Just ok. Biscuits were good. My husband really liked the scrambled eggs. I got the veggie omelet; wouldn't get it again. The hash brown casserole was ok, nothing to write home about if you ask me. Gravy good though it tastes like a mix to me. Grits were a bit too runny for my taste and they came out cold. Not a place for a quick bite; took forever to get our food. This morning will be my last time to eat at the Moose Cafe. The grits were so undercooked they were inedible. The scrambled eggs were rubbery, the gravy was cold, they served a breakfast casserole that consisted of mashed potatoes with cheese. The bacon was undercooked. Now there were only 4 tables with people while we were there, so no excuse for cold food. Our breakfast was over $20.00 for 2 people..Money wasted. The new cook needs to go back to school. read more

If you are breaking a fast and need a massive meal, this can be your place. We went for breakfast and the portions are huge... And I'm a big eater. We started with the complimentary biscuits and apple butter. The biscuits are pretty big and very heavy. They were moist and pretty dense as far as biscuits go and were very fresh and warm. The apple butter is almost like a cold apple sauce. My wife had their 1-2-3 Breakfast which came with a Moose Cake which is a massive pancake that she could not finish, 2 eggs and 3 strips of bacon. Our boys opted for the Stuffed French Toast. It was made with Hawaiian Bread, then had a slathering of cream cheese and strawberries between the pieces. They liked it, but it's also a good sized portion and they suffered a sugar crash later. I had the Farmer's Omelet. I'm not sure how many eggs were involved, I'm guessing 4. It was like a burrito but with an egg around the outside instead of a tortilla. This thing does not lay on your plate in a flat half circle. It looks like a mega burrito. It was stuffed with bacon, sausage, peppers, onions, cheese and mushrooms then topped with a "cheese gravy" and more cheese. The sauce was almost like a be bechamel sauce for macaroni and cheese. This was served with cheesy hash brown casserole and biscuits and gravy. I'm a big guy and can put away a couple of pounds of food in one sitting, but only finished 3/4 of my omelet, all of the hash browns and didn't even touch the biscuit and gravy. Perhaps the biscuit at the start of breakfast did me in. Most of the breakfast meals were priced at $7.99, including an all you can eat option. The Farmers Omelet was $8.99 and was a bargain considering how much food you get. The food was all served fast, hot and was tasty. It's all simple country style cooking, nothing too fancy and nothing too expensive. The service was on point today as well. I had such high hopes for this place. I love breakfast and looked forward to trying this restaurant for quite a while. I had checked out the menu a couple days before arriving and saw many options I would have liked to try. Well... we got there on Saturday morning and only waited a short period of time to be seated. That quickly changed when the seat was dirty so I had to wait for the hostess to come back and clean it, then once we sat down, I had to see all the dead bugs in the window seal... gross... We usually love both of these items... these were just blah... neither of us finished a whole biscuit (and it's not because we couldn't) and had apple butter left over, just not good. My husband ordered the all you can eat breakfast meal and I ordered the fried chicken breast special. His bacon was cold every time they brought him some, he finally had to ask for some hot bacon. Our gravy was tasteless, the hash brown casserole was the worse I have ever tasted. I sent it back and at the suggestion of the waitress, I got the home fries... they were hard as a rock! Sent them back and got cheese grits which were ok. My chicken tasted pretty good and so did my eggs. Back to the cleanliness... the salt and pepper shakers looked as if they had never been wiped off. There was gunk on top of both and I hated to use either. I tried wiping off one of them with my napkin and the stuff didn't budge. It was gross! Our waitress... she wasn't very attentive at all.. We had to flag her down multiple times when we needed anything. Our water had gotten low, we had to ask for a refill... I told my husband about 3 different times, I wish we had a different waitress. We were watching the other waitresses tend to their tables much better than what we got. At the end of the meal, my husband expressed his disappointment to the waitress in her service. She sent the manager/owner out to speak with us. She was very nice and apologetic and ended up taking our check so we didn't have to pay for our meal which was nice although we would have rather enjoyed our experience. I cannot say enough positive things. This gem is the best of the best with farm to table greatness. Fresh strawberries on the strawberry salad was to die for! Had lunch today with a friend at the Moose Café and the first thing I noticed was the Health Grade which was a 92. If it hadn't been for my friend I would have walked out. I ordered chicken and dumplings and to be honest they were very dry, no juice at all. They even looked dry with the waitress brought them to the table. My friend ordered coffee and if it had been any stronger it would have gotten up and walked out. I don't know how she was able to drink it but she managed to get it down. I know the restaurant is under remodeling but there is no excuse for some things. It will be a very long time if ever that I visit the Moose Café again. read more

I'm staying in Greensboro for work. The Moose Cafe was recommended by someone I'm working with. They did right by me!!! From the biscuits and homemade apple butter to the country fried steak and hand breaded chicken tenders. This place is Southern comfort food at its finest!!! They sure give you lots of food at the Moose Cafe! When we sat down we were served two huge warm biscuits with apple butter. Delicious! The menu was extensive, similar to Cracker Barrel's fare. Roy ordered fried fish (two very large pieces), potatoes, and cabbage casserole. I ordered a vegetable plate - four of the side items offered: vegetable soup, chicken casserole, slaw, and green beans. Although, Moose's website indicates that because they are located inside the Farmer's Market, they offer fresh vegetables, that was not the case with the food we ate.The vegetables in my soup and casserole were of the canned VEG-ALL sort. We weren't too sure about this place when we first pulled in, but when we got inside, we knew this was the place to be. This place is jamming, if you are looking for good eats, it is here. They are a true southern cooking place, and we are planning on this place to always be our Sunday morning choice for breakfast. The biscuits are ok, but the apple chutney they serve with them are divine. My daughter had a moose cake, at it was huge and really good. My husband and I had the all you can eat breakfast, and they basically bring you this big plate of food and whatever else you want, you just ask as you go. I broke my Vegan diet, and at some bacon and eggs.....and holy cow was it worth every bite. We ate here with some friends. They warned us the service wasn't great but the food made up for it. Well - it must've been a really bad day. Our server looked like she was about 14 and she did say this was her first time serving breakfast. The booster seat we requested was disgusting. When we asked for assistance - they gave us a rag to wipe it with. Then we were bought dirty bread plates for our biscuits. So dirty they were stuck together and had noticeable crumbs. Then we had no spoons for our coffee. The food was not good. None of us finished our meals. The blueberries on top of the pancakes were like little blue rocks. Mine on this date was the fried chicken and chicken livers mash potatoes, and cabbage, cornbread. WOW plenty on the plate. Food was great.. However the atmosphere was not a WOW...it was hot and loud several customers complained about the heat along with the 4 of us. Moose is fun to go to as it reminds you of the meals your grandparents love and survived on prior to the days of the super super market. The sides and entrees are American down home classics. Very economical, very nice waitstaff but the quality of the food is slightly above average. For example a recent fried okra side was soggy, squash side was not pleasant, ribs were pretty fatty. The cornbread is to die for and the fried chicken (although quite peppery) was nicely done.
