With St. Patrick's Day here and the city already in full celebration mode, the timing couldn't have been better. First impressions matter, and this place delivers immediately. The restaurant is clean, vibrant, and full of personality. You are instantly met with a massive display of bagels, cream cheeses, and pastries that goes far beyond what is listed online. The creativity here is on full display and it feels like part bagel shop, part dessert lab. Despite the line being out the door when we arrived, the operation was efficient and well run. The staff was friendly, organized, and kept things moving quickly even during a busy rush. We ordered a variety of items to get the full experience. The Shamrock Bagel with Banana Pie Cream Cheese was a standout. The bagel itself is more about the St. Patrick's Day look, but the cream cheese was incredible. Smooth, rich, and packed with banana flavor that tasted more like a dessert filling than a spread. The Maple Bacon Bagel with Bacon Cheddar Cream Cheese was also delicious, but very heavy. They are extremely generous with the bacon, which some people will love, but it can get close to overload. The maple and cheddar combination worked very well though. The BLT on the Tie Dye Bagel was good. The bagel fits the holiday theme visually, but flavor-wise it is a traditional bagel. The sandwich itself was exactly what you would expect from a BLT. Fresh and well made, just not unique compared to the rest of the menu. Then there was The Wrecker. This sandwich takes things to another level. It is stacked with chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and onion rings and feels like something you would expect from a high-end food truck concept. The cheese pull alone was impressive. It is indulgent, over the top, and absolutely worth ordering. Everything we had was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The cream cheese portions alone stand out because they really load it on instead of lightly spreading it. The only downside was seating. With how busy this place gets, more tables would make a big difference. That said, we made it work and it did not take away from the experience. Overall, The Bagel Nook lives up to the hype. It is creative, fast, and delivers quality food with serious portions. We will definitely be back.

Everything looked so much better than it tasted. I ordered the avocado blast sandwich w/ veggie cc and a French toast bagel with sweet cream cheese. Ordered them both toasted, but neither of them were. The avocado smash sandwich was decent, but the lack of toasted bagel kind of ruined the whole thing considering the bagel itself did not seem very fresh. The French toast bagel looked amazing, but was cold, not even room temp let alone toasted as ordered. Very dry, seemed like a 2-3 day old bagel or maybe even frozen and defrosted. I'm not sure. Again, that lack of freshness might have been easy to disguise if it had been toasted. Overall it's a cute place, lots and lots of crazy options. I would not go back.

This cozy little shop is located in Carrollwood Village... a huge housing development, that somehow-innearly 36 years of living here-I had never been to until now. But missing a turn, led to some exploring and then, some bageling! New York Bagel and Bean is in a plaza at the corner of South Village and West Village. The joint was jumping when I was there at 11am on a Wednesday. It was difficult to find a parking spot, but so worth it. The shop is very homey and welcoming-with several tables and homespun decor. The owner (or manager) was very friendly and helpful. I felt truly appreciated. I felt bad I was only ordering one bagel. It was big and the perfect texture. And then... came the honey butter. Honey butter, people! It's happening! This was not a drill! It was delicious! Decadent, yes-but the perfect accompaniment. I may be in love! Should I move to Carrollwood Village just to be closer? And always a pickle spear! Farrell's is also well known as an ice cream shop. Though I've never tried their ice cream, while I sit in to dine, I watch many parents come through with their kiddos, grabbing a scoop or two. The interior is very lunch diner-esque. Nothing flashy or special, just comfy, easy seating to enjoy your lunch. And a friendly team happy to help. I was told all bagels are made fresh daily and they tasted that way, too. We kept them out on the counter for three or four days and they were still soft to the touch. Don't be like me though, I was told it is recommended to saran wrap and freeze, then defrost a bit and bake at 350 after brushing with a bit of water. I did not try this BUT sounds like it would freshen them right up like new. My first thought was, "Wow, this place must be popular and really moving people through!" Then I opened the door. Turns out, those departing customers were apparently the last people to make any forward progress. My daughter and I became customers #9 and #10 packed into a tiny entryway, and suddenly I felt like I was sitting on I-4 during rush hour--lots of people, no movement, and no clear idea when things would start flowing again. There was no greeting, no explanation, no visible system, and seemingly no movement. More people kept arriving, only to realize there wasn't enough room to squeeze in. A few quickly discovered this wasn't a place where you order and sit down, so they made a strategic retreat and took a detour to another great spot on Manhattan where coffee comes with actual seating. After standing there for over 10 minutes watching what appeared to be three people collaboratively earning a PhD in the production of a single cup of coffee, my daughter and I decided to leave. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best first impression. I was especially disappointed because we had already tried to visit earlier in the week--closed Monday, closed Tuesday--and were genuinely excited to finally check it out. Adding to the experience was a smell that hit me just a few minutes into waiting. Something seemed... fishy. Literally. Since the shop is in a strip mall with a sushi restaurant, I'm wondering if the aroma was making its way through the A/C system? I enjoy sushi as much as the next person, but generally only when sushi is involved in my immediate plans. To be fair, I might not have even noticed the smell if we'd been greeted, served, and on our way. But my daughter noticed it too, so it wasn't just me. Why didn't it smell like fresh baked bread? The thing is, I really want to like this place. I want to support local businesses, and I still plan to give them another try. A friend who visited a couple of times mentioned things felt a little disorganized then as well, but I was hoping that would improve with time. Maybe employ a teen to crumble up a cookie and a piece of bread to share samples while they wait?! I don't know, but I do know the importance of customer service and first impression-it is key and you lost 5 new customers today (Friday ~arrived at 11:20-left at 11:32) I'm hopeful our next visit will be a much better experience, because I'd love for this first impression to end up being the exception rather than the rule.
