Mike Moran and his team recently designed, built and installed a fantastic horizontal blind over our patio in north county San Diego. It was exactly the design and look we were hoping for. Mike came to our house on a Saturday morning arriving exactly on time and only took 25 minutes to view the area, create the design and provide a quote. If only all contractors were so efficient. We were warned it would take a few weeks to be built but when it was ready they scheduled a time that worked for us and turned up on time and did a great job. We bought a home over a year ago and the owners saved paperwork from pretty much everything they ever had done. We weren't sure exactly what we wanted as a pattern and they let us take their sample book home. We found the perfect selection and they came and installed it yesterday and we are very pleased. I had them fix a hem in a awning they made for a previous owner. At the same time I had a new logo installed on it. Both turned out great. Pretty impressive how long the canvas has lasted. I wanted to get a quote for a patio shade and tried contacting Moran Canvas. I emailed them but got no response so i called. I spoke to Vanessa and she said that they have a 4 week wait for production. I informed her that its ok as long as we get a quote that we can submit to our HOA soon. She agreed and told me that someone will contact me. On Friday, Mike called and said that he can come out to give us a quote. He came, made measurements and told us he will send us the quote. On Monday, i called to inquire about the quote and Mike said that he never came to our home and do not have any record. He said he will have Vanessa call me back. A couple of days after, another person called and said they that they choose not to do the project with us. She didnt tell me why until i asked and then she said because they have big projects and cant accomodate us. 1 star for coming down to our home for such a short notice 1 star for calling back to tell us they wont do the project. I would have appreciated it if Mike would have told us right there and then when he was at our home that our project is too small for them, that they only do big projects, or they are too busy, or whatever reason it is, instead of forgetting about us, making us wait and then denying us. read more

We hired Moran Canvas Products to replace a 10 year old waterproof canvas cover over an 800 square foot section of deck, which includes electronics, fans and lighting. Prior product was waterproof and worked perfectly until the final months of its use. Moran installed a product that immediately allowed large amounts of water to come through the canvas. When contacted to discuss the problem, Mike Moran did not reply to emails and phone calls for several days, then laughed at my wife about her concerns. It took us about a week to get him to come look at the problem and his only response was that it was "normal condensation coming through the canvas." He expressed no interest in looking at pictures or offering a solution, other than telling us it wasn't his problem. read more

Several years ago we purchased a used electrical awning from a neighbor that had been originally a purchase through Moran Canvas. Since it is now at least 12 years old it needed a new canvas. We live in the La Mesa area close to Moran Canvas so I decided to stop in to see if they could replace this for us. I was delighted that they said yes. I chose a new fabric and ordered. We have a family wedding this week so I asked if they could get the job done in 4 weeks. They said yes! Yesterday, a few days before our guests are to arrive, the two installers came out and did the install. They also gave the metal structure a tune up, tightening and leveling the canvas. It really looks great, and I'm sure it will be good for another 10 years or so! Their customer service was exceptional and we highly recommend them. read more

If I could give zero stars I truly would. I was referred to this business by another business owner who was unable to provide what I was looking for but thought these guys would fit the bill. I called and talked to Ron, the owner, and he was probably the rudest business owner I have ever come across. He did not even let me explain what I wanted a quote for before cutting me off rudely, saying they were very busy, had at least 8 weeks of work, and (essentially) would have to "get in line". Im unsure if the amount of business he has is getting to his head but that is a terrible way to talk to potential customers and to run a business. I would think twice about bringing more business and money to such a rude person. read more

My builder referred me to Moran Canvas and I am glad he did. I've used them for three jobs so far over the years. Very solid family run company: 1. Excellent design process, final work product (with lasting sturdy quality) and installation; 2. Very professional. Everyone is a pleasure to deal with; 3. Excellent communication and delivery. Responsive, punctually, reliable. Plus, we found them to be competitively priced. Job 1: We wanted window awnings for the south and west sides of our house. We scoured Google Images and found a picture of these cool contemporary awnings from a hotel in England. Moran said "no problem" and convened a highly competent site meeting where they also helped us refine color selections for both metal support and fabric. Job 2: Our 20' x 23' main patio trellis let in way too much light. Moran visited the site, gave us our options and encouraged us to do the lowest cost solution: simply secure a layer of screen shade (like a fancy sun sail) atop the trellis. A perfect elegant solution and, again, easy from first call through install. Job 3: The open west side of the same patio trellis area had too much sun in the summer afternoons to use the area. Moran showed up and per usual gave us some options, and we ended up putting in motorized roller shades. They powder coated all the metal parts with paint color to match the trellis itself and used the same material and color as the ceiling shade previously installed. All three jobs look super clean and sharp! I highly recommend! read more

We just hired them for the third time in four years on another project, and they came through for us again. This time we needed a custom shade sail and to have some old awnings updated. The shade sail is fantastic, with custom brackets holding it In place and first-rate, stainless steel hardware. We searched for months for a company that would be willing to do a fairly small job. If you look at Moran's reference list, you'll see a lot of large companies they have serviced (Starbucks, Point Loma Seafoods, Sprouts, etc.). That in itself speaks volumes. Moran has been around for years! We wanted a canvas structure that would give us privacy to lounge freely and enjoy our beautiful patio. My initial meeting with the gal there went well. I am writing this review based on the sunshade purchased from Moran Canvas that were installed on our pergola that we recently built. Everyone we dealt with was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Moran Canvas helped me turn my sun baked deck into a shade filled outside room that is now like a pool side cabana minus the pool. :/ After a brief call, their designer showed up at my house to see the deck and learn of my desires for shade and privacy. We walked through various features and settled on beautiful stripped sunbrella canvas curtains on two sides of the deck, and 95% shade fabric on the roof of the deck, and a roll down 95% shade blind. A few weeks later, ok, maybe it was six because it was summer, their installers showed up and within six hours my deck was transformed beyond my imagination. The work that Moran Canvas puts into their products is impressive. The cabana curtains are weighted down on the bottoms so they don't blow loosely in the wind, they're attached at the ends to the deck posts so they close completely for privacy, and they have clasps where join - again for privacy. Now, the only thing to note about this type of a make over, is that it's not cheap. A lot of labor goes into manufacturing the materials, and then cutting and sewing the canvas and shade products. I really wanted to be able to use my deck in heat of the summer so I went ahead with the complete makeover and bore the pain of the cost. However, once I saw the finished product, and the quality of their work, I had no second guesses. It's worth every penny. read more

We recently remodeled our patio at our home in Bay Park. We wanted to install some shade sails instead of a gazebo or other sort of structure because we didn't want any poles on the deck and the sails looked like they would be really cool. Moran's came out, measured and were super accommodating, providing us with a written estimate in just 1 day.They have a great selection and offered a lot of support when we were designing the sail and making the decision about the installation. They custom made the sail and came out and installed it. It came out great but was sort of too small. It was not what we expected. The owner came to my house, remeasured and they made and installed a new sail for us. I was stunned. They provided the best customer service I have ever had from any company ever, hands down, no contest. I thought I was going to have to settle for something I wasn't quite happy with but I was wrong. They absolutely made it right. I would recommend this company to anyone, period. And, just to make it more awesome, they were the least expensive estimate I got in the beginning of my project! I got the best shade, the best service and the best price from the best shade company in town. If you have shade needs and are considering a shade sail installation, check these guys out first. I called Moran Canvas based on Yelp Reviews, so I thought I should post about my disappointment with their service. I wanted to get a price and discuss options for a canvas awning for our Little League bleachers. Mike said he had done many such awnings, and would be in town that day so he promised to swing by and take a look at our set up. Didn't hear from Mike. I just called back (a couple of weeks later), and Mike told me that he had not been able to swing by and that they were 6 - 8 weeks "out" for being able to handle our job. I told him I was disappointed and that the backlog info would have been nice to know when we first talked - especially since our season is only 12 weeks long. read more
