ONE STAR -- Beautiful finished patio cover, absolutely HORRENDOUS experience. Would never recommend…read moreRKC Construction.
We signed a $34,000 contract with RKC in April 2026 for a patio cover we had been dreaming about for years. We were given an estimated 12-13-week project timeline, which meant the project should have been completed by mid-July. We were also repeatedly assured that the actual installation would take just 2-3 days.
Instead, installation didn't even BEGIN until Friday, August 14--after I repeatedly had to contact the company for answers about when work would start and when anyone would return to continue it. During that time, I received multiple rude and unhelpful updates blaming manufacturing delays, pointing fingers at other employees for failing to communicate, and saying they were "really busy."
At one point, someone even told me that my phone number was not written on the contract, so they had no way to contact me. That seems like an issue for 1) the salesperson, who failed to record critical contact information, and 2) everyone else at the company, who could have used the email address listed on the contract. This excuse was especially absurd because I had already called, left multiple messages, and communicated with the company repeatedly to request updates. They clearly had my contact information--we had spoken--but apparently that information was not being shared internally.
Installation finally began a full month after the project should have been completed, during our children's first week back at school. This completely defeated the purpose of having a new sunshade to enjoy our outdoor space during the summer.
The foreman, Tim, even told me he had been assigned to "deal with me" because the customer support representative, Mike, no longer wanted to "deal with me." Thanks for making your paying customer feel terrible for asking the company to complete the work it had been contracted to perform.
And then, the installation dragged on for another TWO AND A HALF MONTHS.
What was supposed to be a simple 2-3-day installation turned into a revolving door of subcontractors, with a different person sent out for nearly every stage of the job: one for digging the holes, one for pouring concrete, one for installing the 2x4s, one for stucco, and another for the gutters.
At first, I would receive a vague heads-up that someone was coming, although workers were rarely on time. Toward the end, even that minimal courtesy disappeared. Workers began showing up randomly with no notice at all. One subcontractor arrived at 6 p.m., right in the middle of dinner. Others showed up on a Saturday morning as we were leaving for a little league game.
The project finally finished on October 22, after I repeatedly refused to make the final payment because the gutters--the same gutters RKC had removed on day one--still were not working properly. I had to have a very heated conversation with Tim, the foreman, before Rick, the owner, finally became involved.
The issue appeared to be that RKC did not want to pay to correct a problem created during the project. Instead, they suggested that I was asking them to replace all of my gutters for free.
That was not what I was asking. I simply wanted RKC to reinstall the gutters they had removed and make sure they worked properly so water would be directed away from the house rather than toward it.
Rick eventually came out to inspect the problem, took one look, and said, "Yeah, that looks like crap and clearly doesn't work. I'd be upset too." That was in September, even though the project did not officially finish until October 22.
And that doesn't even cover the company's complete lack of care for our property or our family's safety. After every visit, I had to walk the job site myself, searching for and removing nails, screws, metal shavings, and other debris scattered around our house. This was not a minor inconvenience. It was dangerous, especially with children around, and it left us feeling that no one at RKC was taking responsibility for the mess being left behind.
Let that sink in: a project that was supposed to be completed by mid-July didn't even start until mid-August, and a promised 2-3-day installation took nearly 10 weeks.
The finished patio cover looks good. But getting there was an exhausting, chaotic, and deeply frustrating experience. RKC may have delivered a nice-looking final product, but the process was marked by poor communication, missed expectations, unreliable scheduling, careless cleanup, and a lack of respect for our time, our home, and our family.
Beautiful result. HORRENDOUS experience. One star.
