Store inside Time out market. I ordered mixed seafood which included cod, shrimp and squid. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty. Highly recommended

1st of all, Lisboa has two Monte Mar locations. One at the Time Out food hall and the other, by the ocean, other side of the train track. I went to both of them. Here is the address of The Monte Mar Liaboa by the sea side. R. da Cintura do Porto de Lisboa Armazém 65, 1200-109 Lisboa, Portugal. Google it. Views were amazing, excellent service and delicious seafood, you must try this location. Right on the water. If you drop food on the floor, might fell thru the gap and feed the fish. Carlos our waiter was very attentive. See my photos of receipt, the food and the views. Couvert means basic table setting of bread and olives for this restaurant. Three is a person who does nothing but cutting the bread and buttering each pieces. Portuguese love freshly baked bread. Me too! Clams (Amejoas) prepared in a traditional way with chunks of garlic and cilantro in olive oil at €32. Worth it. Stick bread into it to let it soak up the juices. The babe squid (Lulas Grelhadas) was very tender and I used a fork to cut in half but not necessary. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

Food: Tried this place out at the TimeOut Market because their octopus dish caught my eye! Huge serving of an octopus leg over some starch made my mouth water as I made my round around the market to see what to eat! Cost: A little on the pricer side in comparison to dishes and restaurants outside of the market however it was worth the amount of food and quality of the dish! Environment: Located within the timeout market, the place can definitely get a little hectic! Seating can get a little difficult, especially if you come during a busy time! Service: The food itself seemed to have been prepared pretty quickly. They give you a beeper that will vibrate once your order is ready to be picked up- simple! Uniqueness: My favorite part was most likely the visual aspect of seeing such a large roasted octopus tentacle for me to devour!

The establishment gets a 4 for ambiance and waterfront seating. The service is a 5 as the servers are attentive, patient, provide recommendations and are pleasant. Having had seafood all over Portugal, I'd say they have a fresh selection and try to offer some dishes beyond the standard. The food is prepared well but not the most flavorful or cooked to preference. For example the potatoes are boiled without seasoning, sauces are mild so that doesn't compensate for a boiled potato. Many restaurants there have roasted potatoes , which are crisp with a pinch of salt. The same applies to the fish. My preference is a nice crisp skin on my fish when the skin is on. The lobster bake is well enough but the lobster is so minced, you aren't sure if there is any inside.

First of all, yes there are two locations of Monte Mar, one by the sea and one .3 miles away. I went to the one by the bay, and I have to say my experience there was impeccable. This was my first time visiting Portugal and the experience was terrific. I loved this restaurant because the food was spectacular and the servers were attentive and funny. I would recommend this location 100 times over and I don't think there is one flaw. I ordered the mussels, and they were excellent. But in my opinion they could have been a little more generous with the quantity in all dishes. I did enjoy the tomato salad, and I appreciated the variety of bread selections presented to the customer. Overall, there is a happy presence here and I would for sure return if I do come back to Lisbon again. I am not so sure about the other restaurant a few hundred yards away, but if it is half as good as this one then I would recommend there as well.

Lovely location right on the water. Breathtaking views at sunset. Amazing sea bass. Friendly staff.

This place has a lot of seafood options but the service is horrible! The market is busy as it is, but the cashier would dance around, talk, etc. when there would be at least 10-20 people in line! When we actually got to the very front, she would not take our order and chatted with the workers that we got fed up and left. This was our second time in line, the first time I did get the octopus salad (just okay) and we got the clams as well. What a way to lose business by hiring people who don't care about customer service!

I have to write a mixed feeling of this place... chef, you got more stars.... was almost going to rate on the 2 stars, but would have not been honest with you. Your grilled sardines and lubina were quite good.... a little on the undercooked side, but fish and I can live there.... would have wanted to have some choice on the sides.... The negative about this, you have a gentleman taking orders, please put him elsewhere!!! He has NO clue on how to treat people... disrespectful, moody, not smiling.... well, almost left (if it were that my wife had found a nearby space and waiting for her lubina) I would of!!! Anyways, fix the hurry on serving more orders and change the guy and you will have a great place!

Visited Lisbon over Thanksgiving break with my family and had some of the best food. Monte Mar was one of the best restaurants I have had the pleasure of eating at. One of the best things about this restaurant is the view. Monte Mar is directly on the river, this gives views of the water, boats, the bridge, the Jesus statue, and another beautiful city of Portugal. Another great asset to this restaurant is the walkability. If you are staying in the middle of the city, Monte Mar is a close walk with beautiful views. As a family that does not speak Portuguese, the serves were very nice and patient when taking our orders. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing and ties in many of Portugals beauty. I had the prosciutto with cheese and olive oil. It was fairly prices and delicious. I recommend going here if looking for places to eat in Portugal!

One good thing about travelling in Portugal during low season is that you don't have fight crowds and line up. We were drawn to Monte Mare for their €25 for two special, but decided on getting the Seafood Mix for 2 and the Octopus Salad. The Octopus Salad was delicious! Just the right amount of marinade and the texture of the octopus meat was perfect, not overly soft where it is mushy but tender. I have braces so was worried it would be tough and chewy or overcooked where it would be mushy, which was not the case. The Seafood mix for 2 came with grilled shrimp, sea bass (fish of the day) and squid. I loved the sea bass and my partner really enjoyed the shrimp heads. I highly recommend this place for dinner. They are pricey but it is because they are smaller restaurant of their main restaurant which is one Michelin stat in Cascais. Which we are hoping to try out before the end of our trip.

This place was yummy! Visited London during the end of November. So there wasn't really a long line and the food came out pretty fast. Got the seafood mix for two and it was a good amount of food. It was delicious. Would definitely get it again. I was really happy we stumbled upon this place and I feel like if you are craving seafood since there is so many options, I would recommend this place. Not sure how it is during busy season but I was happy with my meal!

This place is amazing!! If you can sit by the window you'll have a great view of the water and the bridge. The food was amazing and service was exceptional!

This place inside the market is very busy. So busy that someone else ate here instead. I got only bites of his food and it was quite good. I will remember to come here myself next time.

Clam with full of mud. No quality control!

Table seating was by the front and along one wall with the rest at the bar that dominated the middle of the restaurant. Menu was almost the same with a great selection of seafood ranging from tacos, ceviche appetizers to pasta, fish and shellfish entrees with many Asian flavors. The Peruvian ceviche was very nice with thin slices of fish, radish and red onions. The corn nuts added a nice crunch. It also came with a small bowl of toasted crostini chips. The cuttlefish tacos were delicious.. Big chunks of cuttlefish topped with tomatoes and placed on a small tortilla with a white sauce. We actually ordered just one but comped a pair. Sea bass was the best with its crunchy pan fried skin side topped with nori and the moist fish went perfectly with the barley and miso sauce combination. Even the bok choy was cooked well. The squid ink pasta had a mild sauce but scallops were nicely seared. At the end the owner offered us a shot of ginja to try for our first time. It was sweet but at least lower in alcohol,16%. Another great meal and service even two years later. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting some seafood here in Lisbon.

We did not have any reservations and we're having difficulty being seated at restaurants but our party of 5 was very lucky that there happened to be a cancellation for a larger party. The service was excellent and I really enjoyed the vibe and ambiance. It was a very modern ambiance with some nods to the seafood theme of the restaurant. Our server was so fun and had great recommendations. For the small plates, we shared the tuna, scallop, burrata shrimp, mixed ceviche! We were told the mixed ceviche was the most popular. It was one of the most unique and favorite dishes and had sweet potato in it (such a great twist!). All the dishes were great but I also really enjoyed the combination of flavors and textures in the shrimp burrata and tuna dish. For big plates, we had the octopus and the golden rice. Both were very unique dishes. I loved how rich and creamy the risotto was in the golden rice and enjoyed the crunch of the fried chickpeas with the octopus dish. The wine selection was also great! We had three different bottles from varying Portugal regions. Definitely would return in a future visit!

When you find Estrela Da Bica, it is on a side street right off of the steep street with the trolley that is famous. There was a small open door with a sign asking us to wait outside to be seated (so as not to crowd the restaurant). Make sure to follow these instructions, as my family and I watched some other unaware tourists walk straight in, grab a menu, and promptly get asked to go wait outside. After a minute or two, we were seated by one of the staff (possibly the owner?). The staff was all women, and they seemed very proud of their restaurant. The decor was quirky and very homey, with various mismatched tables and chairs. We were informed that the food is all meant to be shareable plates, and we started off by just getting some sourdough bread with dips. There were multiple different kinds of bread and the dips kept them interesting, one being a fish spread. One of the appetizers caught my eye instantly, the roasted pork belly, banana mash, and pico de gallo. I usually like banana flavors mixed with savory (I've tried weird combinations like a peanut butter banana hamburger before) so I knew I had to try this. The outside of the pork belly was perfectly crunchy while the inside was tender. As I expected (but I would guess most people wouldn't), the banana mash complimented the rich savory flavors of the pork belly. For the mains, we ordered the pink marlin tataki with pineapple chutney, potato and rosemary sourdough pizzeta, roasted Hokkaido with butternut mash, dried nuts sand, and house kimchi, the confit codfish cheeks with poached egg and crispy chips, and the pork cheek ravioli with mustard sauce and buckwheat popcorn. They were all intriguing flavor combinations that I would never have thought of in my life!! What stood out to me was the confit codfish cheeks with poached egg and the crispy potato chips. We had tried other codfish dishes around Lisboa and had noticed that it was the most common fish there. But this combination was luscious, with the soft egg coating the fish and the chips adding a nice crunch to every bite. It was like a fish carbonara in a way with the poached egg providing a sauce. This was the standout dish to me, representing what Lisboa is all about while not being afraid to take risks. All of the other dishes were interesting too, and each left me with new ideas of combinations that I would have never thought of. After the dinner was so impressive, we were enticed by the dessert. We got the chocolate mousse and basque cheesecake with guava jam. These were Like I said, the staff seemed proud of their establishment and rightfully so. Estrella da Bica may be a small, simple, establishment, but they are not afraid to push the boundaries of gastronomy. This was the kind of restaurant that flies under the radar, but I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon it.
