My husband and I absolutely loved Bakery 1908! It's such a fun experience from the minute you walk in. You grab a tray and a pair of tongs and make your way through the bakery, with separate glass display cases for the sweet and savory pastries. You just pick whatever looks good -- which is dangerous because everything looks good! First of all, the prices are fantastic. Most of the buns are under $4. My absolute favorite was the ham and cheese bun. The bun is slightly sweet and the ham and cheese are savory, and the combination is SO good. The blueberry bun was another favorite -- it almost had a blueberry cheesecake flavor. We also tried the curry bun, which was delicious. We ordered several of the hot items too. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) were outstanding. They have a delicate steamed wrapper filled with plump, juicy shrimp, and these were honestly some of the best I've ever had. I've eaten in multiple restaurants in Chinatown in both Los Angeles and San Francisco, so that's saying a lot! The Shanghai dumplings, which are little soup dumplings filled with meat and broth, were also delicious. We also tried the steamed pork ribs. The flavor was very good, but steamed pork has a different appearance and there were some fatty pieces. I'm glad we tried them, but they're probably the one thing I wouldn't order again. Another huge plus was the pricing on the hot food -- every hot entrée we looked at was under $10. Between the two of us, we ordered seven different things, couldn't even finish everything, and our entire check was only $46. Great quality, great variety, and an incredible value. I will definitely be back. I was going to say I wish there were one closer to us...but maybe it's a good thing there isn't, because I would probably eat those ham and cheese buns every day! Extremely disappointing customer service, especially from the manager. I placed an order for two milk tea drinks at 1:24 PM. While waiting, I watched another customer receive her drinks even though I was already ahead of her by approximately four customers in line. At 1:32 PM, I approached the gentleman at the counter to ask about my order. He did not greet me or acknowledge me. He looked at my receipt, looked at his watch, and dismissively said, "It's not even 10 minutes." He then asked me, "What do you want to do?" When I asked what he meant, he told me I could either wait or get my money back. He checked in the back and came back telling me it would be another five minutes. I agreed to wait. Five minutes later, instead of simply addressing the delay or apologizing, he told me I could grab a bun while I waited. I explained that I already had a bun and that, considering the inconvenience and the way the situation was handled, I felt a discount would have been an appropriate gesture. Instead, he offered to refund my money and gave me another receipt without the drinks. The most disappointing part was Norman, the manager. At no point did he apologize, acknowledge the inconvenience, or make any genuine effort to resolve the situation professionally. As a manager, I expected him to step in, listen to the customer, and demonstrate some level of courtesy and accountability. Instead, his attitude left me with the very clear impression that he simply did not care whether he had my business or not. I completely understand that a bakery can get busy and that orders can sometimes take longer than expected. The issue wasn't simply the wait--it was the attitude and the complete lack of customer service. A simple apology and a professional response could have completely changed the experience. Unfortunately, I left feeling dismissed and unappreciated as a customer. Management should understand that customers remember how they are treated, especially when something goes wrong. I will not be returning, and I hope the owners take this feedback seriously and address how customers are being treated by management. read more

The bakery is still attractive to customers. They do run special in the early morning and after 4 pm. We got the fish and ginger congee. The taste is there. My friend invited me to come try this bakery with her and we ended up leaving with so much food! We got six baked items, two meals, and two drinks, and there was no way we were finishing everything there. A couple boxes definitely came home with us! I ended up getting the popcorn chicken with their spicy sauce, which was pretty good! The baked items were decent, but my favorite was definitely the coconut lemon bread. I also tried the hibiscus refresher which honestly wasn't my favorite. It had a little bit of a weird aftertaste to me but it may have just been that it wasn't sweetened to my liking. They have a HUGE menu with tons of bakery options, so there's definitely a lot to choose from. The inside is really spacious with plenty of seating and since they're located in a plaza with other businesses so there's plenty of parking. I'm glad to see this bakery bring back the dim sum menu and adding royalty program. We stopped by to try their new menu. The bakery seems got more bake items than before. The dim sum menu got various popular items. We ordered a fish and ginger congee to take home. It was delicious. I love that we have this place in Tampa! They have a nice selection of treats in their bakery cases and pre packaged. I had the pork floss bun and it was perfectly tender and flavorful. I also picked up a package of the taro cloud cookies and these were like the cookies of macarons and were dangerously addictive. I'll definitely try some of the other flavors of those cloud cookies. There was only one employee in the store and I was the only customer but they didn't say hello or offer help so not the best with service. Many of the pastries they offer seem very bread forward-- bun-like breads with some type of cream, fruit, and/or other flavor inside or on top. Overall, the experience was just okay. Coconut lotus bun (4/5)-- The lotus was a new flavor for me so I enjoyed having the nutty flavor inside with the coconut outside. Oreo bun (2/5)-- The cream inside was not very sweet so it didn't provide the Oreo/cookies and cream flavor that I expect I liked it but it was not what I expected . Egg tart (3/5)-- This was on the side with the sweet pastries but it was not sweet. I liked it but I think it belongs on the savory side. It gave the vibe of scrambled egg or quiche with crust. I expected more of an egg custard vibe. It is probably best for breakfast. Thursday, May 14, 2026 - We got there at 7:30 pm. Staff person #1 was sweeping, acknowledged 1 of 3 of us as we entered. The other lady behind the counter was on her cell phone, rarely looked up, and did NOT welcome/acknowledge us. We purchased our food at 7:35 PM after 7:30 PM. Another person came in AFTER us and AFTER 7:30 pm and sat down but we were told that we couldn't sit down. The lady behind the counter finally "came alive" enough to tell us that we couldn't sit down. I then told her about the women's restroom had no toilet paper and that I used my own tissue since there wasn't any in the restroom. VERY DISAPPOINTED with the customer service at the Temple Terrace/Tampa location...not surprised that the store was "empty "....won't be returning to this location!!!...Food decent but not enough to come back with their customer service. I love Sweet Buns Bakery so much. I first discovered this chain in Gainesville, FL and I fell in love immediately. The Tampa sweet buns is just as good too. This place is a great stop, everytime we're in the USF area we have to stop by Sweet Buns. I never get tired of seeing all the delicious buns! So many different types and I just want to try them all. This visit we got the chocolate bun and buttercream bun and a pork floss and a Napoleon. So good they do have seating to the right inside so we ate two there and brought the others home. This bakery is a huge disappointment compared to what it used to be. If I would have rated it an 8 out of 10 before, now it's barely a 2. First of all, the shop feels almost empty -- there are very few items available, and the overall experience just feels careless and uninspired compared to the past. I ordered a birthday cake, assuming their cheesecake was made in-house, based on their previous reputation. Instead, what I received was clearly a factory-produced cake base, the kind you can buy for around ten dollars, topped with some cheap-looking fruit and passed off as a birthday cake. The quality is nowhere near acceptable for the price, and it feels misleading as a customer. I've lived in the area for 35 years...how did I not know about this place! I happen to come by this place when an old friend stopped by for a visit. We started talking about food that we had growing up and one thing let to another which led to a search for manapua and here we are. This place reminds me of a typical Japanese bakery but on a smaller scale. But the size is not a reflection of the choices and quality of the baked goods. From best I can tell the 2 cases are sweet and savory. So the routine is you pick up a tray, tongs, and don't forget the paper, and you go to the case and select your bakery goods. There's also a case for cold items such as Japanese cheesecakes and drinks and another case for cakes. There's also a selection of bread. They also make a few coffee drinks as well. The prices are very reasonable and I can see where it'd be easy to over buy as I do every time. The decor is light and fun and reminds me of being in Japan, although I believe these folks are from Korea. But still a nice place nonetheless. This is my go to for Asian baked goods. If I could give no stars I would. This location and staff ruin my birthday cake. Placed an order the day before my birthday on Feb.19 and the order did not have the lavender color requested it was plain white icing cake for $62.00. Also, the freshness of the cake was not good. Super clean and well-priced. This was a new experience for me. I had seen these sweet buns all over NYC but not in the Tampa area. While I wasn't in love with the buns after trying multiple, I felt it was more of a "me" issue than a "them" issue. Eating here was a unique experience. In a very, very good way. I've had lots of buns, both sweet and savory, but I've never been to restaurant /store that is essentially a bun buffet. When you walk in you grab a tray, put a piece of parchment paper on it and grab a set of tongs. You then wander, quite happily, up and down 5 rows of buns in cases. Some are sweet, some are savory, but every one I tried (and I really wanted to try every one!) was delicious. Seriously delicious. I had a bun with egg, cheese and corn; a bun with chocolate cream, and a bun with roasted pork (where the pork is made in house). They were fantastic. I also tasted a chicken curry bun that was equally fantastic. I can't even begin to describe the various buns wise fillings ranged from traditional, to intriguing, to unusual, to "they put **what** inside of a bun?" Once you mashed your selections, a difficult choice indeed, you bring them up to the counter and pay. You can then either eat in or get them to go. What a great concept!
