I'll start off by saying that this used to be one of my favorite spots in Brandon to grab lunch or dinner, but I feel like the past couple of months have been a hit or miss on whether the food quality is going to be the same as the last time I had it or them being out of the food I want when I go. This place is ALWAYS busy, and you can see why. They have tons of options for to-go lunches and sandwiches, delicious coffees, and their bakery which is what they are known for. My typical go-to options for food are always mashed Yuca, collard greens, and oxtail or fried fish. The oxtail is pretty pricey but you can get at least 2 meals out of it. Since forever, Moreno's has been my FAVORITE bakery in the area. I've seen them grow from a little hole-in-the-wall to taking over a whole block! They only had two glass cases & shelf to start. Now, they have about 4-6 glass cases, a "hot food" line, and "cold food" case for you to take things home and eat them on your time. No one has selection like them (that I have seen so far). They have SO MANY goodies to choose from! From bite sized to a custom wedding cake. From cookies to pies. If you can think of it, I'm sure they have it & it will taste DIVINE! As I've said before, nothing beats a good chocolate chip! Their Chocolate Chunk cookie, although it looks like it would be hard and burnt, it is FAR from it! It's HUGE as well, enough for 2 to enjoy or if you're greedy like me, don't share! ;) The Brownie Cookie taste just like it sounds! I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE a brownie with a crunch outside and moist inside. This cookie is THE only brownie cookie that mimics that exact texture. Cuban sandwiches are not traditional, they're just a pile of sliced lunch meat. At lunchtime the detritus from patrons is just offputting. Obviously no one knows how to sweep in this establishment. This hidden bakery truly qualifies as amazing and I don't throw that word around like it's going out of style! The assortment of fresh baked confections here is astounding and everything we had, including the old-school gingerbread man, was stunningly delicious! I usually takeout my purchases but they do have seats for you to dine-in here. I've eaten a lot of different things here, and honestly, every time - everything is always delicious, but if I absolutely had to choose what some of my favorite things are from here, they are: the oxtail meat, cuban sandwiches, Italian rainbow cake slices, Strawberry Shortcake, Dulce de Leche cake, and the Deviled Crabs. I love getting their oxtail meat with rice. The oxtail is their popular item and they tend to run out during the day. I've been told that it sometimes gets sold out in the morning and that I should call in advance to order the oxtail before arriving to the bakery. Their deviled crabs are crazy delicious! They are huge and filled up with a lot of crab meat. I always get more than one, they are just too good. The cuban sandwiches are huge and you definitely won't be disappointed. When it comes to their baked goods, I always get their Italian rainbow cake slices and then on top of that, I like their Eclairs, and Napoleon. When is comes to special celebrations, I love getting their whole cake in Strawberry Shortcake or Dulce de Leche...yum! I placed an order with them through Uber Eats. They completely ignored my special request notes (no pickle or mayo) and sent me an item that I could not eat due to a food allergy, with pickles and smothered in mayo. (A GENUINE Cuban sandwich should not contain mayo anyway, only mustard.) I immediately called them up to complain, and was told "tough luck" essentially, that "there is nothing we can do." They offered to replace it with the correct item if I drove to their store, but I had already paid an extra $20 for delivery because I was home sick and unable to drive. So I got to eat the $48 charge for my order, but did NOT get to eat what I ordered. I placed a complaint on their Facebook page, and they responded by blocking me from their page. I was completely shocked by their extremely unprofessional and unconcerned response. Always delicious, always clean & tidy. Service is friendly and quick even when they are slammed (lunch time guaranteed). Highly recommend this local spot, as they grow the quality stays high. They have tabes inside if you'd like to eat there. If you're a sweets person, you will 100% find some kind of dessert that speaks to you. The food is great, too. Well, I know this is a popular bakery in Brandon but I really don't understand why. I don't think there has been one visit when I haven't been disappointed with something that I purchased. First of all, everything looks fantastic. But looks can be very deceiving. In this case, you buy it because it looks fantastic and then you take a bite and it's nothing like what you imagined. The guava pastries are dry. I've never been able to get one that tasted fresh. The crust is like sawdust. The decorated cookies are dry and stale. The frosted brownies are heavy and taste like pure fudge. Don't bother using a plastic fork because it will break into the brownie. Yes, this happened to me and I hope it was just an off day. It went down into my stomach like a piece of lead. The pan de bono was chewy and tasteless. The mallorca that I purchased the other day didn't taste like any mallorca I've ever had. It was a dense pastry that was wet for some reason. Maybe it was melted sugar. I don't know what it was, but I know what it wasn't. It didn't even taste like any of the ensaïmadas that we had in Barcelona. They are supposed to be a light pastry with powdered sugar on top. This was not it. Now that I've emphasized the negatives, I'll end with the positives. I think the only sweets from this bakery that my mother and I like are the chocolate brownie cookies. We go there every now and then for the brownie cookies and a cafe con leche after dinner. The Cuban sandwich has a unique special sauce that I like, but sometimes the way the sandwich is made can be hit or miss. The service is good. I've never had a problem with that. I probably should be giving them 2 stars because I've had way better. I'm giving an extra star for the service, the sandwich, and the brownie cookie. Upon arrival, it was very excited to see all the options. My mom and I ordered 2 media Noches, one had no tomatoes but with everything else and the other with out mustard and pickles. Very simple order right? Not really for them. From Ropa Vieja and Piccadillo to chicken and yellow rice. Their Cubano (Cuban Sandwich) is amazing. Each restaurant in the Tampa area makes theirs a little bit different from each other so it's never the same sandwich. Moreno's is no exception. We have been eating here since we moved to Riverview 3 years ago. This is a large bakery with hot food, sandwiches, and Cuban favorites such as croquettas, deviled crab, guava pastry, and fresh baked authentic Cuban bread. There is a large seating area with cold self serve drinks. You place your order, and when your name is called, you pick it up at the counter. You can sit and eat there or take it with you. The bakery consists of several large cases with many kinds of desserts. Just deciding can take 10 minutes. They have muffins, cupcakes, pastries, small pies, brownies, and cookies of all kinds. My favorites are banana cream pie, carrot cake cupcake, little cheese cakes, and German chocolate cupcakes. They serve several kinds of coffee to accompany your desserts. The hot food consists of cuban pork, ropa vieja, fried shrimp, baked macaroni & cheese, plantains, rice, beans, and assorted veggies. I just moved to the area and needed to find a last minute birthday cake. I came in around 2 pm and they were able to customize a cake for me for pick up by 7 pm. They are so friendly and nice. The cake was absolutely amazing. The strawberries were fresh and delicious. It wasn't too sweet and the whipped topping was everything I wanted. All the employees are wearing masks. This. Place. Is. Magic. If you like pastries, or meat pies, or good coffee, or just food in general, you want to go to here. The selection is huge and overwhelming. Just walking in I think you gain ten pounds but you don't even feel bad about it. The displays of cupcakes and various pastries are beautiful. I fell in love with the strawberry eclair- who even has such a thing? There were meat pies and all sorts of savories. We picked up treats for breakfast and some pies for later and let's just say it was amazing. It can get a bit crowded but they have a lot of people working who really know how to move things along pretty smoothly and really the worst thing will be not bankrupting yourself or having to buy a whole new wardrobe of pants to fit. Ok, I think I've been to this bakery enough times to go ahead and write my review. Four stars for an establishment that has a very large variety; and you are more than likely then not to leave with something you like. Disclaimer: I don't like to review bakeries without having visited a few times just because, I usually only get one (sometimes two) items per a visit; and I feel that it's not fair to judge an establishment on how one of their cookies taste. But since this establishment is the only bakery I know in the area that knows how to make Ooey Gooey butter cake, I have now visited this bakery more than enough times. The Ooey Gooey Butter cake is my favorite item at the bakery, I love that it comes in more than one flavor. I know it's not a very common baked good so if you have not tried it I highly recommend it, it's basically a butter cake with an incredible texture, to put it shortly, so it's definitely an item that appeals to most. I've had some of their cookies (e.g. Hungarian bow tie) that I did not really care for, but the Ooey gooey butter cake makes up for that; and there are number of other sweets I've yet to try. In addition to sweets, one side of the whole bakery has savory items. They have a hot bar, empanadas and other deep fried treats, like croquettes. I have had one of their one of their croquettes and it was fine. I also had their deep fried Deviled Crab, which is one of their popular items, it was okay but I definitely wouldn't get it again. As for the establishment itself, it is pretty large for bakery and there is a good amount of seating space. There is nothing at all to the look of the place, but it is not dirty. The customer service is fine. I definitely recommend this establishment to anyone. Even if you come in looking for sweets and change your mind, you'll probably find something else there that will satisfy you. read more
