    Guava pastries!
    Dave W.

This local spot was happening! When we went on Saturday afternoon, there were half a dozen people in line waiting to order and even more waiting for their food! There is a separate line for the pastries but it turns out I could order pastry from the food line also. You just have to know what you want... Pastelitos De Guayaba! We also order Cuban sandwiches and a colada! Who can resist a large cup filled to the brim with amazing Cuban coffee? Not I! It had a beautiful crema and an amazing smooth flavor. I'll probably be awake for days but it was worth it. We wanted to try something we hadn't had before so we got quesitos which turned out to be cheese pastries. They are tasty and filling and I'm totally sure they are good for you too. Really. We love this popular local spot and the service is helpful and friendly even though I was the only person there struggling with my Spanish. They were quite patient with me. Life is good in West Tampa with local favorites!

Located on W. Waters Ave. east of Himes this bakery has been around for ages. A wide assortment of cakes and pastries fill the shelfs but most people come for coffee and breakfast or for a lunch sandwich. Of course, there is also fresh bread. My attraction is that they will make for me a childhood favorite, Mayorca a la Bonbonera. It's the Mayorca pastry sliced, buttered and pressed, then topped with powdered sugar. I love it with a cup of Cafe con Leche. In a strip center, parking in front, it is a quick and convenient stop for a tasty treat, breakfast, lunch or a party cake. They have bulk pre-wrapped goodies to choose from for the office or home. I always leave with a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling.

I've been going to this place for years, over 18 yrs. In my opinions the best cakes! Super moist, great fillings... I love everything about this place, but it's definitely the consistency for me. It's never changed! I definitely recommend paying this place a visit. Follow me on IG for more food and hospitality @danda_gonti

Guava pastries, coconut pastries, and caramel glazed eclairs. Oh my!

Oh my... I am a huge fan of their guava pastries (pastelillos)! My husband has been buying them for me on the days that I go to my chemotherapy infusions. He knows what I like, and these are exactly like the ones I used to get at a bakery called Gilbert's in Miami. These guava delights are the real deal! We gave some to my Puerto Rican mother who loves them as well. I'm only giving them 4 stars right now because this is the only pastry I've had the pleasure of tasting. I will update this review once I get to sample more of their Cuban baked items. I'm looking forward to trying their éclairs with the clear caramel coating that I've read about in a previous review. That's another pastry that I miss from my hometown of Miami. I'm also hoping that they make pastelillos de mango as well. **Update** The éclairs were very similar to ones I've had in Miami. It had lots of that yummy pastry cream filling that I love. If I had to say one negative thing, it would have to be that the caramel glaze was a little too thick. I'm used to a thin coating of glaze. I'll still continue to order them because these are the real deal. The coconut pastries were also very good. Think of the inside of a Mounds candy bar, only this filling is better. I still prefer the guava and mango versions better. Also, please keep in mind that the primary language here is Spanish. My husband gets around that somehow because he knows just enough to get by. The bakery is located in a neighborhood that is very similar to Little Havana in Miami. All the local clientele are fluent in Spanish. Again, it reminds me of Miami. Love it!

When we got there, there was 3 ladies talking to 1 customer. They were speaking in Spanish and make us wait. I dont know what they were talking about but we stand there for 10 minutes while they just talk and laugh. Then after that another Mexican customer came in and they just went to serve him, skipping us. Like really!!! After that they serve us and rush us. They keep asking "anything else, anything else". Besides the poor rude customer service, they bakery is not all that. Next time if you have customers from a different nationally in your shop, consider speaking English and serve your customers base on who show up first. I will not go back after how I was treated. Sorry.

The inside is a decent size with tables, cute decor and lots of plants. When I first walked in, I was taken back by how beautiful the pastry display cases were!! I had the hardest time choosing which pastry to get because they all looked like works of art!! Super friendly staff, great service but now to get to the goods: the coffee and pasties. This is a true authentic French bakery, no doubt in my mind. The iced salted caramel latte is the best I have EVER had. I could taste every flavor and it blended with the coffee perfectly. The ham and cheese croissant was so flakey, the perfect ham ratio and just all around fantastic. The pastry I got had raspberry jam and white chocolate ganache (I don't remember the name of it) and it was seriously the best pastry I've ever had. Most pastries can be too sweet, but this was just right. The jam tasted fresh and homemade (probably is!) and the white chocolate ganache gave it just a touch of sweetness. It is a little pricey so be warned: $48 for two coffees and two pastries. Definitely worth a splurge!!

The space is quaint, modern but inviting. The pastries are truly the star of the show. I stopped in around 4 PM and parking was easy to find. The service was also excellent. The person behind the counter was very welcoming and even helped recommend pastries based on our palate preferences, which made the experience feel more personal and thoughtful. What I ordered: two pastries, the strawberry Japanese cheesecake and the goat cheese carrot cake. The strawberry Japanese cheesecake ($15) was a perfect balance of fruity freshness and caramelized richness with a creamy finish. It was not overly sweet and the fruit and cream notes really stood out in every bite. The goat cheese carrot cake ($16) was my favorite. I would go back just for this. It was moist, rich, and had a tangy goat cheese filling that created a very creamy, complex flavor profile. So delicious. The prices are on the steeper side but I love a baker who knows their worth. Totally worth it for the quality.

They have four locations, and we went to the one in the Ybor City Historic District. La Segunda is an institution for Cuban bread and pastries, baking 18K loaves daily and ships nationwide via Goldbelly. Our niece's BF is Cuban, and he said buy anything with guava. In the box (see photo), we bought two each of guava flip (kind of a folded tart or empanada), guava turnover, and guava flip with cream cheese. All of them are delicious! I like the flaky guava turnovers the most even though they didn't survive the transportation across the country in my backpack as well as some of the others. Even though slightly crumbly, still yummy! I also bought butter cookies, sold by the pound. Those are relatively ordinary; I'll skip those in the future. Next time, we are carrying Cuban sandwiches home! I really wish I carried them home. I was having Cuban sandwich withdrawal. This location is older but functional; there isn't seating. Their customers know what they want, and everything moves FAST. If it's your visit (like it was for us), I suggest looking at the menu online to know what to order. The service is friendly, even though I can tell he was a bit exasperated that I didn't just yell out my order and I asked questions. I honestly don't fault him. Busy places have their own pace, and the customers are the ones to keep up. That's perfectly ok.

Paris Baguette has EVERYTHING I love. Cake. Latte. Bread. Pastries. What more can a woman ask for???!!! I was already swooning over the photos and menu options seen on Yelp and Google, but TASTING is BELIEVING and now I'm so glad that I can say it's everything I hoped it would be. It's like a little piece of Paris right here in Tampa! (I've been). So I've come for cake, stayed for latte and quiche, and because why not, threw in the salad so that lunch and dinner is taken care of, too! Okay, first off...what I got. The quiche is light and airy, and is basically a croissant with quiche filling instead of a quiche slice. I love croissants, so this was a nice treat for me that I could hold in my hand. The Salted Caramel Latte I thought was pretty unique, because yes, there's a PRETZEL on top of it (which I plucked off and ate the first thing when I got it. Tasted rich and delicious, and was a great companion for my food. Now, usually I don't bat so much as an eye for a salad, but that Korean beef salad looked fresh and yummy, and it would definitely take care of dinner for the day because, why not, while I'm out? It was a decent size too, not too filling, with a good variety of veggies such as cukes, carrots, tomatoes, on top of mixed greens with Korean beef, which was the only heavy thing on the salad so you don't feel weighed down. It's great to know if you're watching your waist line or caloric intake, Paris Baguette has you covered with no problem as the nutrition facts are listed on the menu so you can make an informed choice. Of course, their cakes are so good, you wouldn't help but want to indulge. Which brings me to my final point. When I saw MOCHA CAKE on the menu, I thought, OMG I have to have it!!! It's EVERYTHING I could want and more and I must ask WHY ISN'T MOCHA CAKE MORE OF A THING NOW???? The sponge cake was light and airy like a coffee cloud as was the buttercream, not too sweet, rounding out my whole meal in nice elegant, finish. The shop itself is cute, but Muffin and I ate outside since the outside area is dog friendly. It reminds me of those open-air cafes in Europe, especially in Paris, elevating my lunch experience with my dog. The staff is super nice and welcoming on approach, too. It's a bit of a drive for me, but it's really not THAT bad depending on when I go and the business hours help, too. I can't wait to go back and make this a regular spot whether I just want a tasty healthy lunch, or I seek to indulge!

We had already had lunch so we got Cafe Con Leche from their coffee/espresso bar and chose several things from their cake/pastry counter. We ordered a small strawberry and cream cupcake, small raspberry and cream cupcake, cinnamon roll, slice of tiramisu and 4 sugar cookies with guava ($28 for all minus the cafe con Leche as we paid for separately). The tiramasu is really tasty and perfect to share among two of us. The cupcakes were delicious and the icing is pretty amazing...and different than we have had anywhere else. The sugar cookies with guava are a medium size and perfect to go with cafe con Leche. We haven't eaten the cinnamon roll yet but I know it is going to be really tasty.
