full of vibrant energy and nice decor. Our server came and gave us nice recommendations. We ordered the edamame, aburi sushi 4 ways, clam & tofu miso, and 2 autumn fish offerings and the $60 sushi chef combo. Our edamame and miso soups came out one after the other shortly. The edamame was warm and perfectly cooked. My clam miso soup was full of clam but the soup was salty. The wait to get our sushi orders of the aburi and our chef combo was a very very long wait i think 45 mins to an hour so we decided to order drinks. The fruity drink i was given was nice and refreshing. Friend also got the waygu old fashioned and enjoyed it. Finally got the aburi and they fired two out of the three in front of me. My fav was the A5 japanese waygu melt in ur mouth! The toro was good as well but too much mayo on top. The other two were good too but not warm like im used to getting at other sushi places. Usually they torch and u get it right away for everything. The sushi combo took another 30mins or longer to come out, i saw other tables getting sushi plates before us who arrived later. Not the best feeling. The sushi was alright. I liked our hamachi roll, and there were a few choice pieces i liked like the tuna and some unique pieces. But also pieces that were not good and did not taste fresh. We got the chocolate sphere for dessert which is fun bc they pour flaming vermouth ontop of the chocolate sphere and it melts. It was tasty some parts too vermouth-y and bitter but the middle with the ice cream is very good. Overall the ambiance was nice but the wait and quality of fish was not up to par and would not recommend.

Came here for lunch dinner might be different. We walked into the other Morimoto restaurant first but were told the sushi spot was a few doors down. The food was good but considering the premium price point I was expecting something a bit more memorable. The sushi was decent not the best but not the worst. The portion sizes felt noticieblly small for the cost. The service was pretty good and the interior is pretty nice.

We were recommended to try Morimoto by one of the wineries during our Napa trip as the perfect dinner spot to pair with a certain wine -- and we couldn't pass that up. The food was definitely interesting and beautifully presented. I enjoyed my dish, though a few items lacked a bit of flavor. My partner wasn't the biggest fan of their meal, but honestly, the ambience and service made up for it. The atmosphere was stunning, and the staff truly stood out. Our server found out it was my birthday and surprised me with a dessert without us even asking. It's those little thoughtful touches that make an experience memorable.

Overall experience was 2.5/5. For a fine dining experience, Morimoto's fell very short in terms of quality and taste. There was nothing we ordered that was so amazing we would go back for. In fact, the halibut was overcooked and hard/dry, and the edamame seemed undercooked. They also use cheap acryllic chopsticks that melted when we used it on some of their hot/clay pot items. There was no warning from the servers to not use the chopsticks for the hot entrees. The one good things is portions, they gave more food than was expected for some dishes, like the grilled unagi bowl. All the other items we ordered were not bad, but again nothing to write home about. For the amount of money you pay, this was definitely not worth it. We also came in a larger group, and required gratuity was a percentage of the total, which included tax. :/

My Review for Morimoto Napa,,,, For our first year of love, I planned something sweet, My lady had wished for Morimoto's elite. Atmosphere tranquil, the service divine, Each waiter was friendly with knowledge that shines. The Chef's 7-course special no words can convey, A masterpiece menu that stole breath away. The photos will show what my rhyme can't explain, Spectacular flavors engraved in our brain. Thanks to Dino for making the night so complete, We'll be back again, this spot can't be beat!

Food was pretty good, I would say 7/10 for sushi. The o-Toro and Maguro were cut very well, super fresh and tasty. The service was very helpful and efficient, the water glasses were almost never empty, and the food was served quickly. Inside is massive, there is a mostly open kitchen and a lot of seating both inside and outside. It is a little on the pricy side but worth the cost.

Ask the Community - Morimoto Napa

Is there a cake cutting fee?

How many pieces of fish come out with each order of sashimi?

As many as you want to order. The menu is priced as 1 piece.

Do you have to provide proof of vaccination to be seated?

No. They didn't ask to show our proof.

Do they still have the omakase menu?

No, I went in June or July and they no longer have the omakase menu. However they did mention you can have the waiter pick out items for you and provide a variety of options.

    Need reservation for lunch?

They aren't necessary. But you may be waiting for a while.

Do they allow dogs at the outdoor patio?

    Yes, they do!

Where is the best place to sit? Bar, outside, or dining room?

Outside, very loud inside during the dinner rush.

    Do they have soy paper?

    No , they do not

If you try to purchase a gift certificate for the Napa location, their website indicates they are only good for the Waikiki location. IT issue?

Is there a happy hour? Is so, what days/times?

I know most of the Mori has HH and the Napa location informed me that there is a separate menu daily starting at 3pm-5pm. I would call to confirm.

Do I have to dress up to visit the restaurant?

I think business casual or dressed up is encouraged and most people try to wear nicer clothes. With that said, I've worn jeans and a tank top before and seen similar. I've never been turned away for dressing casually.

When I book dinner reservations do I need ask for the omakase meal up front? Some restaurants only have so many offerings a night of the omakase so want to make sure I don't miss out?

No you do not, it is on the menu so you can order when you sit and dine.

Anyone know the name of the cocktail with the star anise garnish? I can't find it on their menu online but i had it on my last visit and it was the best cocktail I've ever had. I want to know if they're still serving it. Thank you.

Is there a corkage fee if you bring your own bottle of wine?

Yes, a 30$ one to be exact.

Does Morimoto serve craft beer? Thanks

Which table is the best spot in this restaurant?

Depends on the time of year. If the weather permits for outdoor seating, that is our favorite. It looks out over the river. Also good people watching.

Has anyone tried both lunch and dinner? Is marimoto better for lunch or dinner? Is omakase available for lunch?

Definitely better at lunch!!! Get the award winning burger! You get more bang for your buck at lunch

    Reverse happy hour?

Not that I know of. They just have the one happy hour in the afternoon.

We stayed at Andaz Napa for one night before Christmas to celebrate our Anniversary, and we booked Kenzo Napa for the dinner and it was walkable distance from the hotel. Kenzo Napa was established by Kenzo Tsujimoto in 2016, and received Michelin 1 star in 2018, and every year ever since. The price for Kaiseki is $295 per person, and my husband ordered the Omakase Pairing $197 and I got a bottle of Aoki Shuzo, "Yuki Otoko" Junmai, Niigata $40 to pair with the set. 2021 Suzu First glass of the omakase pairing is the sparking rose. This is made with 54% Malbec, 37% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc, with the smell of strawberry and blood orange. Cauliflower Chawanmushi The first dish is chawanmushi, with ginger, snow crab, etc. 2024 asatsuyu The second glass of the omakase pairing was the Sauvignon Blanc. The name is from Japanese meaning morning dew. Seasonal Hassun The second dish is the seasonal hassun, which is the traditional Japanese appetizer. Five different small dishes including the lotus root dumpling with bottarga, ehime bluefin tuna, shiso leaves rolled angel shrimp, Japanese yam with Italian caviar, and Hokkaido scallop with persimmon with peanuts. Sawahime Yamahai Junmai Third glass of the omakase pairing is the Junmai with the aromas of gardenia, ripe kiwi, papaya, green peppercorn, aged comte cheese. Yamaguchi Tilefish Owan This one is our favorite dish of the day! Very fresh and refreshing, with fish and vegetable and mushroom. Midorikawa Daiginjo The fourth glass of the pairing has a great hint of spice but elegant at the same time. Oita Sea Bream Sashimi The fourth dishes is the sashimi, paired with ponzu sesame shoyu. 2023 yui Rosé This Rosé was made with 65% Malbec, 26% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc. Paired greatly with the next course. Got 93 points on Wine Enthusiast. Wagyu Tendon and Japanese Taro Croquette This Croquette was made with Japanese taro and wagyu beef. 2020 Rindo And with the next course is the red blend made with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 23% Petit Verdot, 7% Malbec, 6% Cabernet Franc. The wine has great berry aroma and spices. A5 Wagyu Tenderloin Jibuni The seventh course is the A5 wagyu beef steak. Cut into bite sizes, with mushrooms and veggies. Daishichi Minowamon This sake has a strong smell of berry, banana, and pear. Velvety and buttery. Hokkaido Sea Urchin, Ikura and Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna Sushi Bowl served with red miso soup One of my favorite Japanese seafood bowl! Chef's Featured Desserts Three different desserts was great too. It has a goji berry panna cotta and fried spring roll with vanilla ice cream, and also a berry ice cream with caramelized walnut. And on the side there was a warm green tea, making a sweet and perfect ending.

The slow-roasted A5 wagyu tenderloin okakiage had a thin, deep-fried exterior that blew my mind. The only side that I didn't fancy was the white grapes and figs with tofu dressing from the seasonal hassun, but I personally don't like figs. The blue fin otoro for chef's finale of sushi selection was also very memorable, paired with the red miso soup to wash it all down. Both our server, Martin, and our chef delivered impeccable service. This side of the bridge has been overdue for a solid AYCE sushi spot and Sake definitely delivers!…read moreThey have a ton of options to offer on their dinner AYCE menu, but they also have an a la carte menu if you or someone in your party may not have the appetite for an all you can eat meal. The food exceeded our expectations and was definitely way better quality than we were anticipating. All of the items on the AYCE were prepared to order; it wasn't a buffet where the food is just sitting out for people to grab. Service was friendly and prompt with requests. Overall, a great first experience. Sake is located off of Fitzgerald Drive in the same parking area as In and Out and Roundtable Pizza. (It occupies the space of the former Outback Steakhouse.) There is plenty of free parking right in front of the restaurant. There is also ample seating inside the restaurant for diners wanting to eat in. We came in on a weekday for dinner and they definitely got busy quickly. As I mentioned, service was friendly and they were very quick with requests. Of course as they got busier through the night, the servers' attention was spread across the multiple tables, however, their focus on good service did not waver. Placing the AYCE orders was dependent on the server as they inputted requests into their tablet. The process seemed efficient as we did not have any missing items and all special requests were met. The only issue we had was keeping track of what we had already ordered and were waiting for. Some of my favorite items from our dinner included the: - Seared Salmon Nigiri - Pacific Roll - Lion King - Coconut Shrimp I was also thrilled to see they offered ice cream as part of the menu. They are pre packaged in small cups. Customers can choose from chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry. We coupled this with their fried buns, and they were delicious! A great palette cleanser to end the meal! Sake made a strong first impression. We are definitely looking forward to returning again in the future to try more off of their menu.

We were…read morelooking for the perfect romantic date night with delicious food and Ember popped up as an option. I was so glad that it did. We were also undecided on where to stay hotel wise and when we saw it was at the Meritage, which is great for families, it made sense to book both the hotel and the restaurant. Our daughter just turned four months old, so this was our first date night as new parents and it did not disappoint. For us the convenience of an amazing restaurant on site at a family forward resort was great for peace of mind. We didn't have to go far to have an amazing experience. When we entered Ember the vibes were set. The restaurant is truly stunning and everywhere you look feels like you are observing art. The craft cocktail bar as the center focal point and the tables set up the way they were made for great people watching. It seemed like almost every table was a couple on a date and the energy was definitely upscale and romantic. My husband and I love great food and couldn't help but order almost everything that looked appealing to us. The wagyu nigiri with caviar was mind blowing, so fresh. The oysters were unreal. The tomahawk steak with creamed spinach, and truffle fries did not disappoint. Literally the best steak and sides we've enjoyed in a while. The mushrooms were delicious too. My husband enjoyed his craft cocktail, an Old Fashion and I enjoyed champagne with the starters and a wonderful glass of Grgich cab with the steak. We gave our compliments to the chef who made her appearance tableside, and we enjoyed a wonderful conversation with her. She recommended the baked Alaska, which was made after her grandmother's recipe, and my husband still talks about that dessert to this day. We enjoyed great ambience, impeccable food, and tremendous service. I can't wait to go back to Ember, which says so much because the dining scene is unreal in Napa and there is always something new to try. We will be back!

Nev, you there?!…read more OOF. I felt catfished by Ember's social media pics because most of our food and the patio vibes looked different. More on that later. Opening in May 2024, Ember Steak is located inside The Meritage Resort and Spa. Probably a red flag (cuz hotel resto) but with a 4.5 star rating, it seemed promising for a special occasion meal. I made rezzies several weeks ahead and choose their patio (staycation with dogs)...but when we arrived, we were told the patio was closed. The hostess checked with the manager and they ended up opening the patio. They kept the shades down in gorgeous 78 degree weather so it was dark and took away from the atmosphere. M E N U Modern Steakhouse with dry-aged steaks, seafood, sushi, seasonal dishes, and craft cocktails. F O O D * Colossal Shrimp w/ clarified cocktail sauce (4 pc-$32): https://tinyurl.com/dbt2ymnp A bit overdone but otherwise ok. I appreciate their modern twist on the cocktail sauce but it tasted like diluted vinegar. * Carpaccio Caesar w/ heart of romaine, aerated anchovy parmesan dressing, sourdough garlic croutons, black pepper crusted beef tenderloin ($21): https://tinyurl.com/56rc8ran I enjoyed the thiccc, creamy umami-rich dressing (not "aerated") but the romaine seemed to have been improperly stored (very dry) and the plain crotons needed more toasting. * Lobster Bisque w/ lobster meat, lemon oil, cognac foam ($18) Savory with the cognac foam enhancing the richness but there was no lobster meat to be found. * Mosaic Roll w/ ahi, hamachi, ocean trout, avocado, wasabi rice blossom, sweet kecap manis ($28): https://tinyurl.com/2p9nf8kn Beautifully crafted roll, tho it didn't have the mosaic look shown in their photos. It also had a slight fishy aftertaste. They made the effort to dress it up with 24k gold flakes and edible flowers, so it was disappointing that it was served with dry, gritty wasabi and off tasting pickled ginger...more like something from a bad buffet. * Ribeye, Greater Omaha ($75): https://tinyurl.com/4xhza4fb - Menu says, 16 ounce but receipt says 14 ounce - Requested rare plus Great seared crust and rare plus as requested but it was chewy - it legit felt like we were cutting the ribeye with a butter knife. * Aged A5 Japanese Wagyu, Miyazaki ($100): https://tinyurl.com/yckxevhb - Requested medium rare I find it VERY hard to believe we were served Aged A5 Wagyu -- it didn't even have the level of marbling you'd expect from Australian Wagyu, let alone true A5 Japanese Wagyu. It was chewy and bland, lacking the rich, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth texture and deep umami flavor that makes A5 so distinctive. I thought maybe we were given a wrong cut but I was charged for the A5. Unfortunately, Ember seems to be the only steakhouse in Napa that serves A5. If you're down to drive 30 minutes to Benicia, hit up Chiquo & Eva's Wagyu Steakhouse. * Twice Baked Duchess Potato w/ chive foam, sour cream, whipped butter, smoked salt, lardons ($16) If you like hella rich foods...cream on top of cream, you'll love this. * Jumbo Asparagus w/ fresh herb béarnaise ($16) Tender and crisp but more your standard size than jumbo. S E R V I C E Friendly hostess and awesome food runner, Isaac. He was so warm and personable, he should be promoted to a server STAT. Apps came out fast but it felt like a long lag before we received our entrees. We noticed people who arrived after us, received their steaks before we did. I noted it was a "birthday" in the rezzies and nothing was said or done. A M B I A N C E Sultry chic, moody indoor dining area with teal and dark brown tones. IMO, it seems more like a lounge than a steakhouse. Lovely patio overlooking the courtyard but we didn't get to enjoy the view since the shades were down. No restroom onsite which is inconvenient. Overall, maybe it was just a very off night but I'm genuinely mystified by the 4.5 star rating. Ember felt like the typical overpriced hotel resto trying too hard to be trendy and extra with their food. Unfortunately, there were simply too many missteps to overlook - esp given the poor quality of some of the ingredients. Unless you're dining on an expense account or have a sugar daddy/mama...spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
