I love that we have this place in Tampa! They have a nice selection of treats in their bakery cases and pre packaged. I had the pork floss bun and it was perfectly tender and flavorful. I also picked up a package of the taro cloud cookies and these were like the cookies of macarons and were dangerously addictive. I'll definitely try some of the other flavors of those cloud cookies. I also had a black coffee and it hit the spot. They have plenty of seating and this area was clean and perfect for me to get some reading done. I'll be back in the future for sure! read more

There was only one employee in the store and I was the only customer but they didn't say hello or offer help so not the best with service. Many of the pastries they offer seem very bread forward-- bun-like breads with some type of cream, fruit, and/or other flavor inside or on top. Overall, the experience was just okay. Coconut lotus bun (4/5)-- The lotus was a new flavor for me so I enjoyed having the nutty flavor inside with the coconut outside. Oreo bun (2/5)-- The cream inside was not very sweet so it didn't provide the Oreo/cookies and cream flavor that I expect I liked it but it was not what I expected . Egg tart (3/5)-- This was on the side with the sweet pastries but it was not sweet. I liked it but I think it belongs on the savory side. It gave the vibe of scrambled egg or quiche with crust. I expected more of an egg custard vibe. It is probably best for breakfast. Sweet Buns is a fantastic place to go to when you want to study or grab a cute bun. It's one of my favorite places to buy buns and the cream as well as the custard are freshly made. Thursday, May 14, 2026 - We got there at 7:30 pm. Staff person #1 was sweeping, acknowledged 1 of 3 of us as we entered. The other lady behind the counter was on her cell phone, rarely looked up, and did NOT welcome/acknowledge us. We purchased our food at 7:35 PM after 7:30 PM. Another person came in AFTER us and AFTER 7:30 pm and sat down but we were told that we couldn't sit down. The lady behind the counter finally "came alive" enough to tell us that we couldn't sit down. I then told her about the women's restroom had no toilet paper and that I used my own tissue since there wasn't any in the restroom. VERY DISAPPOINTED with the customer service at the Temple Terrace/Tampa location...not surprised that the store was "empty "....won't be returning to this location!!!...Food decent but not enough to come back with their customer service. The Orlando branch is amazing!..both food and customer service!!! Nothing but praises for the Orlando branch. We DO drive there and we live in Riverview. read more

I love Sweet Buns Bakery so much. I first discovered this chain in Gainesville, FL and I fell in love immediately. The Tampa sweet buns is just as good too. We had these sweet red bean and almond buns as our dessert. The buns were picked up at the end of the day, and they were still so soft and yummy. I don't make it out to the UT area much but this place is going to be a staple every time I do from now on. Walking in, it's aesthetic is warm and smells delicious. You probably can't go wrong with anything here. I let the tongs guide me and respectfully tossed any diet plans away. I ended up with a blueberry cinnamon bun, red bean roll and a lemon bun. This place is a great stop, everytime we're in the USF area we have to stop by Sweet Buns. I never get tired of seeing all the delicious buns! So many different types and I just want to try them all. This visit we got the chocolate bun and buttercream bun and a pork floss and a Napoleon. So good they do have seating to the right inside so we ate two there and brought the others home. I was in Tampa visiting for work, and I saw this place online and decided to pop in and bring a few treats back home. I'm so glad I did. Cute family owned shop and the concept is wonderful, as well as easy. such a beautiful selection of SO many sweet & savory pastries. they don't just look beautiful, they taste flavorful, fluffy, and you can tell they're all made with love. for both these trays and 5 items from their cooler, i only spent $55. This bakery is a huge disappointment compared to what it used to be. If I would have rated it an 8 out of 10 before, now it's barely a 2. First of all, the shop feels almost empty -- there are very few items available, and the overall experience just feels careless and uninspired compared to the past. I ordered a birthday cake, assuming their cheesecake was made in-house, based on their previous reputation. Instead, what I received was clearly a factory-produced cake base, the kind you can buy for around ten dollars, topped with some cheap-looking fruit and passed off as a birthday cake. The quality is nowhere near acceptable for the price, and it feels misleading as a customer. If you're coming here because of how good this bakery used to be, don't expect the same standards anymore. read more

If I could give no stars I would. This location and staff ruin my birthday cake. Placed an order the day before my birthday on Feb.19 and the order did not have the lavender color requested it was plain white icing cake for $62.00. Also, the freshness of the cake was not good. It tastes like it had been baked several days prior. This cake was so bad we could not feed it to my guests. I had to go to my nearest Publix and pick up a cake. So, save yourself a trip and disappointment for what i thought was suppose to be a custom cake. I've lived in the area for 35 years...how did I not know about this place! I happen to come by this place when an old friend stopped by for a visit. We started talking about food that we had growing up and one thing let to another which led to a search for manapua and here we are. This place reminds me of a typical Japanese bakery but on a smaller scale. But the size is not a reflection of the choices and quality of the baked goods. From best I can tell the 2 cases are sweet and savory. So the routine is you pick up a tray, tongs, and don't forget the paper, and you go to the case and select your bakery goods. There's also a case for cold items such as Japanese cheesecakes and drinks and another case for cakes. There's also a selection of bread. They also make a few coffee drinks as well. The prices are very reasonable and I can see where it'd be easy to over buy as I do every time. The decor is light and fun and reminds me of being in Japan, although I believe these folks are from Korea. But still a nice place nonetheless. This is my go to for Asian baked goods. Hubby and I were in the shopping center and stopped in out of curiosity, but it was late in the afternoon so most things were sold out. I would have tried the red bean bun if they had more. What we did have was the French toast, and it was most unimpressive. My initial impression was that it just tastes like oil and 3 pieces of white bread fried together. No real flavor to it. Super clean and well-priced. This was a new experience for me. I had seen these sweet buns all over NYC but not in the Tampa area. While I wasn't in love with the buns after trying multiple, I felt it was more of a "me" issue than a "them" issue. I just love a sweet pastry and these have a more mild sweetness, so I can see where the appeal is for those who like a mild sweet treat. Eating here was a unique experience. In a very, very good way. I've had lots of buns, both sweet and savory, but I've never been to restaurant /store that is essentially a bun buffet. When you walk in you grab a tray, put a piece of parchment paper on it and grab a set of tongs. You then wander, quite happily, up and down 5 rows of buns in cases. Some are sweet, some are savory, but every one I tried (and I really wanted to try every one!) was delicious. Seriously delicious. I had a bun with egg, cheese and corn; a bun with chocolate cream, and a bun with roasted pork (where the pork is made in house). They were fantastic. I also tasted a chicken curry bun that was equally fantastic. I can't even begin to describe the various buns wise fillings ranged from traditional, to intriguing, to unusual, to "they put **what** inside of a bun?" Once you mashed your selections, a difficult choice indeed, you bring them up to the counter and pay. You can then either eat in or get them to go. What a great concept! They get 4 stars from me because they have such a huge variety of buns, desserts, and toasts. I just wish they had more drink options and friendlier service. Otherwise, it would have been a 5 star review. I think the highlight of my visit was that amazing homemade French toast. It was so delicious!!! I'd get that again and again. It had everything you could want in French toast with the exception of syrup. This one didn't need any syrup at all. It had raisins and condensed milk in between the layers. It was a good quality and an even better price. Just under $3. Yes, the perfect breakfast item and definitely a popular one. I was there at 9:45 am, and there were slices already taken from the case. The toast I had was still warm. It was perfect. The Hong Kong milk tea was a good choice to go along with it. It's given to you unsweetened, which was fine with me. You have to add your own sugar if you want it to be sweet. It's like most Asian bakeries in that you get a tray with your tray paper. Grab a pair of tongs and use them to serve yourself. There are tons of savory and sweet options to choose from in the cases. I was there for a quick breakfast snack. I saw various milk toast options that are prepackaged but are definitely fresh. I almost bought some to take home with me. There are cakes, cookies, puddings, and so much more. I just wish they had more drink options but they do have coffee and tea. The service was efficient but could be friendlier. The paper plates are super small. You'll only get one if you ask for it. If you want to share an item with a friend, then it can get messy trying to cut it up on that tiny little plate. They do place the toast in an individual sized paper bag when checking out. It allows you to eat it out of the bag like a fast food burger. It's just not good for sharing. I didn't like that the buns are not prewrapped individually like another bakery near me. I actually prefer it that way, but I can see why it's not done that way. The plastic bag would probably not allow the French toast to stay crispy on the outside.
