I ordered a pizza for pick up and when I got home it wasn't even hot! The bottom of the pizza was really hard, but not burned, it just seemed like it was reheated. I called to say I buy there all the time and it was just not the usual pizza, it was awful! The owner I spoke to on the phone berated me and said I was late when I was 10 minutes early and I had to wait for it to be ready! He kept yelling and would not even listen to me and I was trying to be decent. Who treats their customers in this way? What a terrible disappointing experience! And I thought I was a loyal customer! Beware if you need to complain about anything you buy here! I have a feeling he has been through this before since he is extremely sensitive about a complaint on his pizza. Omg these portions are sooooo generous. For about $11 you can get an entire sub stuffed with delicious meet and your choice of cheese. I chose provolone. With your choice of toppings (I did lettuce, tomato, peppers, and onions). The customer service is incredibly helpful and overall excellent. They are there to answer any questions you may have and take your order with ease and patience. The inside is a little warm but is cozy and small. Takeout is also an option. read more

Was in my hometown with an hour to kill when hunger struck. Given the 21° temps, I felt like hot soup. Normally my favorite thing to eat here is the Sicilian Zazza, but today I ordered homemade escarole soup. Served with pizza dough bread sticks and a Mexican Coke, I was quickly filled with the warmth of Nonna. (if only my Nonna could cook). Morena's was sold a few years ago when the original owners retired, and I'm glad to see things have stayed the same. I was the only one eating in at 2:30pm, and the Spanish (not Italian) music made it all the more homey. read more

Food - I ordered linguine and clam sauce but what I got was Fettuccine Alfredo with a couple of garlicky clams on it. (See the pic) In addition, the pasta was undercooked (I know and don't mind al dente...but this was just plain underdone. So two stars were taken away.... My son ordered a sausage and mushroom pizza which was very good, though. Nice crispy crust snd fresh, flavorful toppings. The sauce was mild, but good. Service - Friendly and quick. Ambience - Even though it's a spot where you order from the counter, the interior is actually cute, with checkered table cloths under glass and the tables set up with vinegar, oil, grated cheese, and oregano in addition to salt and pepper shakers. The lighting is soft with chandeliers and I'd you're eating at the restaurant, they will bring you complimentary breadsticks and serve your food when it's done. I was berated over the phone by an employee for ordering through Slice. Slice, which is displayed prominently on their website for delivery. The person on the phone said that my "order was annoying" and "you order through the app and I don't get all the money. You order through me, and I get all the money". I was shocked at what I heard. This is a restaurant I have frequented many times. The treatment was poor and unprofessional to say the least. I would have cancelled my order if I could have. I will not be back. The meatball sub was not edible. How does a meatball sub get messed up? I had to throw away the meatballs, add a bunch of my own cheese and just have a sauce and cheese sandwich. And I was high and the easiest guy in the world to please and I'm not picky AT ALL. read more

My girlfriend and I went there for dinner and both ordered Chicken Marsala. Disappointing. I can't say I recommend it. It was ok but more like Alfredo. No marsala wine at all. If it's not in the recipe, don't put it on the menu. read more

Having had the same order of breaded eggplant and sausage pizza with Zazza sauce many more times since my initial review, I must concede that this place really does serve some of the best pizza I've ever had (and certainly the best on this part of the North Shore). I must also note that it's been one of the most consistent restaurants I've visited in terms of quality and quantity throughout the past year. I do see several mixed to absolutely abysmal reviews being written specifically with respect to pasta orders, and folks, I suppose that's where you can really go wrong with this place. Or rather, maybe I should say the pizza is the one place you can really go so right with this place. I've never ordered anything else from Morena's except for (1) pizza with their regular sauce (2) chicken parm, and the former was so incredibly bland while the latter was neither flavorful nor tender. I would have written a 2-3 star review at best for those menu items, so it's honestly bizarre how their pizza transforms into something else entirely once you layer on their chunky tomato/garlic/basil Zazza sauce. But hey, I don't question it. While I agree with another reviewer's observation of the thinness of their pizza (regular, not Sicilian), I've never felt like I have had to compensate by eating more slices than I would with a thicker pizza. In other news, now that most people are vaccinated, more people have gone to eat in. The staff no longer wear masks, but customers waiting in line for pickup orders still do. read more

Worst Italian food I ever had in my life. Thank God I had a gift card and didn't pay cash or I would be livid. Got take out. My son took a bite of his steak and cheese sub and spit it out. The minestrone soup and the chicken soup had absolutely no taste whatsoever. The minestrone soup was in some kind of chicken broth I think. Who does that? Ordered Italian dressing on the salads. Extremely friendly staff from the start. You order and pay at the counter, the ambience of a sub shop vs. is a sit down restaurant although they do have seating. If you dine in, after you order and pay, they will bring the order over to you. Prices are very reasonable and quality is good. My friend and I chatted with a very nice gentleman who we believe may be the owner and he recommended their specialty soup, the stacciatella, a Chicken broth-based soup with diced carrots and chicken, dropped egg almost like an egg drop soup. It was hot, flavorful and they were nice enough to split the large into two bowls with complementary warm breadsticks. Then we shared the chicken marsala (no pasta). The chicken was very tender and the marsala sauce was different from any I've ever had, more alongside of a creamy Alfredo looking sauce but it was very tasty. We both enjoyed it. We also wanted to try their pizza and the same gentleman recommended their specialty pizza the Zazza. Unsure of what that meant, we decided to try a large with mushrooms and requested an extra crispy crust. The pizza came last and the crust was excellent, thin and crispy, the pizza contained ample toppings and we discovered that zazza was more like a bruschetta topping versus traditional pizza sauce. A bit on the tangy versus sweet side and though it was good, we both would have preferred the more traditional pizza sauce. The Zazza topping made the pizza a little soggy. We could only eat half of the pizza and left with four large slices. Total tab $42 which was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food. Will return to try other items on the menu. I have only ever gotten take-out from Morena's, but it's one of the best pasta take-out places in Wakefield. I appreciate that they are friendly, fast, and efficient for picking up food. My favorite pasta dish is their Linguine aglio e olio. I've tried other ones including their marinara sauced pastas and also their 'ravioli in bianco' dish--all of them were great. Of course, Morena's also serves pizza which I've gotten before (it was good but I'm a big NY pizza fan instead), however 9 out of 10 times I would order their pasta over pizza. In case anyone is wondering, you can order garlic bread which is not listed on their menu. read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews however after trying this place for the first time I'm baffled at how the reviews are mostly positive. I ordered fettuccine alfredo. It was more like dry buttered flavorless noodles. There was minimal Alfredo sauce to be seen or tasted and the dish was overall really bland. My boyfriend got linguine aglio e olio and you can barely taste the garlic which is a key part to this dish? And it had olives in it which is not traditional but I guess if they have their own spin on it, fine. Maybe it was a bad night or we didn't order their best dish but it didn't leave a great impression. read more

I've been eating here most of my life. Very reasonable prices for high quality food. It's one of those secret gems that isn't huge but has amazing food. My favorites are their chicken parm subs and pizzas. Soups and salads are great too! Their biggest asset is Pedro! He is the best and I love seeing him when I get in! read more

The plain cheese pizza isn't the best and the ratio for the Italian subs is way off. For the Italian sub they give you more toppings (especially chunks of tomato) than they do meat. Not sure if the pizza was just off today or if it's always like this but the sauce was so bland and the cheese tasted incredibly grainy, it didn't sit to well with the sauce and practically slid off when I picked it up . Grew up in Wakefield and still come down from Billerica to get their Zaza Sicilian Pizza as there is none like Morena's around the area. This is the best pizza place around. I have only had one pizza that is comparable and that is outside of Atlantic City NJ at a place called Carluccio's Coal Fired Pizza that is on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. If you are in the area you will have to try this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is amazing read more

When I arrived the interior was laid out properly for social distancing with tape on the floor for guests and for approaching the counter space. Ordered takeout and the white pasta broccoli with chicken was awful. The chicken looked like parts one would cut off as scraps because of the cartilage, etc one trims. Such a place! I've met the owner a number of times. She and her crew make all the food from scratch. Soup is fantastic, pasta, pizza, hippy rolls (just buy one and try it) all great stuff. And there's a guy named Pedro working there - Love that guy! I'd bring cash, they don't handle plastic well. Also, drinks come out of a vending machine. Wasn't too impressed today was wondering why when Morena's has always had great food. I found out the place has been sold :( how disappointing. I am so, so excited that we discovered this little local place in Wakefield! We came here on a weekday night for dinner, and found that there was a steady flow of patrons - it seems to be the type of place that has a lot of regulars, and where "everybody knows everybody." We got our food to eat there, and were pleasantly surprised to find that the meal came with free breadsticks (yay!). Everything came out very quickly, and while there was a little bit of initial confusion about which table ordered a particular item, it was quickly resolved. I ordered the stracciatella soup, which came out in a good-sized bowl and was piping hot (everything we saw come out of the kitchen was actually piping hot - you can tell that everything is served directly from the oven right to your table, which I love!). I had never had stracciatella soup before, but had ordered it per some of the other reviews on here, and let me just say - I am converted! I'm already excited to come back here and get another bowl of what may just become my new favorite comfort food. It reminded me of a cross between chicken noodle soup and a Chinese egg drop soup - so good! I also got a side tossed salad, which I was pleasantly surprised by - I loved that it came already tossed in dressing (a light, flavorful Italian dressing), and was nice and cold... I'm a sucker for when salads are cold instead of room temperature! My husband got the chicken parm, which looked (and smelled!) delicious as well - the portion was big enough to allow plenty of leftovers for a second meal. With all the Italian places in town, I am shocked this is a favorite for people. Knowing the sizes of the meals the other places in town serve, we ordered chicken parm and stuffed shells for our family of four. Usually we'd have leftovers ordering this way. The dinkiest two entrees arrived. The chicken parm did not come with the pasta as advertised on Uber eats so we had three stuffed shells to split between four people. The chicken parm was probably the equivalent of less than one chicken breast. I called directly and asked why there wasn't pasta and was told it's separate. So I checked and yes it says that on their website, but not Uber eats. Also the man I spoke with and didn't speak great English was extremely rude. Happy we have so many other great options in Wakefield that are just as tasty and way more bang for your buck! read more

I ordered a Sicilian pizza and the sauce on the pizza was bland and had no seasoning. I also ordered 3 panini's and received 3 subs, which is funny because there are no subs on the menu! That is a little deceiving to me! If I wanted subs I would have ordered from a sub shop! One of the subs was a meatball and the meatballs had a weird consistency and also had no flavor! My daughters and I just ordered an amazing dinner ! Chicken parm with ravioli and two soups and a salad as sides! Everything was so delicious. I loved the ravioli especially but the chicken was fantastic - not over cooked or over breaded or over oily! Just perfect. Really, really good Sicilian pizza and their regular pie is awesome as well. I have not sampled anything else on the menu... but if their other offerings are as good as their pizza this is a true 5 star spot. I noticed there are a lot of regulars who dine in, it is nice to see that. read more
