I've been wanting to come here ever since I started seeing it all over Instagram, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The croissants are not your average-sized croissants--they're huge and come in so many unique flavors. I came specifically for the pistachio, but I also had to try the crème brûlée and the famous almond, which seems to be one of their best sellers. The regular croissants are around $6, while the specialty ones are closer to $10. It may seem a little pricey, but honestly, each one is almost like eating 2 1/2 regular croissants! After a long time wanting to go, we checked out State Flour by preordering. Too bad they were out of the chocolate croissant but snagged the guava and pistachio ones! They were huge and priced to match. Having been to France where they are a few euros, it feels inconceivable to pay $10 for a croissant but perhaps it's like getting 2. Yes, I would get it again but sticker makes it a treat opposed to a regular buy...sorry that's my one knock. Good lamination of the pastry dough with a cream filling made it both a great breakfast or snack treat to share. The pistachio crusted was wonderful. Guava cream even pleased a friend who tried our bounty. Service was pleasant but we didn't interact much since it was boxed and ready to go. I had been to State Flour once before and unfortunately they were out of the Pistachio Croissant that was my main reason for wanting to try the place. When I spoke with the person behind the counter she told me she could make up a few more for me but that it would be about ten minutes or so which I was okay with and glad that she was willing to do so. I told her I would visit the other shops in the plaza and be back. I waited the time and returned only to find out that she was told by someone, the owner or manager that she couldn't make anymore. So I wasted my time and spent unnecessary money on a drink elsewhere to only have that result. I know it wasn't her fault but I thought that was bad customer service. Probably more than a year later, I was down in that area again so I called ahead to see if they had any available. They did so I stopped in and got one. Now, I know Pistachios are expensive but, I do not believe what I got was worth $10.00. Even with my love of Pistachios, I thought that the top of the croissant was too covered with them to make it an enjoyable bite as it was over powered on the half that was covered. The croissant itself was a little over baked as well. I do not remember what flavor I got the first visit but the croissant was properly baked that time. I know there can be off days and maybe I visited on those days given the customer service during the first visit and the over baked goods on the 2nd but I won't rule them out, just won't go out of my way to return either. read more

Not enough words to describe the exquisite pastries and goods available here. The filled pistachio croissant is layered with an amazing pistachio custard, half dipped with pistachios. Not too sweet and good to the last bite, this is the best croissant I have ever had. The woman at the bakery explained a lot of the croissant bases come from sourdough and did a thorough run down of all the goods available. Thank goodness for Yelp. You can't possibly catch all the good stuff when driving on Dale Mabry. There are just so many businesses... and so many gems... lining that super busy road. But thanks to Karen V and others, State Flour Bakery was on my radar. It's tucked into the north end of a strip mall on the east side of Dale M. It's very subtle from the outside... with a very small customer order/pick-up space on the inside... but it's HUGE in flavor, creativity and variety. The sourdough is baked right there, daily. I took home a huge round jalapeño cheddar loaf that really brings the heat. The owner told me I could freeze it, if I didn't want to eat it all now. That's a great option. I also took home a huge and amazing pistachio croissant (they had so many tempting flavors... but whenever pistachio is one of them, that's always what I try first.) It was gorgeous... with some of the flaky, buttery croissant dyed in green stripes on one side... a gorgeous cluster of pistachios on the other side... and pistachio cream inside. So decadent, so dreamy... sooo big... and so completely unique. I will definitely go back to try the other croissants.. but it will be hard not to take home my buddy pistachio, too. They had other items, including cookies and quiches and a breakfast sandwich. The display is very tempting. And there's some local honey and merch for sale, just inside and to the left of the door. Someone with State Flour must be a Star Wars fan, because the shelves are full of SW items and the S in State Flour, is clearly in that Star Wars font. Love SFB! I love close by so I've been coming ever since they first opened. Staff is always super nice and friendly. The bread options are 10/10 and the pastries are always fresh and made with care featuring quality ingredients, which make a difference. My ONLY suggestion is to have more chocolate or have the chocolate more spread out in the chocolate croissant. I like a good ratio of chocolate to bread and this one compacts the chocolate in the center bite only. Aside from that, I highly recommend this spot to any bread/pastry lovers! read more

I'm very late to the game on this one. It's a sourdough bakery that I've been wanting to try for a very long time. It never appeared to be open the last few times I drove by it. Make sure you check the hours of operation on their website before making that special trip. With all of that said... Everything I tried was absolutely delicious! You would think that sourdough would be heavy in a croissant recipe. Not these croissants. They are light considering the size and amount of filling that's inside of them. I split all 4 of these croissants with my husband in a 2 day period. I bought 4 different flavors: Guava, Pistachio, Butterscotch Crème Brûlée, and Almond. All were very good, but my absolute favorite was the almond one that was filled with a delicious frangipane mixture. I could really taste the butter in each bite. I'm also in love with the Olive Roasted Garlic loaf. We're still sharing that one. It's even better toasted with an olive oil drizzle. I thought about getting the Cheddar Jalapeño, but I'll save that for next time. Everything is baked fresh daily. They sell more than just croissants & bread. There were scones, muffins, Kouign-Amann, cookies, and even a savory BEC danish. So many different flavors that it's so difficult to choose just one. I'm definitely going to try the Cuban croissant next time. Oh, and go early in the morning (or order ahead) if you're looking for something specific. They sell out regularly. State Flour Bakery has a small shop on Dale Mabry Highway. It's just for to go orders, although they do have one table outside that can seat 2 people. Their pastries are all very beautiful, and I appreciate that they have some unique options. I tried the guava and pistachio croissants. Guava was definitely my favorite because it had a crispy exterior and was filled with real guava paste inside. No fake coloring or flavoring. The pistachio croissant was good, but had more of a pistachio extract taste and was bright green inside. I'd come back to try one of their savory croissants in the future. read more

I've been following this place on social media, so finally decided to give this a try. Everything is baked beautifully and has a great aesthetic appeal, but I feel the flavor didn't quite live up to the aesthetics here. We got a sampling of croissants to try and some cheddar jalapeño sourdough. The woman at the counter was great. She explained everything to us and was very informative. The sourdough was the star. It was huge. It tasted great. It was perfectly baked. I would come back for the sourdough!! The croissants looked pretty but tasted only ok. The pistachio and the guava were so overfilled that they were disasters to eat. The guava was over baked and very dry. The filling was ok. The guava part, when tasted separately from the cream, tasted of a natural guava flavor. The fresh cream overpowered all the guava flavor, though, so it was a dry croissant that tasted of strong cream. Not really my cup of tea. The pistachio was baked better so it wasn't as dry as the guava. The pistachio filling tasted like pistachio extract. It wasn't too strong, but it didn't taste as natural as the guava. The flavor of the pistachio was much better than the guava, and the fresh pistachios on top were a nice touch. The almond was good. This was better than the pistachio and the guava. It just tasted better overall. The Kouign-amann would be the pastry I would come back for. It was sweet, had a nice crunch on the outside, but was still moist on the inside. They had the most delicious looking cookies, which I did not get. I regret not trying a cookie. I feel like their prices are pretty high. Especially when some of the items we got looked pretty but didn't taste as good as they looked. I would be willing to pay for something with great flavor, but I don't think I did here. read more

Phone did not eat first! I had to take a few bites to taste first. I can only give a review based on what I experienced ~ aka the gluten free item ~ but it was really good! This bakery offers regular treats + sourdough loafs with a limited gluten free offering. There were two gluten free items to choose from- an apricot and pistachio blondie with a passionfruit icing or a fudge brownie- and they were BIG! I believe they were $8 a piece, so slightly pricey but they were quality. I did receive a military discount which was appreciated. The blondie was really good- a great summer treat. First time here. I wanted baked goods so I searched bakery nearby and saw this place. I come around the area so it was convenient for me. Driving to it, it was kind of a hard to see place. It's hidden back from the road with a small sign. It was lunchtime and the small lot was mostly open. Inside is very small. The baked goods are right up front when you walk in. No seating just come in pick what you want and go. My guess is that Everything baked that day is laid out. Not sure if they have extras in the back. I got a loaf of sourdough bread and two croissants. Tried them all the same day and they were all very good. I ate some sourdough as it was. Was very good. It lacked a hard shell that's usually there but it still tasted great. Then I toasted up a piece in the pan with butter and it was very good. The crunch came back. The croissants were perfect with the right fluffiness and flakiness and good sweet balance. Not too sweet. The lady there was friendly and came right over when I walked in. When finding available parking was impossible at the Hyde Park Sunday market this morning, I popped over to State Flour Bakery in south Tampa for some of our brunch essentials instead! After all, the previous times I've tried the offerings from this deliciously good business, it was during their pop-ups at that market, so it seemed like the right time to finally check out their brick and mortar. The bakery is in south Tampa, and it had a small parking lot with easy parking available mid-morning on a Sunday. The inside was very simple, with just a table containing the days available baked goods. I picked up my previous favorites that I had tried during past markets: the guava croissant and pistachio croissant. Each are beautifully baked with stripes of colorful pastry and are filled with delicious creams. They are huge and decadent and were a massive hit at my family brunch. Just so you aren't caught off guard - they aren't cheap. The pistachio croissant will run you $10 and the guava is $8. But the quality of the ingredients, the beauty of the bake, and the unmatched flavors are well worth the price tag. Plus, you get to support a pretty awesome local business. read more

Chocolate Croissant: 2 bars of chocolate that melted in my mouth combined with a beautiful exterior. This one was so pretty Pistachio Croissant: A plain croissant filled with a pistachio cream and coated in crushed pistachios. The flavor wasn't too strong, and it was sweet at the same time. The only reason I gave it a 3 star and not more is because I'm not a huge pistachio fan BUT I still highly recommend it. Butterscotch Creme Brûlée Croissant: Although I feel the brûlée didn't add too much to the experience it did make the pastry look cute, BUT THAT CREAM. Sooo buttery, just the right amount of cream and not too sweet! I could eat that any time of day and maybe have 2 at a time Almond Croissant: I love the amount of almonds put into this one. Not too much and not too little. The flavor was spot on without the almond being too overwhelming. This has been my favorite almond croissant in Florida so far. The only reason it isn't a 5 star is because I like my almond croissants a little more on the crunchy side. Overall review: I came in around 10 am, and they still had everything on their menu in stock which I thought was pretty lucky! This was a cute local spot, and I can definitely see myself coming here every weekend for a quick bite to start my day. I was greeted by a very friendly associate who explained everything on the menu to me (even though I did a bunch of research the night before lmao). I was told that they specialize in fresh sour dough bread and they actually use their sour dough starter in their croissants as well! Each croissant I had was beautiful, flaky and not too sweet. I've been following State Flour Bakery on Instagram for a while now, but only recently was I able to finally stop in and try some of the treats I'd been salivating over for at least a year. And my goodness, these were worth the wait. I'm a sucker for anything sourdough, so they piqued my interest early on with the twist of sourdough croissants. My first order of business upon finally visiting their location was to get my hands on a chocolate croissant, and it was DIVINE... a perfectly flaky texture with a good amount of dark chocolate inside. I will absolutely be ordering this again and again. I also knew I had to try the kouign-amann, which has a caramelized exterior and a sugary (but not TOO sweet) interior. This too was delicious, even after I tried it a full day later. When I saw they had just one bacon cheddar scone left, I knew I had to grab that for my husband... and let me tell you, this thing is GIGANTIC. We split it for breakfast the next day and it was delicious and very filling. The bacon was a nice, thick, crispy slice (it reminded me of the bacon from Wright's), and the scone as a whole was quite flavorful. Now I just need to find the time to get back down to South Tampa so I can try their s'mores croissant, since I am powerless to resist pretty much anything s'mores :) read more

They were the best I've ever had. They have a couple different ones with fruit compote in them, which are delicious as well as the plain ones. The jalapeño cheese sourdough bread was to die for. It's not a big place. No seating. You walk in through a long line. Depending what time you get there. I will say her there early, because when they run out they are closed. They run out fairly early. I tried State Flour Bakery for the first time after being told about it and I wished I tried them earlier. They had many different baked goods laid out on display and I wanted to try all of them. I ended up getting the chocolate crossaint and a pastry with blueberry pie filling and cream filling (I forgot the name). I tried the blueberry one right away and it was perfectly flaky and soft with perfect sweetness and creaminess from the blueberries and cream. I tried the chocolate crossaint the next day and heated it up in a air fryer, and it was still amazing. I can't wait to go back and try all their other baked goods I would recommend getting there earlier in the day. We went around 2pm one day and they were sold out (it says they close at 4pm online), so we went at 11am the next day and they were already out of almond crossaints (I will have to try another time for the almond crossaints haha). read more

So finally made my way to this establishment I kept hearing about. I'm a firm believer that no matter what the rave is you have to try it in person. To my surprise the place was empty but in their defense, today was Gasparilla Day. Now cleanliness is very important whenever I attend an essential for any meal or dessert. If it doesn't match my criteria I will not dine in your establishment. So to see the older woman handling the food with no gloves and dirty fingernails, I was ready to leave but my wife reminded me of the drive we just did. So we ordered a plain croissant for the boys to share and the pistachio croissant for me. The boys split one since they were rather bigger than normal-sized croissants. As usual, enjoyed their croissant with no issues with the plain croissant. Now when it came to mine it was hard to enjoy with filling falling out all over my hand and sides of the croissant. After a few bites, I was over it. I get it we are in times where social media created a hypnosis where you try to create a uniqueness that separates you from everyone. So you come up with a blueprint that has convinced the majority. But the majority is just there for clout. What has been proven from these experiences of clout chasing is once something new has come along your reign of fire is also blown out. My advice for the owners of State Flour Bakery go back to creating these beautiful croissants without filling. Maybe create side cups with filling to dip (optional). Wear gloves so no one has to see dirty fingernails. Especially in a prime location such as this one. Remember the hype is right now but where will you be in the next 2 years? I recently discovered this small local bakery via an Instagram post and was intrigued. I then discovered it's super close to my workplace and have been trying to align my schedule to make a stop to try it out. Today we were celebrating our son's 18th birthday so I decided to take him for breakfast since he is always game to try new spots. The bakery is not large and there were 2 other customers ahead of us but the service was very quick and efficient. We purchased 4 items / a butterscotch croissant, guava croissant, plain croissant and a bacon scone - every single item was so incredibly good but the guava croissant WON the day! I think we will all dream of it's amazing flavors tonight. I highly recommend you coming out to try this little local bakery and taste their wares. Cute little bakery in SOG. I'm always on the search for a new chocolate chip cookie to have my husband try. My latest search brought me to State Flour Bakery. They specialize in sourdough bread, but my eye was caught by the pastries. I ordered a bacon scone, blueberry muffin, chocolate chip cookie, kouign amann, and pan au chocolat. So far, I have tried the scone and the chocolate chip cookie. The scone was delicious. The cookie was a tiny bit overcooked, but the quality of ingredients was noticeable. My daughter ate all the pain au chocolat (and loved it) so I cannot comment on it. I'll happily return. read more
